Holyoke is a suburb of Springfield and where I was born and grew up. Spoke to my cousin who lives in Springfield and the arsa citizens are appalled at the condition of the soldiers home.

This breaks my heart. Those who have served our country deserve SO much better.

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

How sad these elderly individuals who served their country with honor were treated so despicably.

Just FYI. Many of the "soldiers Homes" are not under the control or ownership of the VA. Many are owned and operated by the state government (ours is here in NW Arkansas). At times the ownership may also fall as low as being owned and under the control of the local county.

BG _ Volunteer VA Interesting. I like a lot of others assumed they were operated by the VA. Don't think we have one here but now I'm off to google to see. Thanks for the info.

The VA will also contract out to local nursing homes when other options are not available. VA 'homes" are also not free for all veterans. There is a percentage level of disability before they become at no cost. The disability rating is 70% or more .
In fact, contrary to what some may think, care for veterans is not always free. Again, it depends on whether or not the veteran has a disability percentage of 50% or more. 100% disability is like getting the brass ring......off the carousel.
