This is honestly a great example of how trump can't see beyond the edge of his nose. He doesn't have the patience to regularly communicate in more than 140 characters. He excels in the limitation with his base. He does himself little favors when he tries to expand upon it. There's no way for him to "put limitations on them" without limiting himself far more than he realizes which would then cut him off from his base. This is also a great example of his business strategy - if someone disagrees with you, scream really loud and threaten legal action in attempt to make them back down, let you have your way, and never fuck with you again. This is what Trump considers being a 'tough' businessman. And maybe it is. But it's a horrible way to be a leader of a country.

Twitter is a private company, right? They can refuse service to anyone the want, as long as they don't discriminate against a protected class, correct? So, they could ban Trump for any reason they wish? Why not ban him for being an asshole, and see the smoke come out his ears. And the benefit is, if he wants to talk to his followers, he needs to have more press conferences.

And likely could get others to join. Though I don't know what the fuck zukerburg was going on about (admittedly just saw headline seemingly rebuking Twitter for putting the fact check).

Zuckerburg is a weanie. He doesn't want to take a position which would anger anybody, just so he can maximize his company's value. He apparently has none of his own. He has never done the right thing without a whole lot of pressure.

Interesting "Order". FCC please do this. FTC and state attorneys general please do that. And Congress please pass some new legislation. I guess he can "order" the Marines not to place recruiting ads on Facebook if they aren't nice to him.

I will admit that I have a lot of problems with understanding all this. I went and looked at the tweets and the fact warning (they are now all over the place and you don't even need an account to see them). Looks to me like trump got to write what he wanted. His tweets were not altered. Twitter did add a link where you can check the facts about mail-in ballots. However, under Citizen United Twitter has freedom of speech . So in effect trump is complaining that he can't go into someone's "home", make a statement and tell his host to shut the Ef up. Not only did he get to say what he wanted, they didn't even kick him out. Their grave misdeed is that they said "you may want to verify this " to others in the same "home".

Trump's late night tweet declaring "...when the looting starts, the shooting starts" has been hidden by Twitter for violating Twitter Rules about glorifying violence. You can read the tweet by clicking on View, but you cannot Like the tweet nor can you Retweet it. I have the feeling Trump won't be happy about Twitter's actions.

He is not going to be happy until he divides the country to the point of a civil war.

We all know how much Trump needs Twitter. I am fairly confident saying that if he actually succeeded in shutting down Twitter about five minutes later he'd die from withdraw symptoms. He's pandering to his base to show what a tough guy he is. He'll back down in a few days and claim he never signed the EO.

All one needs to do is go to Twitter and check this out. Conservative voices are not silenced on Twitter. They are, however, called to account for the things they profess (by other tweeters). Disagreeing with someone is not silencing them. If twitter just revoked his account, what would happen? He would sue, so it would end up in courts and what ever the verdict..could be appealed...taking time and with out tweets how does he communicate. So called press briefings...except for Fox and secondary outlets. if CNN and the other moderate outlets stopped showing his responses once he started on his unsupported attacks...again how does he communicate.....especially with election fast approaching I suggest his bluff be called....

Twitter hasn't backed down. The mayor of Minneapolis hasn't backed down. Legal experts say his executive order does nothing. Trump is the fool here.

But another part of me thinks doing so would help him get re-elected, as his fail-tweets are doing him more harm then good among the swing voters he'll need.

