Women will NOT go quietly into submission & let others take away their control.

And before anyone flips their shit over the subject at hand, I posted this to focus on the young lady & how she handled the situation, the topic, herself & her courage in delivering her speech. Pulling the real speech from her bra was just the cherry on top of a bad ass woman move. She lives in Texas, is directly affected by the new Texas law & knew she couldn't remain silent. She also knew she had the perfect platform to use & she did. She's got a bright future ahead of her IMO. She's a strong & brave young lady who faced it all head on and basically said "what are you gonna do about it?"

Jumping to about 5:00 or so gets you to how this all effects her and her fellow female students (and I guess male students although I doubt it makes much difference to them it's business as usual for them it doesn't change their life plans much) and why it applies to the "future" that commencements usually celebrate. It's kind of telling that even though I graduated HS in 1982 - it's still true that as female I don't have the same rights as a man.

I am quite surprised school authorities and disagreeing parents didn't tackle her down and drag her off the stage.
Good for her for standing her ground.

Admissions Office University of Texas-Austn Austin, Tx
Dear Ms Smith,
We have received notification from your high school that they would be withholding your diploma due to inappropriate conduct.
This letter is to inform you that we are now even more excited than before to have you as a student at our university.
We look forward to seeing you on campus this fall.
Sincerely,

An off topic story: I was running an evening high school completion classroom. Not really teaching since it was all self contained canned curriculum. We were having a discussion during a break and a student made a comment that having the diploma or even actually graduating didn't matter. He said his resume listed he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in the year he woulda/shoulda graduated and it was never questioned. I did remind him, "Yet after a full day working as a laborer for a moving company you show up 4 nights a week for 4 hours to do work to get those last couple credits you need to officially graduate." He blushed, looked at the floor and muttered something. I loved that kid.
