I pretty much always shoot in burst mode. That way, the timing of the shot doesn't matter so much. Chances are I'll get at least one that's usable. That's how I ended up with that hilarious heron shot.

Fish, anyone? Bummed I cut off the top of the osprey's wing but I didn't have much time to prepare. It was headed my way, and I was just trying to keep it in sight as it flew over me. osprey by Laura M, on Flickr

My favorite photographer is Brassai. A Hungarian photographer in Paris (and other locations) during the '30s and '40s. Here are a couple of my favorites: 'The Stairs of Montmartre' La Môme Bijou In the movie Titanic, the characters Jack and Rose are on the top deck of the ship and Rose asks Jack if she can look at his sketch book. One of the sketches is of the woman pictured above. Got a kick out of the drawing/picture being in the movie especially since the Titanic sunk in 1912 and the photo above wasn't take until the 1930s.

No, although that photo looks familiar. Are you maybe thinking of this picture shot by Richard Avedon?

No, although that photo looks familiar. I "discovered" him over 2 decades ago but is work is so popular now, he's turned into a meme generator.

Wow. It's been a long time since I've put any pics up here. For those on my FB, you've already seen these so you can ignore me. Any of them you want to see a bit larger, just click the image and it takes you to my flickr. From there, look for a double ended arrow in the top right corner. bald eagle with nictitating membrane covering its eye bald eagle american kestrel northern pintail red-tailed hawk european starling

Had to look it up to make sure I knew what it meant.
Nictitating membrane
A whitish or translucent membrane that forms an inner eyelid in birds, reptiles, and some mammals. It can be drawn across the eye to protect it from dust and keep it moist.

At least I was close, lol.Excellent pictures! Thanks for posting. Thanks!

Lizard Queen - thank you very much! I spend a lot of time out there, lol. I recently decided to upgrade my lens from a 100-400mm to a 150-600mm. I've gotten some decent shots with it, but they weren't as sharp as I thought they should be, even allowing for operator error. So I sent both lenses and my body in to the lens manufacturer to have them professionally calibrated under warranty. Haven't gotten to play with it since it all got back on Wed, but here are a few I took before that. hooded merganser juvenile red-tailed hawk bald eagle

I think people would be bored if I posted them that often, lol. You can also bookmark my flickr directly, if you're so inclined. Sometimes it gets behind, but it's usually less than a month. I do have things more or less sorted into albums, but the vast majority are birds. www.flickr.com/photos/188129705@N03/albums

WOW thanks for posting. You have a talent I envy!! I am the worst photographer on the face of the earth! Don't go so long between postings. In fact I had forgotten that I had this thread bookmarked from long ago. And yes I know I could check the bookmarks button but just haven't done it in forever!!

Thanks, NNP. I'm terrible about keeping up. I post more on instagram than anywhere now. My flickr was about 2 months behind until a half hour ago lol. Facebook falls by the wayside a lot, too. As far as talent, I am still not nearly as good as so many others I know. But I still get out there every day I can and practice. I just recently got a used 500mm prime lens that I use a monopod with because the lens weighs over 8 pounds. So that's a whole learning curve, I tell ya! I got a message from someone very kindly looking out for me, pointing out that my real name is on my photos. I know it is, but honestly, it doesn't really matter to me anymore. If anyone wants to block me on FB, now they can. Or they can friend me too, I guess. But I'm not going to do one set of edits with my watermark and another without. That's too much work lol.
