I have a 2018 model S and love it. I have a little stock, bought at 750 and about doubled now. Wishing I had bought at 250 but was nervous. Since then company is selling more, built the Shanghai plant and plans for Germany and Austin TX Chinese are buying electric vehilcles in large numbers, like US there’s a credit and China is starting to address pollution. Last time I was in China saw many electric vehicles but this was prior to the shanghai plant opening. Tesla is maybe going on the SP500?? And announced plans to sell batteries to other companies So people love their Teslas, company making positive advances but yeah the stock run up is wild. I follow it and finally bought cause I was annoyed at not being in for the big daily advances. If it crashes I will be annoyed but not financially troubled I’m seeing more Teslas here inNJ . Are you seeing more?

but i felt that way when it was 1/3 of what it is selling for now.
so, here is what i will say:
a person interested in investment value would never in 1000000 years touch this stock.
having said that, i learned something when i was 14, and i have never forgotten it. "don't fight the trend". if it makes you nervous, and you own 100 of it, i would sell a call. a stop loss is another possibility.
it will only take one thing to drive this stock down a LOT. one major event.
so, buyer beware, and watch it. that is my advice.
but this stock has done incredibly well.

Thanks jerseygirl and djAdvocateI bought some on a whim last year (300's) and when it hit 1000, I was thinking of selling - but before I even got a plan together - it was at 1300. I've read a lot about it since posting this, and one of the things that struck is me was a piece that said those who were shorting Tesla and thinking it was a flash in the pan had never driven one. Appreciate the behind the wheel perspective, jerseygirl! I'm still nervous - but I sold half my netflix stock 5 years ago - and that was a mistake. And my reading around gave me a little more confidence in holding this one. I'm not as savvy with the stuff as you are dj, and this is in my retirement acct so I think I couldn't do a call? I could put a stop loss on it, but I worry about it selling on a short dip and then it's up again.... Thoughts to ponder!

"covered calls" are a "level 0" trade. you should be able to do that without any experience from your retirement account.
a level 1 trade would be long calls and puts, where you don't own the underlying. you can do those, but you have to pass a quiz to get permission, and unless you LIE, you would not be able to say you had any experience trading options, which would fail you.
the only way you can GET experience is to do a covered call or put. if you are interested in them, I would read up on them. I haven't done one in 20 years, so I am not your guy. I ONLY did it to get level one permission.
