I am not understanding the need for this to be airing all afternoon.
*He was in a single vehicle accident this morning *His injuries aren’t life threatening *He had surgery for injuries to his legs
I am sure he will be under observation for any other serious injuries.
I don’t think this warrants Sandy Hook style coverage.
Am I weird for thinking this?

He's a golf icon and the car is trashed. Plus luckily we don't have Trump making headlines every day so I guess the news wants the eyeballs. In other news, a car rolled down 60 feet yesterday somewhere in NY I believe and they were able to rescue the driver.

I was thinking the same thing, Cheesy FL-Vol, and figured that I'm just an insensitive bitch. There are people still in major distress in Texas. There are people sitting in lines waiting for food and water. There are people who will lose their homes waiting for congress to act and get them some relief. There are people dying of Covid. There are still children in detention centers wanting to be reunited with their parents (whom they'll probably never see again). There are people starving all over the world while wars rage around them. There are Qanon crackpots out there just waiting for their next opportunity (March 4). Like Opti said, the news needs the eyeballs since trump is yesterday's news.

You know the old news saying, "if it bleeds, it leads"? And, since he's well-known...

I am with you both - It is really stupid - hours of showing how they are trying to retrieve a car by the side of the road.
One of the many things that is pissing me off today - I watched only 2 minutes today afternoon and was mad. My DH said its been going on since today morning - he has it as background noise.

I only just heard about it around 4(Eastern), when I got a push notification from CBS Sports. I'm already annoyed by the level of coverage. I wish him well, but he's not a vital cog in the operation of the country. this is overkill.

Like Opti said, the news needs the eyeballs since trump is yesterday's news. Luckily I did not see the afternoon news, but Tiger Woods popped up more than once until I changed off a news channel. They did however do a segment on a plumbing company in Texas managing all the calls and the dispatches. Timely ice sheet story since we will have a nice thaw tomorrow. A bit on March 4th, and the one that got me the most, was a female officer showing her chemical burns under her mask that still have not healed since the Jan. 6th Capitol riot. (Those falling ceilings in Texas homes still are freaky. According to the news, one do it yourselfer ended up falling headfirst (from the attic?) and is now in the hospital with a broken hip among other things.)

I did go through a bit of deja vu upon hearing of Wood's car accident.
My mind immediately went back to the late Princess Diana. Prior to going to bed it was announced on TV Princess Diana had been in a car accident in Paris and she had a broken leg and had a few other injuries.
I woke up in the following morning to see and hear Diana had passed away.

It's not new. I remember 72 hours of non stop live coverage when Britney finally snapped.
Then the coverage when David Beckham and Posh spice moved to the states.
Yes there are bigger things but news stations need something to fill all 24 hours and keep people watching.
At least it's not Trump.

When we let news become entertainment, we stopped covering what was important and started covering what people would watch.
This morning, ABC, CBS and CNN were all Tiger. Fox news was critiquing the Covid relief bill. So, you have options.

It's major news if a celebrity breaks wind. And even bigger news if a celebrity tells us how many times a day we should be breaking wind. News at it's best

I just refused to watch any news yesterday. I heard it going on and on in the morning and just turned the TV off.

I'm glad he is still alive but tired of the coverage. It did make me wonder if there will be a bigger push for vehicle makers to make their vehicles less prone to flipping over during accidents. So far in the last 12 months in or near my suburb: my next door neighbor got hit making a turn (at a light - she had right of way) and her SUV rolled over. She had minor injuries. A young woman (and her child in a car seat) died after their car was hit and it flipped and rolled multiple times on a main street (the speed limit is 35 - the driver that hit them was going 45mph. they were going the speed limit). This happened during the day. There's a mini shrine where the car came to rest against a building/business on the main street A young couple died after their car left the road clipped a tree rolled multiple times before going down an embankment and into the shallow river below. It wasn't until the next morning that the accident was discovered... they apparently got out of the car (while it was in the river) and tried to get to shore (the car wasn't damaged enough to eject them from the car) but didn't make it out of the river - they were found in the water one body near shore the other under a bridge down stream. It's winter. I'm guessing they died of hypothermia as they struggled to get out of the water. Facebook showed several other accidents on main streets of rolled over vehicles involved in accidents. Why is it so easy to roll an SUV/car Is there a way to make these vehicles less "rollable"?? Is rolling a "safety" measure does it save lives? Is that why it's so easy?

I will happily listen to people talk about Tiger's accident all day and twice on sunday rather than hear one more word about the unhinged ramblings of The Former Guy. I had been wondering what the news would have to talk about in a post-Trumpian era. I literally can't remember what anyone talked about before Trump and Covid. It would be great if the news was all important adult topics, but if going forward it's a choice between celebs and Marjorie Taylor Greene level fuckwaddery then count me in for some discourse on Britney Spears conservatorship thanks.

I’m thinking relapse on the prescription drug problem. I think that's driving the level of coverage to an extent. People ate up his previous downfall, and then mostly got onboard for his comeback. There's probably a big segment hoping he's taken a fall from grace again. I actually hope it was just a plain old accident, and he recovers quickly.

Perhaps its just a break from the non-stop political/covid coverage that is on 24/7 (or it is here)
Its not a good news story.... but its different.

Possible. Its a road known for its accidents and the grade tends to speed up vehicles of the unaware according to the reports I listened to.

I won't disagree. It was a tournament courtesy car. I drive slower and more careful when it is not my car. Speeding on a road you don't know well, in a vehicle you don't know well is a dumbass combination.
