And I just learned via comments on the Mayor's press conference encouraging people to be tested, that the virus is actually contained in the swabs used so as to deliberately show higher rates of infection for some nefarious reason I couldn't quite follow because it written IN ALL CAPS WITH !!!!!!!!!

Wow! So if you didn't have it before, you get it from the swabs, right? Though that would actually make Trump's claim ( that if we didn't test so much, we wouldn't have so many cases) make logical sense.

As I have said before, Texas is screwed. When you start having hundreds of people dying a day, maybe it will finally hit home I doubt it. People in America seem unable to care about anything that doesn't directly affect them or their immediate family. I'd hoped NY would open peoples' minds. Nope. All we heard was how it was fake reports, not that bad, etc... and people seem to believe it. I went to the post office and hardware store yesterday. There were 10 people at the small post office. Not a single mask - including the two people who work there. Some people were masked at the hardware store. Others had masks around their necks.

Talked to a friend last night. Her daughter and son-in-law have it medium bad-sick as dogs but not hospitalized. They have a 12-year old and a 1-year old who show no symptoms. The grandmother lives with the couple but is not symptomatic either.

School FINALLY came out with a plan, well sorta. It's either going to be in school full time with non-optional face masks for everyone (and the school will be providing both fabric ones to take home and disposable ones for kids/teachers who don't have any) or the same plan as the Omaha district which will be a hybrid version.
I can live with either one myself. DH will be home indefinitely and I rotate so I will be home some Mondays. My mom may have to do Tuesdays if the girls land on that schedule but that's only one day a week compared to possibly 5 days so that's pretty good. DH might be able to switch his office day to one where the girls are in school too.
Abby has been going to daycare all this time and I have been working in close quarters along with dealing with customers at the business so I am not overly concerned if they go to school full time. We will discuss things with my in laws and my grandmother and let them decide if they want to go back to isolating from us or not when school starts.

Since PA made masks mandatory I have observed more people in compliance. Remember I still only do pick up so its just what I see on the road or in parking lots in and out.
I did almost break down and tell daughter maybe we could go to the thrift store masked... but if i open that floodgate... nope, not ready for it. She is doing costuming for an outdoor play this month and I know she could probably pick up some pieces, but we have tons too and much fabric, so I think it will have to do.

My governor put some bite into the mask order today. $500 fine. Inside public places, and outdoor crowded places. I have a couple from work, I made y kids a couple, but I feel like I should get some better, more comfortable ones. The Etsy ones I found seem expensive. Anyone have the Old Navy ones? My 10 year-old is tricky on the size. It seems like the kids ones are for younger kids. I don't want them to pull on the ears too much. I think my home-made ones may be too thick for the summer/outdoors. I feel like the ones I have from work are too thin/worthless. The more comfortable one of those is a tie-behind, which is a PITA. Why is everything so hard? Is it me? Maybe I'm complicating this too much.

Yesterday we were in Seattle. Getting to my doctor’s office, we drove quite a bit through Seattle neighborhoods.
One of the things I noticed was that everyone had a mask on. Even when they were walking a dog, taking a run, riding a bike or shopping or outside where they could easily social distance. I really was surprised so many on the street had masks on.
Inside the office building, unless you needed help, only the patient was allowed in the building. You had to get medically screened, then got a ‘I got screened Thursday’ sticker. Only the patient was allowed back to the exam rooms. Even the guy pushing his wife’s wheelchair was left in the waiting room (the woman in the wheelchair was the only one who was not wearing a mask properly). The only family member who came back to the exam room with the patient was one who was deaf and needed a translator.

Before the state mandate, compliance here (Salem OR) at the grocery and Walmart was about 50-60% from my observation. Currently it seems to be almost 100% indoors. Very little outdoors (not required in most cases). A far cry from LifePartTwo's part of the state. But then we have had 1743 cases and her county has had 3.

I’m in DC, and everyone wears a mask indoors and outdoors most people are wearing them, at least where people are around. I get the feeling people here are taking this serious (listening to science rather than that nasty old man who sits on the “throne” down the street).

Just talked to a lady I used to work with. She is 68 years old and has some health issues. She ownes a business and flies all over the country selling medical equipment to doctors offices. Said she started back flying 3 weeks ago and has flown 1-2 times each week (often with a layover). I am concerned for her, but she said she feels comfortable. Said the airports are low traffic so she keeps to herself while waiting for the flight, everyone on board is wearing a face mask, she brings wipes and cleans her area, etc. Of course, people at the offices she visits are all masked. She is not going to any of the northern states that require her to quarantine first.
I am supposed to go see my dad at the end of August. She may be my test subject. If she can fly around the counrty 1-2 times a week for the next 2 months and not get this, then I might feel comfortable going to see my dad.

Last Thursday GA set a new one-day record of 3500 cases. We broke the record today at 4484. Makes our percentage of positive tests 9.7%.

An employee of ours was murdered as she worked alone in one of our buildings. Crushed her head and robbed the money. ETA: Company policy changed after the murder to no one works alone in any of our offices or other buildings. Being near to such an event does influence thought process. Would the presence of a second person saved one life or caused a second death? Impossible to know for sure. Would you break into someone's home if you knew there was more than one person somewhere else in the house? 'You' might be able to over power one but do you know where the other one is and what they are capable of doing to you?

