Sharing good news. I wanted to share my good news that I just got the official notification of my promotion. I'm in academia so there are 2 opportunities to be promoted and I just was approved for the 2nd level. I'm relieved that I don't have to jump through anymore hoops!

| 48% | HSA | $7,600 |

| 37%
|
Rukh O'Rorke [2] Multiyear MM/stocks Goal
$12,183.96 (Start=$11,066.31 / Goal=$20,000) 11/26 paychecks for 2021. Got a small bonus. They accidentally took my entire usual 401k contributions out - had it set at set number for payroll, and just at 7% for any bonus to be sure I got the match. I wasn't sure if the bonus would qualify for match or not, but it did, so that is nice. But payroll did the round number for reg payperiod, so my bonus check got puny! I decided to lean into to and put everything - plus some extra from checking - into savings. 500 into I-bonds, 500 into mm/stocks. Planning to buy 500 worth of divvy stocks as a treat. next extra money, will try to start repaying the house fund a bit. no TGIF for me today, working saturday and sunday.

Haven't yet figured out how to update this, but we found out earlier this week that DS3 has a graduation ceremony in July (a year after he graduated). DS3 and his partner are staying in the same hotel as us for two nights (assuming we can FINALLY go to the UK in late July!). We got an AMAZING deal because it's during the week and not a weekend. So I just treated them to 1 night, from my savings. I sort of assumed that A's mom would treat them to the other night, but apparently not. So I may treat them to the second night too. I SWORE to myself that I wouldn't touch those savings, but I think this is an excellent cause. Hopefully I can replace the money. But if I can't, I can't.

Apparently I haven't posted to this thread in longer than I thought.
Paid $240 for 8 hours of deep cleaning to catch the house up. Now set for $100 every other week. It's made such a big difference in my mood and schedule. Clearly should have done it sooner. Hard to overcome the mental hurdle of spending that much for something I can do myself.
Put down $2200 for new HVAC system. Our basement is too cold in the winter so we don't use it as much as we want. Problem seems to be that our system is too big for the house so it cycles off too soon. Plus it's 16 yrs old. Getting new furnace, AC, and more downstairs registers for $7500 along with humidifier and air purifier. Being installed in a few weeks.
This is step one of a 3 yr plan to create two official bedrooms down there. Next spring bonus will be spent to egress two windows. Then, third year will be building out closets. Will take our house from 3 bedroom, 3 bath to 5/3. This is our forever home but will build equity.
Met with financial planner a couple weeks ago. Will cost $600. We're on track for our goal of retiring at 60. She's working on getting us invested more appropriately. She's also working through what we should be doing with our savings. Choices include - more retirement money for DH; 401k increase could free up AGI room for Roths - taxable investments - college savings (intentionally lower priority for us but she's making the case that we have the money to do it)
Next to do is to hire someone to finish a few smaller home improvements - refinish and stain stairs - this is a bigger job than DH anticipated LOL - finish scraping and paint front door - this has been embarassingly halfway done for over a year - install medicine cabinets in all 3 bathrooms - other small jobs
Azucena $25,406 of $30,000 (85%) as of 6/11/2021
Currently a bit ahead of savings goal but will pull $$ for HVAC and then need to fill back in.

I thought 2020 was such a year of unknowns because of Covid-19...DH was laid off for 4 weeks, I adapted to working every week in a medical office, not seeing family, losing my DAD, etc.etc...
Then we thought this year would be calmer, and it has certainly improved from 2020, but wow, the unknowns are making me crazy! We expected the sale of my company to be completed by May at the latest, now it looks like August. We haven't planned a vacation (part of my angst), we are continuing to stash money for whatever life throws at us, and it just feels like I have been in limbo since December. I have committed to staying for the transfer (final bonus coming) but had they told me it would take this long hell no.
Anyway, savings haven't been a problem because of all this. Azucena is inspiring me to find a financial planner that will only charge $600 to tell me where we stand. I thought fee only planners were well over $2500 for a complete analysis. Will add to my list of things to accomplish once this sale is complete.

