Oregon man shoots self in groin after showing off gun in grocery checkoutLINCOLN CITY, Ore. (KATU) – A man is in a Portland-area hospital after police say he shot himself in the groin area with a handgun Sunday while in a grocery checkout line. Officers were called out at about 7:30 p.m. on reports of a gunshot injury at McKay’s Market on Highway 101 in Lincoln City. They arrived to find 29-year-old Nicholas Ellingford had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his groin area and leg. He was taken to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital before being immediately flown to Emanuel Hospital in Portland in a LifeFlight helicopter. Initial reports state Ellingford was waiting in a checkout line when he pulled a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol from his waistband to show a friend. As he was putting the gun back in the front of his pants near the zipper, he accidentally pulled the trigger, police say. A bullet went through his groin area and out the lower thigh of his leg, “narrowly missing his femoral artery,” according to the Lincoln City Police Department. No word on his current condition. “No one else was injured in this incident, however a criminal investigation is ongoing, as Ellingford did not have a concealed handgun license and his act was found to be reckless since it placed several people in danger,” said Sergeant Jeffrey Winn. I'm willing to bet the guy never went to a gun safety class. At least he only hurt himself with his foolishness. Alas that's not always the case.

This is why Andy made Barney keep his bullet in his pocket.

I think there are more stupid people with guns stories than there are good people with gun stories. A couple was killed over a parking spot and I believe a 5 year old shot and killed his Mom recently. At least this one so far has only inflicted his stupidity on himself.

Yep, this is why we need some training, and since he didn't have a CPL, it was only a matter of time before things went bad...

- how many jokes and puns can we make -
I bet he is a lot less dickish now that he has shot himself.
Someone take his gun away - you have to have balls to own a gun.
Some men are so triggered by their own penis
He just zipped right into manhood, didn't he!

the myth of Gunsmoke is just that.
as a civilian, you are far more likely to die if you engage someone with a gun than you are to kill the criminal. FAR MORE.

Well, I've never had any formal gun training, but I have COMMON SENSE! First, I wouldn't be having a gun stuck down my pants...too many things can go wrong and it can fall out too! That was the first dumb move...second, wasn't there a safety on that gun?
And just for the record...I do have a gun licensee in Ga., but not a CC one any more. We have open carry here, so don't really need that now. I used to have a CC.