I am not a big fan of anyone working alone at a business location. Safety issue. Is your employer the only business in your building or are you in a building with multiple businesses. If you or anyone else who works in your office/business yelled for help would someone outside your office hear you? Off my soap box now. Public library, in a teeny-tiny building of its own, on a residential street. So, next door neighbors are only feet away. Not sure if they'd hear me, locked in by myself (no patrons allowed in rn). Working for a whole week by myself isn't quite usual, but I probably work alone more than with another staffer. Saturdays are solo, evenings are solo, if director has anything off-site, I'm solo. But in normal times, there are patrons around, too. Yeah, they might be the threat, too. IDK, small rural village library. Budgets are tight. But, we are all also on a first name basis with the Chief of police, not a block away, so Based upon the nature of your 'business', not too many folks break into libraries to steal books.

In most cases, random murders are just that - random. I'm glad the company changed their policy, but unless there is a good reason for someone to rob the business, that may have been totally isolated.

Did a survey for the school it looks like they are going to work with Kids & Co to provide some sort of daycare set up so if they go hybrid or have to go to all remote parents still have options. That would help us out too in case my mom couldn't watch them on a day they are remote and DH gets called into the office. It would also give my mom a break especially if this is something that goes on for more than just the fall semester.

That's 'cause y'all got them tree huggin', Subaru drivin' hippies over in that sinner part of the state! lol Honestly, it's getting better here because I think more people are opening up to the idea that this is actually a dangerous disease they'd rather not get. And, there's so many damn travelers coming through right now. It took me a good 5 minutes to cross the highway yesterday. It's one RV or truck pulling a boat/camper after another. Great, except many of them stop here and bring their germs... I did find the post office lack of wearing masks weird though. The local stores have been threatened with state officials pulling their business licences and are for the most part doing a good job, but I guess the USPS doesn't really have that issue. At the end of this month is the Jr. Rodeo and the fair this year is also still on the calendar. There will be an outbreak here at some point. How can there not be?

But junkies do break in to steal small amounts of cash, as well as weird stuff. Like every pen and sharpie we owned, small hand tools, stickers... more than a year later we were still coming across missing things that we hadn't realized she'd stolen. Could never prove who it was, but we knew.

The grumpy rumblings blog bought the old navy masks-she said they were a little too big on her large 7yo until she washed them and then they fit perfectly, if I remember correctly. You could order them, try them on for size and handwash if you don’t want them to shrink? (You might also want to look up the actual review rather than rely on my leaky memory!)

I am super good friends with my daughter's BFF's mother. My friend is a nurse, but is a high level administrator- maybe director of nursing or something, at a big hospital. I've been following her lead on this. She has wandered over during this thing, and we will sit outside and chat. At first we would sit in the front yard on blankets, but as it has gotten hotter, we have moved to our cooler back yard, and gone swimming. We keep our distance, and she has given us some basic guidelines. The girls have been together more, but same deal, almost always outside, far apart, lots of swimming. Suddenly last week, my DD said her friend was "put on lockdown", so I immediately called my friend to make sure everything was okay. She said there has been some cases starting among the medical staff, and although she hasn't had any patient contact, nor close contact with any employees who have tested positive, she wanted to be responsible, so they were staying away for a bit. Although she made it sound overly precautious, it is kinda freaking me out.

thyme4change your nurse friend's actions agree with what my pulmonary specialist told me. He said outside properly spaced he didn't think there was much risk of transmission. He said inside was much riskier. That's what I'm going with.

In addition, when this was raging in my area, I tried to avoid contact with as many people as I could due to my exposure history. Only responsible thing to do, in addition it sets a good example, and may decrease the amount we get exposed.

I went to the farmer's market this morning. I really wanted another raspberry pound cake and to see if anyone had any veggies.
The farmer who sold me veggies said he's 89. He and his (also elderly) son explained to me how we won't have COVID here because we are a remote area. Meanwhile, we are standing right next to a major highway that's non-stop traffic...
I've heard this was a problem in the 1918 pandemic where rural folks assumed it would only spread in the more populated cities.
The issue with small towns is we all shop at the same place, we all go to the post office because we have no home mail delivery, etc... I can see someone getting it and once it gets into the air of the old post office half the damn town could end up with it.
Personally, I wear a mask when inside a store as required. I don't wear one outside at the farmer's market, mostly because no one else there does and it's easy to stay away from other people.
I think the risk is probably higher in a grocery store wearing a mask than outdoors at the farmer's market.
I've heard talk of school kids having classes outdoors. Great, except for anywhere where there's actually winter... lol
There was a doctor on CNN yesterday who said this fall if this current trajectory continues it will be every American for themselves and we could see major disruption in every system in the US as cases soar. I can see that scenario if we don't formulate a plan and start following it.
I'm not a prepper, but I am really committed to keeping enough stores in my house that we could hunker down for a minimum of 2-3 months if necessary. I see that as one of the only things most of us can do is to prepare ourselves and for our family's needs/comfort.

They opened the test sites early today because we are under a heat advisory. They had to close them early yesterday because the heat index was around 108.

You can see the result of indiana opening up! WOW!
New Cases 793 New Deaths 8
Positive Cases 51,079 Deaths 2,563
Our county this week has gained 5, we are at 50 now. A small population county, neighbor ones are rising also.
Not good. I'm crossing my fingers we didn't catch anything from that funeral. It was 6/30. I have had a slight sore throat but has not gotten worse. About 3 more days, so I'm hopeful.
This is a huge surge.
