I live about 3 hours from Nashville and have been there many times since I was a child. The trips when I was a child was because my cousin was a majorette at TSU, and we went to a lot of the home games and especially to the homecomings. My memories from that time had me thinking that Nashville is a raggedy, ugly city. As an adult, I understand that those memories are likely due to the area surrounding TSU at the time, and I understand that the city has had explosive growth over the last decade or so. Even with that in mind, I’ve been there several times over the last decade or so, and I’m still not impressed lol. I’ve been there a few years ago for a seminar for my side gig, and they paid for us to stay at the Lowe’s hotel there. The hotel itself was pretty nice, but I still was not impressed with the city. As a visitor, I can’t think of anything I’d really advise as a must see. They have a strip similar to the one I’m more familiar with where I live. But the strip there is focused on country music vs the one here that’s more focused on the blues…… and R&B or Rock, to a lesser extent. If you enjoy country music, go downtown to the strip. OpryLand and the associated mall are pretty popular as a tourist attraction, but I’ve never been there myself. As an adult, I’ve only been to Nashville as a quick getaway, aside from the seminar I attended a few years ago. The seminar, the people in charge arranged to rent out a place on the strip, just for us, where “dueling pianos and musicians” were the entertainment. A nice gesture, but “yawn”. Mister and I celebrated his 40th birthday in Nashville, because he was there at the time for a class for his job. I found a cigar bar to take him to….. he enjoys cigars and after that night, that cigar bar has been the standard we judge any we’ve been to since by. I’d reserved a table at a bar/lounge downtown afterwards, where the performer ended up being just ok. I still refer to the performer that night as Whitey McNighty, when we talk about that night….. he had rave reviews, which is why I made the reservations, and he was a white man with a white beard, dressed in an all white suit, singing the blues. But we weren’t really impressed and I honestly don’t even remember his real name, even though I want to believe something about his stage name (which I don’t remember) helped me come up with my own name for him. Regardless, he’s Whitey McNighty in my mind. Imma just hush on that now, because I feel like I might already sound like a racist for being honest. If you’re willing to drive a few hours west of Nashville, I can give you lots of advice on where to go and where to avoid. You’ll also literally pass my house on the way to Memphis coming from Nashville, so I’ll also invite you to stop by and be willing to accompany you while you explore the area.

That made me think of Leon Russell for some reason.... he's more of a "Rocker" than a blues singer but... But it was weird that the radio was playing a Muddy Waters song ( Champagne and Reefer) as I was reading your post. Not really adding anything to this conversation and not a comment on Pink Cashmere's post... just was experiencing one of those weird "coincidence" things and thought I'd share.

I went to Nashville in 2019 with my aunt and uncle. We had a great time. I'd love to go back but I can't do it. I know I'm vaccinated but thinking of the wall to wall people in the bars, I just can't.
If you are a fan of country music we toured the Ryman and the Hall of Fame. I would love to see a concert at the Ryman.
We went in many of the bars on Broadway. Most of them are multiple floors and each floor had different music. There was an excellent pizza spot a little off Broadway but I can't remember the name.
Puckett's had an amazing breakfast and I don't care much about breakfast since I can't eat eggs.
My aunt went with her girls last month and did it differently. They had a wine tasting they enjoyed. I can get the name if you are interested.

I have had a similar experience as another poster. Downtown Nashville is a redneck event on the weekends. Lots of bachelor/bachelorette parties and groups of drunk people. The problem I have with Nashville is all the people who work the music and bars who are being paid little or nothing. I was last there in 2014. The waitstaff was paid minimum wage of probably $2.50 per hour. The musical talent was playing for free hoping for exposure and passing around the tip jar. The downtown bars are not nice. I remember paying $10 for a mixed drink in a plastic cup while I sat on a stool with a duct tape upholstery job at a plywood table. Not my cup of tea. Yes it is fun to hear different musicians, but not fun to see the social costs that come with people being taken advantage of. Nashville has a large homeless population. I have seen more than one person sleeping on the street downtown and many more begging for spare change. DH and I were approached by someone wanting money who was very aggressive and may have been violent had DH not been 100 pounds bigger than that person.
Sorry I don't have any recommendations, my rant is over. I did like the historical Union Station downtown.

I saw Paul McCartney in Nashville several years ago now. The only thing worth seeing is the Ryman. I would like to go to a concert at the Ryman but that becomes a longer trip than I want to do to for just a concert, having been there before. We did walk down to the riverfront and it was nice there.
Otherwise it's all Rednecks bars. I don't care if I never go there again.

Seeing posters talking about redneck bars in Nashville makes me wonder what a person would expect in Nashville for the most part. Nashville is not world reknown for it's heavy metal music bars and world class museums (they did have a nice riverboat cruise on the river)

If you’re a fan of beer, the Satellite bar in downtown Nashville has over 100 different types of beers, and has an interesting (not necessarily redneck) vibe. It’s next door to the hockey stadium.
And yes, Value Buy is right, Nashville is known for country music, and it’s where any wanna be country musicians migrate to try to get noticed in one of the music venue bars in downtown Nashville, so that’s primarily what you’ll find. TN is known for BBQ, though, and trip advisor can probably direct you to a good one. If you’re interested in staying at a lavish hotel, the Gaylord Opryland Hotel is near downtown and has giant conservatory domes over different hotel areas - a Delta area with a river running through it (you can take a boat ride on it), a jungly garden area, and one surrounding a giant waterfall (cascades) - they also have a water park on one side. Pricey but fun.
I’m not a big country music fan so I’m not big on hanging out in downtown Nashville, but if you’re a history buff, the Stones River Battlefield and the Battle of Franklin (both Civil War battles) took place close by. Franklin used to be a quaint small down south of Nashville but in the last 30 years has mushroomed into a wealthy suburb with McMansions and strip malls but the original downtown with it’s courthouse and historical Victorian houses and antique shops still remain.

We walk Broadway Street, hear a band we think we'd enjoy and duck in to listen while enjoying a drink.
