WHY DIDN'T THEIR PARENTS DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE LEGALITIES YEARS AGO.Still asking ....... Do you even know the cost of a green card? My DIL is Japanese. She refuses to become a US citizen due to the US wanting her to give up her Japanese citizenship. Every time her green card needs to be renewed, they have to travel to a federal office where the renewals are done & the last time it cost her $600. They can ONLY be renewed on US soil...not even on a military base in another country. Last time hers had expired while son was stationed in Japan. Customs didn't want to let her into the country until son provided them with a copy of his orders to come back...so she could renew her green card. They renewed it while staying here with us in SW Ga. The nearest place to renew is in Jacksonville, Fl....a 3 hr. drive one way. None of this pertaining to citizenship is easy or cheap & it's often very difficult to travel to the places you need to go to also.

Again, have YOU ever dealt with trying to do this legally? Do YOU know the process? Do YOU have any idea how many thousands of $$ it costs?
Still asking.......
Last I heard the going price for 'coyote' transport was $6K each. And these parents have obviously been in this country illegally for many years. Hopefully they have worked, illegally, used an illegal SS#, and have done nothing to ensure their kids can stay without problems.
Seems like the parents have caused a whole boatload of problems and now want their children to have a free ride.
Sorry ......... somewhere along the way the parents are responsible for this mess.
Had a friend many years ago that became a US citizen because she got tired of getting a green card each year.
I now have friends that are caught up in this mess and they tell family each time they go to store and what time they should be back. Very scary for them, and they have contacted an immigration atty so they are trying to do the right thing.

TD’s green card (which he got in 2002) had an expiration date of 10 years. He had to either renew and pay $600 or $1000 and start the citizenship process. He started in 2007 (the earliest he could possibly apply), and was awarded citizenship in 2010. BTW, you can’t leapfrog over the green card process. You have to be a green card holder for 5 years before starting your application for citizenship.

I think she might mean visa, but then there's still the green card in the middle. would love to know the actual details.

I have been looking into citizenship in dozens of countries, and they have quite similar processes.

Right now it is 9 months (before COVID19) and growing

They changed the rules quite a while ago and, as Walk of the Penguin said, they are now valid for ten years

It's easy enough to get an ITIN. See, the IRS doesn't care what your immigration status is as long as you pay your taxes.

Of course a majority of illegals fly in. When will Trump build a wall around all the airports?

Not everyone (actually most) people who are here illegals don't sneak in. They just don't leave.

If they were DACA, since they are trying to do everything right to get their citizenship, I would assume they are using an ITIN instead of a stolen SSN, correct? Or since these kids are here illegally out of no fault of their own, they must be doing criminal things since they are criminals?

Yes, all you need to do to acquire an ITIN is to have your birth certificate translated, fill out a form and pay a small fee. I don't know how much the fee is now, but it was something like $10 years ago when I would file them. You can do anything just about with the number. It acts just like a SSN. You file taxes, buy things like cars and homes. You can open bank accounts with them. Why bother taking the chance to get caught using a fake SSN when it's so easy to do it legally? It's just one less thing that you can get caught doing when you're trying to fly under the radar. Also, depending on the child's immigration status, they likely have a SSN if they are a resident alien. Only the adults would require the ITIN as they aren't covered by the DACA.

It really isn't. It's also not that hard for the people claiming that illegals are dangerous criminals to learn about them. They for the most part are very law abiding even if they're not citizens. Sure there's a bad apple in every bunch, but that's the case with white American citizens as well.

we should deport American citizens if we want to lower crime rates.

Still not going to answer about the case of a 21 yo who has been here 20 years. What should we do about him?
Let the kids stay ......... and send the illegal parents back to country of origin. Which is my original statement.