What Donald Trump's Minnesota tweet reveals about his moral compass(CNN)Just before 1 a.m. ET on Friday morning, the President of the United States got on Twitter and decided to offer his thoughts about the ongoing unrest in Minnesota following the release of video footage showing the death of an unarmed black man named George Floyd while he was being taken into custody by police. Tweeted Trump: "I can't stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right. These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won't let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!"
The second part of that tweet -- beginning with "These THUGS" -- was flagged by Twitter for "glorifying violence" and hidden in Trump's feed, the latest move in an ongoing fight between the President and the social media giant. But let's not lose the forest for the trees here. Yes, it's a big deal that Twitter has put a warning label on a tweet from the President. But the MUCH bigger deal is that the President of the United States is, again, abandoning any sort of moral leadership in a moment of national crisis -- choosing instead to inflame and incite rather than instill calm. Look specifically at what Trump tweeted. The use of the word "THUGS" is clearly coded racial language. As John McWhorter, an associate professor of English and comparative literature at Columbia University, told NPR in 2015: "When somebody talks about thugs ruining a place, it is almost impossible today that they are referring to somebody with blond hair. It is a sly way of saying there go those black people ruining things again. And so anybody who wonders whether thug is becoming the new N-word doesn't need to. It's most certainly is."Complete article here: What Donald Trump's Minnesota tweet reveals about his moral compass

I think his tweets have driven away some of the more moderate/logical/normal trump supporters. When he was first elected, it was apparent from social media and comments on national news articles that there were people who voted for him because they felt Clinton was "more of the same" and we needed an outsider to do things differently and "shake things up." I don't agree with them, but I see their point. There was lots of posts about "oh, give him a chance, he's new, he's got to grow into this, he's promised great things, lets back off and let him work." I don't see those anymore. The only people who post in support of him are speaking in sound bites without any logical reasoning behind them, kind of like OC's posts. keep letting him tweet.

I think it's very important for Americans to see Trump's tweets, to see what goes on in his screwed up mind.

I think it's very important for Americans to see Trump's tweets, to see what goes on in his screwed up mind. Agreed. HOWEVER, I personally do not go on twitter. I receive the information from news and social media. Alot of those over 65 aren't likely on twitter (generalization, but I know my parents aren't) trumpsters typically only watch Fox and Fox steers away from his dumb ass shit. So it's only a portion of American's that truly see his screwed up mind and his biggest fan club agrees with him no matter what stupid shit comes out of his mouth

How many on these boards are over 65?...what is our general leanings? I have seen a few in my VERY RED area stop & think & are changing their votes in Nov. due to the lack of response to the CV-19 from this administration...their friends died...it woke them up to look at the truth.

From The Onion (Satire) ‘I Will Not Be Censored,’ Yells Trump Chaining Himself To Phone Displaying Twitter HomepageWASHINGTON—Screaming into a megaphone and threatening to shut down the “biased” social media site once and for all, President Donald Trump reportedly chained himself to a phone displaying Twitter Friday while yelling that he “will not be censored.” “Try as you might, I will not remove these restraints until you take off the chains that you’ve shackled around my God-given freedom of free speech,” said the 45th president of the United States who, after verbally accosting passers by, then proceeded to wrap a thick metal chain around an iPhone, attach a metal lock between the links, and throw away the key. “Today, I dare Jack Dorsey to come down to Twitter HQ, walk out of my phone screen, and face me like a man. Until then, I will place this symbolic duct tape over my mouth, eyes, and nose, and continue to hold Twitter hostage and render it unusable for the entire nation.” At press time, Trump had reportedly urinated into several water bottles, thrown them to the side, and then lit a fire beneath his iPhone while threatening to “burn Twitter and everyone on it to the ground.” link

I'm having a really hard time understanding how fact checking is silencing. It's like he's saying, "I have a right to say whatever I want, consequences be damned, and nobody can stop me." That sounds like a lot of conservative 'activists' if you ask me.

Now trumps biggest toady, Ted Cruz, has joined the fray in defense of his boss, asking Barr to investigate twitter for letting the head Iranian guys to have an account.
I wish Twitter would declare that they are removing every tweet about politics and closing every politician s account until Jan 2021. Nothing but celebs and musicians talking about juice cleanses and their pets.
Let’s see how well trump manages without his cheesy little mouthpiece.

Let the senate investigate, not like they can pass a bill that requires house approval. Executive orders will be challenged in court. Let the Supreme Court hear it, so we can see how far down the rabbit hole they will follow trump

I've said for a long time that trump was his own worst enemy. His wh tries to keep him quiet or explain what he really meant. Can't argue recorded voice, video and twitter. Getting old and losing followers IMO.
