I am out on UI . My employer opened back up for curbside pick up and I chose not to return because I’m considered high risk for covid 19 . Just got text thIs morning from manager telling me (and others) that since we are now reopened completely for customers , I need to either come back or quit . If I don’t decide by Sunday , the new manager that is taking over then will decide . I ran into the same situation. I created a position for myself with minimal customer contact. Can you do the same? Or convince them to lay you off, not fire you, so that you can continue to collect?

This is a huge corporation (fabric) , they tend to treat employees like crap . I really love my coworkers though . I had filed a leave of absence, on their insistence, and I put that I was going to be out at least til August. I tried to call HR today , left message . So we shall see .

I'd make them fire you, then you are eligible for UI. This is how states are getting out of paying UI. It's bullshit, because it's NOT safe for everyone to return to work, especially with the public. By making you file a leave of absence, they are getting out of paying your UI just like many try to do by asking people to quit instead of firing them.

I don't know what state Crazy is in but both Iowa and Nebraska WILL NOT pay you if you are fired/quit because you don't want to be exposed to COVID. Normal rules for both of those apply. Layoffs are the only way you can collect around here and even then it's super easy for employers to find "cause" and deny you payment anyhow. Nebraska is actually the second hardert state to collect UI in. Florida was #1 at the time I read the article.

I’ve already notified EDD that I wasn’t going back to work because of Covid 19 and being considered high risk. I’ve gotten one payment since then . I’m not sure if they will let me still collect here if they fire me . So it’s just a waiting game at this point . It would be great to actually be able to contact/talk to someone in HR though . 🤷♀️

Spoke with HR , no help there , but no surprise. Called my acting store manager , and she is going to change my position to a casual team member instead of a regular team member . I will still work there but won’t be scheduled unless I want to or they really need me . So I won’t have to decide right now if I should go to my doctors ( impossible to get in right now ) and go out on disability or just quit .
I still don’t know if I will continue receiving UI . I should find out soon though .
