Handmaid's Tale is back.
Amazing that the regime that took down the United States of America, and is known for summarily executing anyone who disagrees with them has let this one woman run around for years. Even when they knew where she was, they didn't just kill her. Luckily, there was only one commander that could have possibly tracked her down - and it was her ex. And the only other people that can find her feel like death isn't good enough for her.

Are they fighting back now and making any headway? I thought about starting it back if there is progress and not the same old same old...

I've been sitting on $75 in Hulu gift cards since Christmas waiting for a good time.

Read an article the other day with the author stating Handmaid's Tale should have ended two season's ago. He said the series' writers could stretch the original story so far and more than time to end it.

I think they should have made a big change for this year - she should have made it to Canada, and had to deal legally and physically with Fred & Serena. She and her husband have to deal with reality of what they have been through, and they try to get their girl back without her being in Gilead. Then people will hate it and "she isn't even a handmaid anymore". I am vested in her story, but at some point it gets repetitive. I say this about all TV dramas. If they are successful for a handful of years, they have to either tell a new story, but tell it in the same way so it isn’t too different, or tell the same story, but in a different enough way to be new. If they stray too far away, people will stop watching because they don't want to invest new energy. If they don't mix it up enough, people get bored.

Watched the 3 part series Sasquatch on Hulu. Starts off with a guy investigating his memories from 30 years ago about someone telling him about seeing the bodies of 3 men killed by a Sasquatch, then it turns much darker. A good true crime short series.

Wow. I just watched the third episode of season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale. I was so surprised at the ending. Now I can't wait for the next episode to drop.

I am all caught up on Handmaid's Tale. (Hulu)
I've just started Shadow & Bone and I've ordered the book to better understand what the heck is going on. (Netflix)
I watched Stowaway (Netflix) and thought it was pretty good. I like Anna Kendrick as an actress.
Watched Without Remorse tonight on Amazon Prime. The only thing it has in common with Tom Clancy's book with the same title is the name of a few characters. Otherwise, it's completely different.
I think the only thing I'm watching on cable is Top Chef Portland. (Bravo)

Handmaid's Tale the novel is a journal style, and it ends abruptly when the journal ends, without knowing what happens next, which is basically maybe season 1? (They changed even some things in the novel...). As far as I'm concerend, the novel basically sets up the environment, builds the world. Then the series takes it from there.

lol. That makes sense. I'm not sure why I didn't read it that way from the beginning. My brain lately.
Thats ok. I have a friend who was paperback swapping some of her FIL old books on cd and she doesn't do audiobooks usually, so when a buyer asked here 'who reads this book' she thought he wanted a commentary on who might appreciate it as literature and was a little sarcastic in her reply, and then a bit embarrased when he wrote back, no... like who is the person reading the story out loud on the cds... lol

The narrator makes all the difference! I'm listening to the audiobook of "Slow Horses" and I really don't like the voices given to the characters.

Binged the documentary about the Son of Sam killer and how the killings were most likely done by a group, not a single person.
The researcher was a little sad, I thought, so single minded, and I don’t think I would go as far as he did, but I do think Berkowitz did not act alone.

Jupiter's Legacy was pretty good. Apparently even superheros have troubles with their kids.

I’m not going to click lol This has been my first “show” where I actually binged all the seasons and now watch the episodes as they come out each week. It’s fun to have a little something to look forward to midweek. I can see why people get into particular shows and things now. I have always been that one friend who never knew what episode/series/character everyone was talking about!

The Back to the Future movies are leaving Netflix at the end of the month, so we started watching them with the kids. We normally try to avoid swearing around them, and TT didn't like all the "swears", of which there were surprisingly a lot.

You notice it much more when watching with younger kids. (We try to never swear around the kids, because if we did, they'd quickly follow suit at the most inappropriate times.) At least they don't say the worst cuss words in the movie.

I'm about half way through the "Murder Mountain" documentary about cannabis in Northern California. It's really interesting and makes me think of Shasta. I think she lived close to that area.
I know there's a lot of discussion of how weed is harmless but not one of the people involved look even remotely healthy!

We only watched the first one during quarantine, and I was surprised by the number of curse words too. They were the minor ones, but my 8 yo is sensitive so we didn't watch another the other ones.

I watched the first episode of Season 4 the other night and was like "WTH is going on?" So...now I have to decide if rewatching Season 3 will be good enough or if I'm going to have to binge the whole damn thing to refresh my brain.

I just finished "The Queen's Gambit". I know super late, but it didn't seem like a show I would like. Now I feel like I need to learn Chess and get a new wardrobe. Captivating limited series. Currently watching "Hacks" on HBO Max, "Community" and "Bojack Horseman" on Netflix, and "Falcon and the Winter Soldier" on Disney+.
