My younger son and granddaughter live about 20 minutes away from us
We stayed away for Thanksgiving
If my son is okay with it, I plan on delivering Christmas presents
After I wrap them

Not sure what my husband is planning
His daughter and her 3 kids live on the other side of town...with his ex wife
I dont go there. Not anymore
The ex is toxic and I don't need her in MY life

We will probably do gift exchanges with a few relatives before Christmas, but separately not as a large gathering.
This might actually be the first Christmas where I say I'm going to scale back and actually do.

Hibernating. I'm hibernating for the entire weekend on the couch with the blanket over my head.

We won't be going to mom's house on Xmas eve like we normally would. There will be no annual Nerf gun battle that night. So I'll miss out on my annual black eye from a nerf dart. lol My brothers & kiddo will be highly disappointed that they don't get the honor of being the one to shoot my eye out this year. Of course, with my health gone to hell in a handbasket, I would be a sitting duck target anyway. Can't run away or sneak around corners to ambush someone. I might have finally become to old to play. Hubby, kiddo & I have decided that we're gonna play board games and drinking games on Xmas eve. Gonna make homemade pizzas that night for dinner.
There also won't be any fa-rah-rah rah rah 'ing going out to eat Chinese food on Xmas day either. That's gonna really suck. We have a great group now that all goes out with us. But it's just stupid to go out to eat at a BUFFET on Christmas Day no matter how much fun it is. I will admit that hubby & I broke the rules (our rules) and ate there a few weeks ago before the covid numbers started to climb again. Did like their new buffet rules (must wear gloves & mask while getting food & there's a little Chinese lady to cuss you out if you don't follow the rules) but it's just a bad idea now that the numbers are on the way up again & on a day when the place will be packed. So we're gonna do steaks & crab legs at home that day. Open presents & probably do some more drinking & smoking. Got kiddo a set of virtual reality goggles for Xmas, so we'll have plenty to entertain ourselves with.

I suck at NERF battles
But the other plans sound like a good compromise
Could I please request a light fluffy snowfall on Christmas eve?

Today I should be cooking up a storm as tomorrow is the day I would have my annual holiday brunch for 12 to15 friends. It kicks off the holiday season for us. Instead here I am, sitting on the sofa posting on the boards.
I'm done with 2020

There is a nice group of us within less than an hour away. But we are rule followers and, like it or not, we will hunker down. There will be next year and if one of us will have passed by then it will not be because of Covid!

I have the same plan. Will you sneak your food underneath the blanket? Yes, along with the flashlight. I was pretty good at waiting until mom and dad went to bed to get the flashlight out. I had a book case headboard. If mom knew it was in there, she never let on.

Hubs says at least we won't be in one of those blizzards up there trying to get home. At least that is a positive.
But I will miss grandson for Xmas. So much fun with a little one. I hate not having a tree, even if the outside decorations are pretty. It's not the same but not fighting the cats off.
I bend over to do something and one will jump on my back. Or they try to climb my legs. And the way they tear through the house it just wouldn't make it long. Hubs said shouldn't have gotten them, a lot of trouble. But I don't mind, they are also a lot of fun.
We are pretty isolated anymore, gets old, that's for sure.

It sure is not the same this year flan. But until the last few years our son had lived overseas so it is really nice to at least have him in the states. And until 2015 hubs had worked overseas so it was lonely for DD and I.

You got me at annual Nerf gun battle. Please explain and put in details like what Nerf guns are used and how long battles last. Sounds like a new tradition for after the pandemic ... at least to me.

BTW Steff you aren't too old to play, you just need to plan around your current circumstance. Obviously you need to have way more Nerf armaments than everyone else playing with you...

Silly me. I thought I needed batteries for the new Christmas tree. All I needed to do was connect the adapter to the lights.
Walla! Lights are now on.

You got me at annual Nerf gun battle. Please explain and put in details like what Nerf guns are used and how long battles last. Sounds like a new tradition for after the pandemic ... at least to me. Nerf gun battle originated as water gun battles in Texas. It's just not warm enough in Georgia to have water gun fights in December.
Rules are pretty simple. Guns have to be IDENTICAL. no one can get an edge by having a better gun/faster shooting gun than anyone else. showing up with a high powered gun can get you suspended from play that year. This problem is solved by one Xmas a nerf gun being a gift for everyone who will be participating. Then the guns are left with one person & packed away with the Christmas decorations for the next year. Extra ammo IS encouraged. Everyone playing can buy extra nerf bullets if they want, otherwise, they will get the basic 5-10 that came with the gun. Gun play areas/Gun free zones have to be established & honored (or someone in charge will put the rule breaker in a time out where they can be shot at freely) Establish a ref who isn't playing & will be fair to enforce the rules (this is my mom) She lets us play IN the house because we've managed to actually never break anything. It also helps contain the flying bullets for when you're running around & need to scoop up ammo as you go. All fired ammo is fair game. IE: all the nerf bullets shot at you that you can grab you can use to fire back. No hiding behind closed doors or in the bathroom, not even just to reload. Hiding creates issues with potential for doors being banged on or broken. couch pillows are acceptable as shields. Running from room to room or hiding out behind doors/furniture to ambush someone is legal. Teaming up is allowed with the accepted risk of your teammate turning on you at close range (this is how I end up with a black eye every year) using small children as ammo collectors is allowed if you can convince them to run into the line of fire. Shooting at children is only allowed if children aren't whiny cry babies and can take it.
Nerf gun battles are the final game/activity of the night (Xmas eve for us). After eating, after presents, after anything else your family does. The usually go on for at least an hour or until everyone is just worn out. Someone can quit the game at any point, but must turn in their gun. You can't get hit, quit, whine & the get back in the game. You whine, you out. At the end of the battle, guns are dropped off into a box. Ammo collection is left up to the home owner the battle is waged in. Typically my mom collects spent ammo/dart for days or weeks after Xmas. They will be in the Xmas tree, other decorations, behind couches, all over the floor, & in any rooms that were established as open battle ground. All ammo is added to the box with the guns to be used the next year (but again, yearly extra ammo is encouraged).
Some years a winner is declared, typically it just goes on until we're all huffing & puffing and can't find anymore spent ammo to shoot back with & mom yells "ENOUGH!".

No plans at the moment for Christmas. The usual dinner at a friends appears not to be happening or we are not invited. Whatever. I have a turkey breast in the freezer, and we will have that, maybe as a pot pie this time. DH already got his gift (a new computer) but he needs speakers/headset for sound. I also got him a Yeti mug with a cover, so he will have gifts. If the local park trail is open, we will walk there for a change of pace that morning, then make a nice breakfast.
