Going to run against Gov Abbott of Texas. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/beto-plans-texas-comeback-in-governor-s-race-axios/ar-AAOC4IeThis will be interesting. Texas is a hard hard red state, usually, but Abbot has promoted some unpopular laws - lack of Covid laws, but producing an extremely restrictive abortion law as well as a very restrictive voting rights law. I guess we get to see what percentage of Texans are very very conservative vs which GOPers are annoyed enough to vote for a dem.

Even deeply red states are 53/47. Then turn a couple hundred thousand and register (or turn out) and extra couple hundred thousand, and the state turns. You don't even need to get Republicans to vote for the D. Just get them stay home, or vote third party.

Why do I still think Beto is a bit of a green lightweight?

Beto has some things to overcome to beat Abbot...like saying that he was "going to take guns"...of course he specified which guns, but that likely won't get pointed out in opposing adverts.

Honestly, I think Beto is a dud. Last time he ran, I thought he was disappointingly vague.

I can't predict conservatives, but Beto should run on two things - first he will fix the electric grid, and second, he will do something about Covid. The electric grid alone should be a winner - so many people without power for so long. Just keep bringing that up and make it Abbott's fault. Run all the state democrats on the same thing and see if you can get some traction. Once you turn the state blue you can overturn the heartbeat bill.

Honestly, I think Beto is a dud. Last time he ran, I thought he was disappointingly vague. I kind of agree - he seems to run on this image of a young JFK idealist type, rather than having a concrete platform to run on. However, he does seem to get an enthusiastic following, if he can just put our a reasonable agenda that would appeal to the moderates, I think he has a chance.

Two more words....Molly Ivins.🥀 I saw a great documentary about her, can’t remember which streaming service it was on. Such a wonderful degree of snark. PBS had a one woman play about Anne Richards not that long ago, too. Two great broads.
