Melania’s Rose Garden renovation debuts to withering reviews on social mediaThe First Lady has traditionally been in charge of any changes in the design of the interior and exterior of the White House that she and her husband currently occupy. Today, Melania Trump got to unveil her renovations of the White House Rose Garden and faced strident outcries after it was revealed that she had trees and other shrubs — planted by then-First Lady Jackie Kennedy when she oversaw the redesign of the garden in 1961 — replaced with a concrete sidewalk. While the newly stripped landscape may make for better camera angles when Melania addresses the Republican convention this week from the Rose garden — as she is reportedly planning on doing despite the ethical prohibition on using federal property in political campaigns — many people on social media reacted negatively to what they considered to be a desecration of the Kennedy legacy. Melania’s Rose Garden renovation debuts to withering reviews on social mediaKeep Melania away from the Lincoln bedroom.

Sorry, I wasn't impressed with the results. It was hastily thrown together. You can still see the edges of the sod on the new portion of the lawn from the aerial view. Didn't like the new sidewalk along the edges either, but at least those 6-8 inch heels of hers won't be sinking into the turf.

Eh...there are much bigger things to complain about. At least it's not gaudy with gold plated statues of Donald and Melania.

Most shrubs and few trees have 60 year lifespans -- so, I'm not too upset that the planting were removed (I suspect many of them have been replaced over the years and that only a few remained that were actually part of the original plantings. I suspect the garden can be returned to it's original design in the future. That said. It is "blah" - but then it's purpose is no longer as a "garden" but as a place to hold outdoor meetings. I'm all about form follows function. So, with that 'purpose' - it's fine. I am sad though. trump and many of his followers seem to be all about NOT changing stuff we have now that represent or pay homage to the past because it gets 'erased' and history gets rewritten and here is his wife - erasing the past. I guess some history just got re-written.

Where did all the color go?
I do like the cleaner look around the columns, but the rest of it is too monochrome.

I'm sure Trump would love it if we didn't remember he cheated on his first two wives.