Hi Savers! It's about time I join this group, lots of familiar faces from the Racers, where I've been for over 10 years. I looked at the last few pages of posts to see how you track savings, goals, etc. I need to get all my info together and will share soon. I also need goals, I feel like maybe I'm not "where I thought I'd be" because I don't really have goals, at least not SMART goals. When my dad died a few years back, and I realized my disasterous dating life was not looking like marriage would be in the picture, and my financial insecurity prevented me from trying to have kids on my own...my previous goals were disappearing and future goals are hard to define. I've wanted to buy a condo for years but it's freaking hard to come up with down payment money, now I think I have enough but the market is insane. Anyhow, here I am, with some money that I need to probably start investing, and goals/plans that need definition so I can create savings goals for them. I also need to meet with a financial advisor to help me figure this out and hold my hand a little bit. Or a CFP? I don't know how to choose. I don't know that I'm ready for a CFP yet, the fees scare me since I don't have much to invest, but I'm also inspired by the $600 CFP possibility to help me get started.
I did start with the Racers back in 2007 I think, with almost 40K in cc debt and $0 savings aside from about $35K in a 401K account. Today I have about $40K in savings and over $300K in my 401K account, so there has been some progress.
Glad to be here!

Snapdragon Update 07-01-21 - $5000.04 / $5000
Car/House $ 5000.04 / $5000
New Totals $ 5000.04 / $5000
Finished up and now I am seriously thinking about using some and paying down the Kitchen Reno. Not sure if I will or not -- I am still waiting for the IRS and state for money on a few different things. Dithering seems to be my motto right now.
Everyone keep up the hard work!

Sorry, Savers. I have been preoccupied this past month and never got around to doing the smilies.
Grandson is still in the NICU but continues to improve.
I will post my own update and then get to the smilies. I'm pleased to see people's updates and posts.

Our planner is thru Ameriprise if that helps. We had our second more detailed mtg with them last night. They are sending us their suggested investment choices for our work 401k plans - something we had asked for help with. They also gave us their sales pitch and comparisons to what they could put us in at Ameriprise if we moved our old blocks over. I need to review - seems like that will cost 1-2% of assets for them to manage. Not sure it's worth that much, but it wasn't a hard sales pitch since we went in saying we wanted to pay for their advice and not move anything. Their analysis makes it clear that we're on track for our goal - retirement at 60. At 7% return, they're projecting we'll have $4M at 60 and it will continue to grow at our expected withdrawal rate and we'd have $6M left at age 95. They have our current net worth at $950k just like I had calc'd, and they see the $1-3k that we're putting into savings each month and proposed that we split out $1k for into $700 for DD12 and $300 for DD8 into college investments. They have another 1200/m earmarked for Roths even if we have to backdoor some years depending on my bonus. I think we can easily incorporate these changes into our budget. The biggest advice that they gave us was about our healthcare loophole from 60-65 when we don't qualify for medicare and will need to buy from ACA marketplace. They showed current rates for a couple in early 60s are a prem of $1500/m with a deductible of $14k. We can qualify for a subsidy if we can keep income <70k. They said one way to do that is to start putting money into a non-qualifed non-IRA account to give us another withdrawal option to limit our future taxable income. Withdrawals from this account would be taxed at cap gains rate and not income. I need to re-read my notes and ask some more questions to understand it better. But that advice alone was worth $600 as it will save us a ton of money. DH's ostomy supplies are $1500/month so we would hit that 14k deductible each of those 5 yrs.

Azucena $25,406 of $30,000 (85%) as of 6/11/2021 Currently a bit ahead of savings goal but will pull $$ for HVAC and then need to fill back in. Letting our finances be on autopilot as I feel like we have a good handle on the ebb and flow. Blessed that our income allows for this as it's less stressful for me when I don't keep track as closely. Paid $7k for new HVAC system incl AC to make our basement useful in the winter. Also added humidifier and air purifier that we've never lived with before. Looking forward to a toasty, non-dry winter. We cash flowed most of it, so our savings only slipped a little. Really should buckle and pay someone to refinish our stairs as the lingering part of the floor project. Then, ready to look ahead to next home improvement piece to tackle - likely entryway closet unit to hide all of our dumped stuff. Next spring, 3 egressed windows. And then building a new closet to make two true bedrooms in our basement. I like to dream "out loud" on here Oh, almost forgot my most impt update. We're on month 3 of biweekly house cleaning at $100/each. You guys, it's glorious! Why didn't you convince me to do it sooner?! JK, JK, JK. But for real, just as our house starts to get dumpy, my calendar reminder pops up for the 4 of us to pick up the floors, and then the magical cleaning fairy comes in the next day and resets our house for us. Last week, I asked if she could mop the basement floors one trip and then do the showers the next trip. She looked at me like I had 3 heads and said you'd really want your showers cleaned only once a month. I was too embarrassed to tell her that was way more often than they were done prior to us finding her. We'll likely pay for an extra 30 mins once a month to get basement floors = $12.50. That works LOL. Azucena $23,974 of $30,000 (80%) as of 7/9/2021

