First off it will make Trump's head explode like dropping a jack o'lantern off a 5 story lanai after Halloween. Secondly, it would thwart all the various un-American techniques being perpetrated on us by those scoundrels on the right. Thirdly, it will deliver a result that is more in line with what a majority of Americans think and want. Vote by mail. As tallguy pointed out, and others with states that have it already, we here in Washington have been doing it for years. The fact that Trump implies it is full of fraud is, of course, proof that it is not. And while flapping the orange jowls he let slip the real problem....republicans would find it exceedingly difficult to get elected except in the most red states. The recent debacle in Wisconsin just shows how necessary this is right now during the who knows how long virus shutdown. And as we have seen on this board recently, we already have toy fascists coming out with the idea that those on SS, welfare, and college students should have their right to vote stolen from them. It's time to assert some Democratic forces against such anti-American 'citizens'. Here is a fine editorial on voter suppression and it's history: www.nytimes.com/2020/04/11/opinion/sunday/republicans-voter-suppression.htmlOn March 30, the Republican id burst forth when President Trump said that the latest congressional stimulus bill “had things — levels of voting that, if you ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”

What preventive measures are taken to prevent mail in ballots from landing in a shredder?

Or rerouted to Russia, where they change all votes from blue to red, then mail them back again?

The False Narrative of Vote-by-Mail Fraud
"None of the five states that hold their elections primarily by mail has had any voter fraud scandals since making that change. As the New York Times editorial board notes, “states that use vote-by-mail have encountered essentially zero fraud: Oregon, the pioneer in this area, has sent out more than 100 million mail-in ballots since 2000, and has documented only about a dozen cases of proven fraud.” "

The mailman? I guess if you had a drop off station, some boxes could disappear, but that is true of voting locations too.

One case of fraud for every ten million votes, and almost an assurance that each case only affects one vote. FAR better than any other system, with more participation, better security, and greatly reduced costs. But we can't have it everywhere because the GOP knows that they have to rig elections to maintain power. Sound about right?

Even had the phony Kobach led commission.

And if I remember correctly, the most voter fraud has been perpetrated by GOP voters. But I'm sure Bills will correct me if I'm wrong.

My recollection is that intentional individual voter fraud (not including what should be properly called mistaken belief) is more often Republicans than Democrats, while organized vote fraud is far more likely to be Republican in origin.

the vast majority of voter fraud is from absentee ballots. the most recent example was Virginia. only that was not voter fraud, technically. it was election fraud, because the ballots were tampered, not fraudulently created out of nothing.

only I would add "... the vast majority of a miniscule amount ..." And I think your point of it being election fraud is important. We need to be clear where potential issues exist so we can address them and not use them as an excuse to make it more difficult for individuals to cast a ballot.

trump being against voting by mail just makes me want to vote by mail.
I always vote early but this year I just might ask for an absentee ballot.

Luckily, my state has voluntary vote by mail, no reason needed. So at least the state can't STOP people from voting by mail if they want to avoid illness and death. Voting by mail was kinda a Republican thing, until a few weeks ago.
