I'm furious.
I knew that trump was enclosing a letter with the government check they sent out to all Americans with the bonus money. I assumed, though, those would only go to people who got a physical check - DH and I got the direct deposit.
Imagine my surprise to get the letter today, with the big sharpie Trump signature on the bottom. Like he's the kindly benefactor who personally sent me that money.
I want to know how much it cost the tax payers to pay for the paper, the envelopes and the postage for that - or did Trump just fuck over the struggling post office and make them foot the bill? It was totally unnecessary, unless you consider it free campaign advertising for Trump.
I want to send the letter back, with some choice words of my own, but I'm sure the SS would come talk to me about it. DH recommended that we send it back to Trump, thank him for his generous check to us, and tell him that, since our income hasn't been impacted by the current crisis, we donated that money to the Joe Biden campaign.
Sounds like a plan!

I confess.
I saw the letter from the IRS, opened it, saw his signature, scanned it briefly, and threw it straight into the trash. Hope there wasn't any important information in there.
His use of the "invisible enemy" phrase really bugs the shit out of me, and of course, it was in there.
It shocked me not a whit that he wast trying to take credit for the money.

I’ve been prepared. I plan to write “refused” on it and send it back. The USPS will get paid twice

I have written "DECEASED" on mail before but am thinking it wouldn't be a good on this one.

I get emails every day from the post office, telling me what's coming in the mail each day (USPS informed delivery is what it's called). I saw the photo preview of that letter today. Now that I know what it is, I can just chuck it. I'd return to sender, but it won't go to him.

His base will love it. Swing voters will hate it. Sounds like a good trade-off if you ask me.

I'm not even going to open mine, since my check was direct deposited. Maybe I'll put it in the bottom of the cat box.

Can you use it as toilet paper? Nope. Really smooth paper and absolutely useless as TP. I did make sure to rip through the sharpie part if the letter a few times before tossing it.

How would his vote buying scam work if he didn't spend extra money to send out those letters? Says all you need to know about him.....

Sounds like a plan! Nope, "postage and fees paid - Internal Revenue Service". I got the letter last week. I can't decide if Trump wrote it himself and someone cleaned it up into full adult sentences and everything, or if someone else wrote it in government platitudes while Trump insisted on a few of his pet phrases awkwardly inserted ("wage total war on this invisible enemy"). Either way, it's got some grammar issues (plural references to "America", etc). Miles above Trumps usual style, but still...

A letter was going to be sent: The economic recovery law that provided for the stimulus payments requires that a written notice be sent via mail to the last known address of any taxpayer who received one of the stimulus checks. The law says the letter must be sent no later than 15 days after the money has been distributed and must include the payment method, the amount of the payment and an IRS phone number to report any failure to receive such a payment.
The law doesn’t dictate who should send the letter. link
The honest issue is whether it should have been signed by the President.

The honest issue is whether it should have been signed by the President. It reads like a campaign flier. IRS complained this politicized what is supposed to be a non political government department.

DS just got his trump letter. His name can in no way be mistaken for a person whose mother tongue is Spanish. The letter is in Spanish. What?

He spends all that time railing against Mexico, insisting on building the wall, and calls mexicans dirty rapists and drug dealers, and then he blatantly appeals for their vote? He has no shame.

His need to blame someone for his incompetence is the perfect picture of our current disaster. What we need is a coherent response, and problem solving from a president who shows some understanding of the scope of the problem. Instead we get figure it out and it’s not my fault