EF took a hit when we needed to pay for the drilling of our geothermal wells out of pocket (11k). However, the IRS STILL owes us our 2020 refund, which includes the geothermal tax credit, which basically covers all the cost. I have a lot of additional savings not listed here from selling our house, but I'm waiting until we finish some additional items before fully funding the 529 payback items. Furniture, driveway, grading, etc. has been pricey. Also upped my 401k contribution in April after raises went into effect, so I'm on track to beat that goal.

Steph, you may have noticed when I do the smileys my percentage of amount saved to goal is higher than your chart shows. Based on this chart, I get 63.05%, not 54.71%. Current is $26,922.53 divided by the goal of $42,684. Am I doing it wrong? What numbers are you using to get your percent?

movinonup posted in the WIR Racers thread some instructions for adding a column with gridlines to your chart (if you post a chart instead of just a tag line). I've been puzzled on how to do this, and maybe a few of you have, too. I can right-click on a cell in the chart and add a column or row before or after the cell, but the gridlines don't appear on the added column or row. you copy the code for a single cell ([td style="text-align:center;border:1px solid rgb(0, 0, 0);padding:3px;"] and add it just before the tag for the end of a row ([/tr][/b]) on the BBCode tab. This will put the new cell at the end of the row. [/i]

My Excel sheet was taking the average of the Percentage Saved column instead! I fixed it for posts going forward (hopefully!)

Well I got some good news on the Workshare/Unemployment that was going on last year. I finally got some money. I am not going to argue about it with them. There was a ton of crazyness going on about this. But what money came in I am taking half and putting it towards my Kitchen reno later this month.
So I am happy about this - not sure about the dollar amount but I was only on workshare for a few months than was moved back to full time with a deduction in pay. So any money is a improvement/surprise.

Rukh O'Rorke [2] Multiyear MM/stocks Goal
$3,486.78 (Start=$11,066.31 / Goal=$20,000) 15/26 paychecks for 2021. Update for 3 paychecks. Disaster struck, one of the feral kittens in the gargage got tangled up in soccer goal netting, eventually lost his forearm . It was a month of critical care nursing from me and lots of ER vet visits for little guy but eventual amputation was needed. Very pricey all around. He is now in the house, and all siblings as well. Feeding them is another expense, and cat litter! All are now tamed and wonderful affectionate little creatures. If you are in chicagoland and looking for a kitten, let me know! . DD refuses to part with our little patient, however. Only 4-legged kits are available. Unfortunately, with providing 24 hour care, and taking all the kittens in for safety, I think mom got pregnant again, and I think it is too late to get her fixed for this pregnancy. I had hoped to capture her for TNR when we took kits, but during the month of nighttime caregiving was barely able to struggle through, then taking care of 5 kittens, plus my own 2 cats who have feeling about this, wasn't able to get it together. Plan to try to trap her and have her have kittens in the house, see if she is full feral or not, get fixed and keep or TNR. But - since I kidnapped all her kits, trust is low and she doesn't come for food as ofter as before. May be difficult. Have never gotten within 2 feet of her, she is very skittish. I will try....not sure how well this may go. She has a very close relationship with the baby daddy, who is very easily spooked. He would check on the kittens regularly and mom and dad were very sweet. I once put out some nice treats for her and was surprise when she sniffed them and left. She was back in 5 minutes with the dad and let him have the treats. super sweet! I hate to break them up. Will try to catch and TNR daddy too. Again - not sure how far I will get with this program but I will try.

I missed the June update and am catching from my savings contributions for June and July. In June we met the goal for DH's 403b, we are still contributing to that account and plan to max it out.
I mentioned earlier that I was promoted but given the financial situation, I wasn't sure if the institution would have the funds to give me a raise at the same amount as my last promotion. I still don't know what it will be, but the organization just announced they allocated funds for salary increases and merit raises. I'm optimistic that my raise will be close, if not the same as last time but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I have a different boss and she views raises for my position type different than my previous male bosses. Hopefully I'll know by the end of August what to expect.
