Since this was Christmas 2020, our septic tank backed up on Christmas Eve and we had to go old school and pee in buckets.
Silver lining- due to Covid, no big family gathering, it was just me and DH and our buckets.
Saturday, the honey dippers fixed us up. Merry Damn Christmas.

Seems 'honey' is the universal part of the named trucks.

Yup, I've heard of "honey dippers". It's an old term.

Silver lining- due to Covid, no big family gathering, it was just me and DH and our buckets. Saturday, the honey dippers fixed us up. Merry Damn Christmas. Happy, you might have a bigger issue than the septic tank backing up. A typical septic system has two components. A septic tank and a drain field. Waste flows from the house to the septic tank, where solids are broken down. Liquids are discharged from the septic tank to the drain field, where they evaporate or are absorbed by the soil. Since your septic tank has backed up, it makes me suspect that the drain field may be clogged, so that the septic tank can not discharge to the drain field. If my guess is right, pumping the septic tank is a short term fix. In a few months, the septic tank will be full and back up again. Septic tanks should be pumped out on a regular basis, to remove accumulated sludge. For a one person household, once every four years is probably enough. For a family, once a year is probably appropriate. Given your experience, it’s probably worth having the septic system inspected to ensure that it is in good working order.

Nope purely stupidity on our part, we weren’t taking care of it. I’m embarrassed to say how long it has been since it was pumped. If it starts backing up soon we’ll get inspected but I’m fairly sure this was just an example of the dumb ass tax, in the form of peeing in buckets and having to pay a premium for Saturday work. Mea culpa.

So glad we have sewer here. I don't know the first thing about septic tanks, and I don't wanna have to know.

Ours backed up not long after we had moved into a new house when I was in college. My parents were not knowledgeable enough to ask when the septic tank had last been pumped and it was overdue before we moved in. Afterwards, septic pumping was on the calendar every few years.

So glad we have sewer here. I don't know the first thing about septic tanks, and I don't wanna have to know. The one advantage of the septic tank and leach field was that our property was incredibly well fertilized. The grass looked like a putting green, and my dad’s roses and the garden went nuts with production. I think that 24 tomato plants produced a wheelbarrow full of tomatoes every other day. It was crazy. I think by the end of the summer, we had a few hundred quarts of spaghetti sauce, and I don’t know how many of just tomatoes. We gave away tons. I hated that summer, we were canning all the time.

All I can think of right now is Eddie on National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation emptying the RV tank yelling out "the shitters full."

Happy New Year everyone.
Open doors and windows to let the old year out ........ and the new year in.
Just to make sure 2020 actually leaves.

Happy New Year everyone. Open doors and windows to let the old year out ........ and the new year in. Just to make sure 2020 actually leaves. With the windows and doors open, use a leaf blower to ensure the old year is really out of the house.
