Some years its been pretty cold at Christmas. Others not so much. The cold years, my step brother puts drinks outside on the porch stoop off his kitchen. Food has gone inside cars.

We have one side-by-side fridge and I hate it. It will get replaced at some point with a top freezer, no ice maker, no frills fridge. The new range we bought? Yeah, give me all the stuff I want. But for a fridge I just want something energy efficient that will keep cold foods cold and frozen foods frozen. The old fridge will either get put out for scrappers or I'll pay the delivery people to haul it away. We are not a multi-fridge home.

Many of us from snow country and who lived through the dark ages remember hauling stuff to the garage or screened porch to keep things cold during the holidays. We pretty much had all the cold storage space we wanted. I have a table on my deck I can use for cold storage. I usually put drinks out there. Food will be consumed by the dog. Any food unsupervised outside is fair game.

My coworkers were talking about “porch drinks” the other day. Since I grew up in FL I had no clue. When I was a young woman, I had a 197? something Chevy Impala. Huge chrome bumper on the front. My friend Reb had an identical car, but his had a bungie cord on the front bumper. I asked him what the bungie cord was for. He answered that warm beer was cheaper at the liquor store, so he straps the 12 pack to the front bumper for the trip home and it is deliciously cold by the time he arrives. This works for 4 months of the year on the prairie. I refer to outside the sliding door as "the big frig" after November 1.

I have a “normal” fridge in the kitchen and a huge upright freezer downstairs. I keep all my game meat in the freezer, with over 300-lbs of venison in it when the season ended.
We are quickly working our way through it, especially since I now work from home. It will be empty by October when I will start filling it again.
We also have a smaller, apartment sized fridge downstairs, and my dad has a huge fridge next door (it’s much bigger than he needs, but it was a great deal I couldn’t pass up).

Yes...smaller fridge/freezer in the pantry, mostly for cold drinks, but I also use the freezer section for extra bread, fruit for smoothies, microwave meals, etc. In the event we lose power in a hurricane, this fridge is not powered by the generator, and everything in it would either be moved to the kitchen fridge or remain where it is, unharmed, until the power returned.

Yes. We have a counterdepth French door refrigerator in the kitchen - which was downsized from the full size one prior to the kitchen rebuild. Its only 2 of us, and should be fine, but I still think its too small. But I also probably buy too many groceries sometimes. We also have a minifridge in the basement as part of the bar setup down there, filled with beer. We have a chest freezer that has been converted to a refrigerator that is used to hold the 3 mini kegs that my husband uses when he brews beer, as well as additional cans/bottles of beer that are overflow from downstairs. There is the occasional soda in them, but neither of us really drink soda nor do we drink any mixed drinks with soda. I also have full size upright freezer in the garage. Fortunately, most of these are newer so they aren't such energy hogs as earlier models. Our electric isn't too bad, and I use the freezer to store food that I buy in bulk from Costco/BJ's, which saves us money as well as makes it so i don't need to go to the store as much. Very helpful over the pandemic - especially when the store was bare! I can also stock up on deals - I got a bunch of organic, grass fed beef a few months ago at 50-60% off. We are actually going to have some of the rib-eyes tomorrow. It was nice because they were already vacuumpacked so I didn't even need to vacuum pack it myself.
TBH, we have a couple of dehumidifiers that probably suck just as much if not more electric. We have 2 running in the basement most of the time - one in the well room and one out in the main room where my DH's band equipment is located. I also have one I run in the garage during the summer so my tools don't get so rusty and also sometimes in the winter when we have big snows to help with the garage drying out from the snow my car brings in. That wasn't as much of big deal this year since I pretty much got to avoid driving when there was snow out there.
