I think it would effectively splinter the party. It would force those on the fence, or using the situation to the best of their advantage without being forced to take a position, to take a position.
I think it would be effective to my purposes (a neutered republican party, or at least one forced to separate from its rabid base) if current Republicans have to formally choose sides.... is better worded I think?

I have not read if the two hour sessions will be open to the public nor if individual votes will be released. That could impact things.

Votes will be reported alphabetically so Arizona potentially first state up for challenge. If that challenge is overridden, do they challenge again? Georgia next? If that goes down? Which state puts Biden at 270? Is there a state they would want to challenge after that? Would they?

"I had a chance to speak with Coach Tuberville just moments ago," Gaetz said of the former Auburn University football coach. "He says we are done running plays from the establishment's losing playbook. It is time to stand and fight!" "Meanwhile, the media in their woke-topia and allies in Silicon Valley only grow stronger in their ability to super spread lies and bulls**t," Gaetz continued. "I'm not going back to yesterday's Republican Party. I'm not going back to losing politely, with Mitt Romney. I'm not going back to the Bushes or the Cheneys." "This is Donald Trump's party, and I am a Donald Trump Republican," Gaetz said. www.newsweek.com/rep-matt-gaetz-join-gop-effort-overturn-trump-loss-im-not-going-back-losing-politely-1556245It's going to happen.

It means that there is a war on within the Republican party and Trump is winning. Republicanism = Trumpism...
It appears to mean they are going to force a divide in the party and oust anyone who might have been more traditionally Republican. Honestly, just an escalation of what they have been doing for over a decade now, as anyone not 'with them' is branded the extreme left.

What does the quoted part even mean? My interpretation is the party of Trump will not be losers like the old party of Romney was. They’ll be winners, and if they feel like they’ve been swindled of their win, they’ll take it by force. It’s the end of democracy, if Tuberville and Gaetz are in the majority of the GOP. But McConnell and other GOP leaders are against it. I guess it depends on who wins the soul of the GOP party. thehill.com/homenews/senate/531562-gop-seeks-to-avoid-messy-trump-fight-over-electoral-college

I would love to hear McConnell explaining to the "coach" what it means to be a junior Senator whose first act is to go against the leader of his party in the Senate.

If I were McConnell, and tuberville does this, I would bury him in the least powerful and desirable committees so he learns the facts of life

Gaetz is a functional idiot and has been for awhile. I'm pretty sure he's had some nice anti-woman quotes from the vetting of Kavanaugh to things like women's bodies have ways of shutting that shit down. Since there is no actual proof of wrong-doing just their hurt feelings and surprise people came out in force to vote Trump out, I like the following approach- www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/dem-files-petition-to-disbar-rep-matt-gaetz-over-support-of-trumps-election-lawsuits/ar-BB1c9r1i?ocid=uxbndlbingIn her petition, Keith pointed to Gaetz's support of the failed Texas lawsuit as reason enough for his disbarment. Keith wrote that Gaetz "willingly participated in an act of sedition, and an illegal and immoral effort to disenfranchise millions of American voters."
"Mr. Gaetz brought shame and disrepute on the legal profession and on the state of Florida, and is no longer worthy of the privilege of being called on 'officer of the court,'" Keith added.
Complaints about Gaetz's conduct have been raised before. In August 2019, Gaetz was investigated by the Florida Bar Association because of a tweet Gaetz sent to Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen before his testimony against Trump before the U.S. House Oversight Committee. In a now-deleted tweet to Cohen, Gaetz asked if Cohen's wife would "remain faithful when you're in prison. She's about to learn a lot."
The Florida Bar Association's grievance committee decided that Gaetz's tweet did not violate any professional conduct rules, but stated that Gaetz's "original tweet was unprofessional, reckless, insensitive, and demonstrated poor judgment."
At the time, Gaetz told reporters that his tweet to Cohen was not an example of witness tampering.

Proud Boys' D.C. Plans Scuppered as Hotel Harrington Closes Before Rally
Washington D.C.'s oldest hotel that has become popular with the far-right Proud Boys group says it will close its doors for three days in early January, when thousands of pro-Trump supporters are set to visit the capital for a last-ditch MAGA rally. President donald trump has encouraged "wild" protests in Washington D.C. on January 6, the day Congress is set to certify Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election. But some of his supporters may have lost their hotel reservations after Hotel Harrington, located just a few blocks from the White House, issued a statement on Monday saying it would be closed on January 4, 5 and 6. The hotel's move came after The Washington Post reported that the Proud Boys, a white supremacist group known for inciting violent clashes with opponents at rallies, had made the Harrington their "unofficial headquarters" in the capital. Several hundred Proud Boys stayed at the hotel while in town for a December 12 protest against the election results, according to the Post. Many of them spent that afternoon drinking and chanting in front of the hotel, while other members drank on the outdoor patio of the hotel's bar, Harry's. Complete article here: link

It’s like these republicans haven’t read the constitution, a document they claim to revere Thanks to Billisonboard - I've been going down the rabbit hole of reading and working on understanding it. I know back in 5th grade? 6th grade? I had to take a test on government stuff... but I pretty much just did a "short term memorize the right answers", "fill in the right answers on the test" , and then promptly forget it all. so, yeah, I can spell the word constitution and that's pretty much the most I'm sure of. But not for much longer.

This could all have been avoided if voting machines on which Ivanka holds patents had been used instead of those owned by people like that dead guy, Hugo Chavez

I need to amend my post: This could all have been avoided if voting machines on which Ivanka holds Chinese patents had been used instead of those owned by people like that dead guy, Hugo Chavez.
You remember those Chinese patents that Ivanka was awarded back in the fall of 2018, right?

i am so sick of hearing China blamed for shit. We were watching South Park The Movie last night. If you switch the words from Blame Canada to Blame China you can picture Trump in place of Kyle's mom pretty easily.

He's supposedly been arrested at least 7 times for DWI, but no convictions. When you can live life with no penalties for doing stupid stuff, this is what happens...

Not that it will stick, but I thought that was a thing.

And we wonder why congress is dysfunctional. Elect idiots like this and we get idiocy. If we want better representation, we need to vote for the more responsible candidate, regardless of party. They get away with it because voters do not make them pay the consequences

I recognize that. The last 4 years has shown us how dumb we really are. People elect representatives who believe their voters are stupid, act on that premise, and get rewarded. The voters are pissed off about there station in life, yet re-elect people who actively make it worse. It is incomprehensible

I think it go s along with our rampant anti-intellectualism. We became distrustful of experts, and people have taken advantage of it. The internet has exacerbated it. But how it started I have no idea. We no longer are interested in problem solving and compromise. Until that changes, we will continue our downward trajectory
