Just had an IRA account post some longterm and shorterm capital gains and dividend distribution to the account. This is usually the big payout for the year, and December they payout the remaining three months. Returned 10.39% on the balance total. This fund also posted dividend distribution in April and July of this year and will post more capital gains in December to finish the year. Stock price is still above the January 1st price so a good win for us. We had only taken out a few thousand over the RMD so we should close with a higher total fund value than we started the year with unless we have a large stock market correction. This is not a high flying fund more of the middle of the road type fund plodding along........ Now if my other IRA and the wife's IRA pays out similar to this, we are looking at a great return on total dollar value as we pulled more out than the required minimum withdrawl. One of the funds pretty much mirrors the fund I mentioned here, so hopefully, despite inflation, we come out well ahead this year. Now is the time for everyone to start checking in on your fund porfolio so you do not wind up with some December regret for this year's tax bill

Fidelity Balanced Fund just paid out their quarterly dividend and capital gains. I was surprised by how much it was. More coming in December. I may have to move some of my funds around.

I am stoked on how much my Vanguard fund might payout this year, They pay dividends on the quarter, but the long and shorterm gains in late December. It ussually parrots the fund that just paid in October. I believe many people not paying attention with their various funds might get hit with a big win and if not in a IRA ACCOUNT will get hit with a big tax bill. Of course if the market tanks in October and November the gains will fall due to some losses in fund stockprice sales til the end of the year.

Many of the mutual funds do not post potential dividend and short and longterm gains for year end until late November or December on their websites. Some investers might want to check with their fund companies at this time and might tweak what fund they are in to a better fund with better yearly result for the next year.

The (first-world) problem I'll have when I exchange funds is I'll have to pay capital gains tax on my profit. I have to keep my income low enough so that I stay in the 0% long-term bracket. I've already done an IRA conversion and am hoping to do another this year, so have to consider that, too.

Oh my gosh. I urge everyone to check your various stock mutual fund accounts and check out their payouts they will put in your accounts the next couple of weeks.

Last year, cap gain distributions were around $8,000. This year, the estimates at their lowest range will be over $19,000. I am thinking I will need to pay in some big tax estimates to the IRA and GA.
Hope I can hang on to the cash after I pay the tax and nothing else happens that will take it away from me. I need to beef up my cash cushion.

Iif you are retired and have minimum withdrawl requirements, it is possible your required minimum withdrawl number will increase over last year, and increase your federal and state income tax numbers next year payable in 2023 but like they say, this is a first world problem

I have to say, with the last couple of year's payouts I no longer consider myself a very good individual stock picker. Our stock portfolio has shown some growth, and increased dividend payouts but nothing like the mutual funds.
I know nothing!

Value Buy,
That will be the cap gain distributions from our joint taxable account. I did not include our IRA's. I did go do a rough guesstimate of our taxes for 2021 based on new cap gain payouts. I will be making larger tax estimates in the fourth quarter. Then, if I am wrong, at least I am covered, but don't think I will be wrong.

I misread your post, as you mentioned the IRA and I thought you felt you had to pay income tax on this year's gains.

I am tired.
