When we last had the windshield replaced on the Santa Fe they did not install it correctly. There is also something going on with the brakes/rotors/calipers -something is warped? But brakes are brand new. Napa said they will replace one time. Glass company is repairing roof, someone hit the rear bumper/tail light in a parking lot and took off too, so DH is having it all fixed up, then he plans to the car by selling it to a dealership. We put a deposit on a Rav4 Prime that is supposed to be available in late September. Until then we will survive with an old explorer/the Mustang and DH’s Nissan Frontier.
I am second guessing myself-wondering if I should buy a Nissan Leaf since they are such an incredible deal RN. Not AWD though, and that is on my list of must have features.

I think the Leaf is an interesting car. With the heavy battery perhaps AWD is less necessary. IDK. This winter I got to witness first hand the power of a big ass heavy truck powering its way through snow. Physics matters in snow. FWD small cars tend to great as do big ass trucks with significant weight to crush and power through snow in their path.
I have AWD on my car, but without enough height its limited in how much snow it will plow through. With winter tires it can take on 5 to 6 inches of fresh snow. With all season tires, I am reluctant and worried in anything over 3 to 4 inches of snow. My winter tires also were on slightly smaller wheels to make it easier to get through.

And are choosing to do so for the vehicle characteristics and preferred usage. Like you shared, if you use a Jeep to pull people out and stuff, it can be done, and sometimes there are repair costs that reflect that. If you drive a 3 as intended, its more expensive to upkeep compared to driving it like a Buick/luxury vehicle.

I would wait. I got a really good trade in value for my car in December because they had almost no used vehicles on the lot. I know what they sold it for and they got a premium price for it. A year from now might be a completely different story.

The standard advice from Jeepers IRT deciding what mods your Jeep needs to go off roading, is to take it out as is (even stock) and if you break anything, you know what you need to beef up for the kind of off-roading you want to do. Sounded crazy to me the first time I read it, but I’ve since seen it repeatedly enough in different places to believe they mean it lol. FTR, it’s also standard advice to never go off-roading alone. When the local group plans an official trip, they take a large trailer filled with random parts that club members have donated as they upgraded parts on their Jeeps. I was assured that if I went on one of the trips, if something broke on my Jeep, unless I’d set it on fire or driven it off a cliff, there was a good chance someone would be able to fix it well enough for me to get it back home. And if not, somebody would make room on one of their trailers to bring it back for me. How awesome is that kind of community? Thats why LEGOs. Even I can see that they’re easy to take apart, not just the tops and doors. And apparently not too difficult to work on, since many owners do all of the maintenance, upgrades and repairs themselves if they aren’t under warranty. For pizza and beer, other Jeepers will even happily come help, and call it a wrenching party. Mister fixed the 4WD on mine himself, with a part that cost less than $10. It would go into 4WD but you couldn’t get it back out. Fortunately he fixed it before we got all that snow. One of my favorite Jeeper sayings…. You can go fast, I can go anywhere. Apologies for going off-topic and on a tangent about Jeeps.

I’ve had 2 Jeeps. They were fantastic in the snow. Unfortunately they drove like a refrigerator box.
I also had a Jetta. Then I got pregnant. It did not fit a car seat abs my 150 pound dog. I traded it for a minivan. I literally cried at the dealership when I left the Jetta there.
After the first minivan which was a dodge, I bought a VW van. That thing was a lemon. So many problems. I traded it and took a $9000 loss because it was so bad. I will never buy a other VW out of principle.

The first Explorer my XH and I got had many electronic issues. Luckily they got fixed but I can still remember crawling up the Garden State Parkway at 25mph with the accelerator to the floor. It was in a high traffic five or six lane across area so very not fun and scary. I was thankful no one hit me and left me stranded, but unlike XH, I was not thinking lets get another Ford. I remember your Tiguan stories and sometimes think of them when I see one drive by. (It was a Tiguan, right?)

But day later I knew it was the right thing to do. Went from 280zx to 300zx but the 280 was my first sports car and I loved it,

I did not remember that name.

I bought a Rav4 Prime in April. So far, so good! Fast with the 300+ hp, and unheard of fuel economy. Loving it! Cost is $31,500 after tax incentives.

Drove a 2021 Hyundai Pallisade Limited this past weekend. That thing was sweet with so many bells and whistles (seat extender to provide more support under the knees, bird's eye view of the car, cameras that popped up to show you the curb when your turn signal was on, rear seat intercom system, safe exit warning that locked the rear doors if it sensed another car was too close, etc.).
$49k! Geez Louise. I didn't make more than $49k until 5 years ago.
Needless to say, I did not buy it. I can't see spending that much money on a car, let alone a Hyundai. I feel like I should be getting a luxury car at that price!

schildi did you get an XSE for that price? It's a SE with the sunroof / weather package. Bought at MSRP minus $10k in tax incentives.
