The UK National Theatre showed a series of films of their plays during the first lockdown last spring. Since they're in lockdown again, they've just released another play on streaming. It literally opened and closed (because of lockdown) the same night. I urge you to watch this stupendous performance, for free. They are asking for donations (that's why they did this), but viewing is free.
It's available for another 18 hours. Most of their plays are available for a week, but this one literally opened and closed the same night because of lockdown. It will be performed live again next year, so it is only available for 24 hours. ETA: Edited because wrong link.

The nice thing about by internet and cable TV provider is YouTube is one of the apps cable offers. I can watch Death of England:Delroy on my TV. Will watch in a bit but before time is up.
Thanks!

I got 7 minutes in, but its Minion time on NBC. Very British, very London to me, but interesting so far.

It's definitely very London/British. You may not know all the (Jamaican) slang words, but you can figure them out (or google them).
It's a play about the UK version of BLM.
My DH is British. We have been going to the NT for decades on occasional trips to London to see family. The NT is fantastic! But this truly blows it out of the water.
I just wanted to share.

Me and my sis 4 years younger than me love various British TV shows and would like to visit Wimbledon, Oxford University, among other things. I'm jealous about going to the NT. I have been to Broadway though. And like many IT types I'm a huge fan of Monty Python's Circus.

Apparently that play was a HUGE success in terms of donations, so the NT announced yesterday that they have opened their own streaming platform. They are offering pay-per-view/monthly/annual subscriptions. I just bought an annual subscription for my (British) DH for Christmas. I think lynnerself was supposed to go to London and the NT this year, but had to cancel because of Covid. So I thought that she and others might be interested in this "covid friendly" gift. And no, I'm NOT affiliated with the NT, and I don't get a kickback LOL. We're just huge fans, we both do theater, and it's a nice change from Netflix (and about the same price!)

There are a lot of the arts doing things like this. For awhile, Met Opera was streaming their operas through Roku for free, there was a new opera each night. I've not gone online to check to see if it's still happening in awhile, but we were watching an opera in the evenings rather than Netflix. I think that the same streaming service also has been showing ballets by Bolshoi Ballet and I believe Boston Symphony Orchestra has been offering streaming services through their sites. We have season tickets to Seattle Opera, so have been getting offers of streaming events too. Most are individual performances by their artists, not full productions though.

A group of us from the Monday Night Piano Bar are working with the artist to do a full concert with another artist (each artist at their own home) on Zoom so there can be real interaction. It would be twice as long as the Piano Bar and the two artists would sometimes do songs together and sometimes do their own songs.
Sounds like it will happen in January.
If we get 20 people it will be $25 each. I told them I'd pay more than $25 to make it work. There are about a dozen for sure people right now.
