Tony Timpa was killed in 2016 by a cop kneeling on his back for 14 minutes. He had called 911 because he was off his meds. The link has the video. Not as graphic as the Floyd video but this one captures verbal comments on how little some of these cops care about a human life that is not theirs. www.cbsnews.com/news/tony-timpa-disturbing-video-shows-dallas-officers-joking-as-they-restrain-man-who-died/I hope police reform goes far enough that events like this and Floyd's death stay in the past and have no part of our future. I hope in this opportunity of meaningful reform that bias against the mentally ill is addressed as well.

Yes, another tragedy. I saw a FB post comparing this death with George Floyd's, and wondering where were the nationwide protests over Timpa's death.
And perhaps if there were nationwide protests over Timpa's death, police reforms would have been enacted earlier.

Well we’ve had many deaths that could have been a pivot point before this one, sadly. But maybe Floyd’s death will be the one that changes things.
I remember the whole incident where a guy was handcuffed and thrown in the back of a police van, somehow sustaining a head injury during the trip that ended up being fatal. The police blamed it on a bumpy ride. More like a little back alley beat down probably.

I believe Floyd's death has come at the "right" moment in history. We have an administration in charge that has taken rich white privilege to a whole new level after having had eight years of the first African American president. We have a global pandemic. People are freaking pissed and looking for a way to channel that anger.
And unfortunately in this country we have even farther to go when it comes to the humane treatment of the mentally ill. If Floyd's death does result in dramatic reforms to policing that will benefit everyone else by proxy.

I think the combination of the video of the murder and the one of the lady in Central Park was significant. I think they "boxed" people in. People turned away from the tremendous horror of the murder only to see the CP video. When they turned from it, they were back to the murder and it was too "easy" to see how her phone call could have lead to another killing. Either on its own could be dismissed as a rare isolated incident. Together they couldn't.
