That was the title of a science fair project 14 yo Nathan Zohner did in 1997. He got 43 of 50 9th graders to vote in favor of banning a chemical also known as “water” by presenting facts about water using its chemical name, dihydrogen monoxide. Reading about it, I suspect that today, in 2021, many adults would have come to the same conclusion the majority of the 9th graders did. I saw a post about this on FB, with the caption that this helps explains some of the things going on now. Frankly, the more I think about it, the scarier it is. I read something like this quite a while ago. Some guy was a 'professional' anti everything and someone placed a petition in front of him with the water chemical name. He signed the petition and then they told him what he signed. All of this was on video. Classic case of 'foot in mouth' disease. Three thumbs up to those kids ............

Not surprised a lot of us apparently don't remember that our numbers are called "Arabic numerals". Personally I consider it a trival fact of no real world importance. YMMV. And without details in regards to the asking process, I don't have an emotional reaction to people saying they shouldn't be taught.

The more interesting one I thought was when people were asked if we should bomb Agribah. You'd think more people would have picked up on that one because it's Disney.

I rarely remember place names in most movies, so I would not have remembered it was a Disney place name.

Just read this on the Mr Money Mustache forum: Had to stop reading when I got to fascist agenda and the author did not seem to realize it applied to Trump conservatives more than anyone else in American politics. Trump set the conservative idiots on this path, not the left. You could choose to feel good about getting the vaccine because you love your children and the people around you. It really shouldn't be about anything more than that. Making it political is a choice, a bad one. Trump wanted you to die for his "beautiful" economy. Your choice, your problem. But this is a problem of people who insist on seeing life through a right/left lens. Perhaps at another time you can explain to us why Trump tried to get the vaccine to happen before the election. Was he planning a yuge rightwing conspiracy to kill off all the conservatives? ETA: I realize the person who wrote this is not on this board, so just consider this an anonymous note to whoever wrote it and whoever is silly enough to believe that.

They started by saying normal bad things about chemical, and then they expanded it and said it was in every single food, but was also in yoga mats - can you believe we are eating yoga mats? And I was like "every single food?? It must be okay if it is in every single food."

I bumped into Zohner's experiment a couple of weeks ago.
Not sure if it was in an article on why so many people believe some crazy stuff they see/hear about on social media/the News about getting the Covid19 vaccine. It might have been a NYtimes opinion piece.
Or maybe it was when I went down a rabbit hole trying to determine if my oddly tasting DT Coke was ok to drink (the cans had been in the heat in the office for 3 weeks - so even through the best by date was still 2 weeks into the future the artificial sweetener had started to take on that nasty old sock/lighter fluid/weirdly bitter taste. ) I determined it wouldn't kill me and that it wasn't so far gone as to be undrinkable - so I drank it. (and hey! I'm still here two weeks later!).
Oddly the artificial sweetener mis information had cross over to the Covid19 vaccine misinformation.
Which all leads back to my amazement when someone won't get vaccinated but probably will take all sorts of over the counter vitamins in astronomical amounts or "health aids" or "cleanses" or products to "magically" get rid of wrinkles or grow hair or whatever... but get really concerned about a vaccination that might actually save their life. Maybe it was the needle/injection that put them off... but then there's botox shots and who knows what else.
