I have a blood clotting problem. This time it's in my left leg as a DVT. I'm supposed to wear compression stockings or socks. I'm an incredibly vain person, so I'm trying to find some that are at least somewhat normal looking. Have any of you ever worn them and have either recommendations or brands or sites to avoid?
It's amazing to me how expensive they are. I'd just not wear them, but my husband is mildly demanding that I not die by a preventable stroke.
My first google search brought me here

I have no suggestions...... when I've had to wear them (knee surgeries, pulmonary embolisms) i proudly wear them and get all the sympathy I can accumulate.

They tried to put some of those on me one time in the hospital. I said with neuropathy I would not be able to stand the pain. Sometimes I can't even stand a sheet on my feet.
Those you showed look pretty nice actually. I hope they are comfortable for you, personally, I hope I don't have to as I cannot wear something like that.
How does something tight like that help clots? Guess I can look that up.

I wore a pair for a week (feet to just below my knees) last month due to severe fluid retention. They pushed all the fluid to my knees and thighs- painful. I decided to stop wearing them. My knees are still messed up and they affected my muscles (I am still having problems walking).
I didn't care what they looked like because I couldn't leave my house. Needless to stay I am not a fan of them

UGH! They put these on me after all my surgeries. They lasted on me until I could get home and get them off. These were pretty hideous, they made my legs itch and dried out my skin like crazy.
However, I have seen ads for more attractive compression socks than I received.

I also wear compression socks, especially during the winter. Some I have bought from QVC, and seriously they are so hard to get on I gave up. The ones I like the best are by Dr. Motion. Some are polka dots, strips, all sorts of little ones that don't make you feel like a dork.
If you can't find these Dr. Motion, there is a small boutique in a town called huntsville, AR and the name of the boutique is "The Attic". That's usually where I end up buying them.
I see my Cardio again in January. By then I'll likely have them on because my feet get so cold.

Bombas has compression socks. Since they have a money back guarantee, it is worth a try.
I haven't tried them, but I love my other Bomba socks.

About 10 years ago, I invited a retired priest to live with me because he had been living alone in an apartment but landed in the hospital with a serious case of pneumonia (he was from another diocese but I was on the border so very near him) He wore the compression socks for six months. It became a daily routine that I would help him out of them before his shower and back on afterwards because they were so hard to get on and off for him (He was in upper 70's at the time)

No suggestions, just feel for you. Hope your time wearing them is short. Had to help my dad put them on after both hip surgeries. Pain in the butt to put on. Can’t imagine having to wear them.

I did see those, but I have to have the kind that come all the way above my knee.

However, I have seen ads for more attractive compression socks than I received. When the person at the ortho store (where, on Tuesday, I purchased the first hideous pair) told me I couldn't have lotion on my legs when I put them on, I looked at him in a not very nice manner.

I don't have the fluid retention problem though, so I'm just uncomfortable with it on as opposed to painful.

While I have to have the type that go from my foot to above my knee, this site does have those and the prices are much better than what I've seen.

Drat that you have to have above the knee. I was searching and I wouldn't mind wearing the socks at Crazy Compression either, but they aren't above the knee.

I got nothing but good wishes on finding good one. I'm on blood thinners and we're currently skipping the compression socks, prpobably because my clot is upper thigh area and I assume I'd have to wear tights!

DH wears compression stockings from feet to thighs every day. He has clots in the thigh area and it's just habit for him to wear them. He has thin legs so doesn't have a real problem getting them on. He has been wearing them since his heart attack in 2012 I wear the thin knee elastic sleeve, but turn them around so the compression is on my calves. They keep my legs from hurting so I'm happy with them. Yes, they are expensive but better than having a clot straying. Things happen as we get older ..............

Discountsurgical.com Best prices ever. I use their 'absolute' brand daily. I buy the lighter (meduim)compression ones made for someone who is on their feet all day. They are perfect and look like nice nylons and cost about $9 not on sale. You get a discount for buying several pairs at once too.. If I need heavier socks le for hiking or boots, I just put those over the compression socks. Since you should wear them every day and you should replace them every 4 to 6 months, I figure it's better to wear medium compression so I can get them on and off easily. A high compression, I just wouldn't wear them.

www.brightlifedirect.com/ Not only are they important to prevent clots, they prevent swelling and skin changes, varicose veins, and pain. Chronically swollen legs can lead to an infection called cellulitis, which can been quite serious

I actually love compression socks/hose. They are great for recovery after running. I just order a bunch off Amazon and return the ones that don't fit as well. You can get leggings as well but they are more expensive. For hose, the nude and white ones can be ugly but black pretty much always look nice.

If you have trouble getting them on...there are devices that will assist with that. I have devised my own routine to get mine on when I wear them, but I don't wear them all the time since I don't have foot/ankle swelling every day. The ones I got, I got at Amazon...a variety of colors that match most of my pants & black or white ones for my odd color pants...like the army green pants I have...think I actually wear my gray ones with those pants.
For those of us who only have foot/ankle swelling, there are also the short "sport socks" which are much easier on/off.

Compression socks were suggested to me once. I've purchased a few different pairs, but they were always too hard to get on. I have slept with my leather tennis shoes on, when the swelling got bad in my feet/ankles. It helped a lot!
I didn't know you could get different 'strengths' in them. That's good to know!

I also didn't know they came in different lengths and colors.
Thanks for the info!

I wore compression socks when I had my spider veins treated. You slip over your foot and pull as far as you can . Then slide your hands inside and pull up more.
Mine were fitted and they considered height/weight and they used measuring tape at calf and thigh. They said footless are easier to put on. I bought second pair with feet, and I am sorry-they are very difficult to put on. Luckily I don’t need to wear them anymore.

My sister had melanoma 24 years ago (discovered by the anesthesiologist who was giving her an epidural during the birth of her second child!) and had to have some lymph nodes removed as part of her treatment.
She wears a thigh high compression stocking on her left leg every single day — the thick kind—to help move the fluid in that leg. It’s not the most attractive look, especially in the summer, but it is what it is. She just does it. I think there’s something about not being able to shave that leg, but she’s so fair it’s not an issue.
