It looks like she deleted her account though I'm not sure.

Missing MissR and never got to see photos of her must be gorgeous garden What happened to her? Check out the "discussion on ghetto-definition, connotation, usage" thread and you'll understand why she left.
(It's quite a ways down from the Gardening Thread)

Went to see my backyard plants this morning. Tons of rose hips on the rose bushes.
We had a frost last week which is unusual for around here. It killed my three Coreus plants.

We had just one coleus in an outdoor pot that got quite big by the end of the season. Kept pinching off the flower stems and it just kept growing. The first light freeze and pffft, turned it to mush. We wanted to overwinter a stem in the house because we liked the color combo, but missed our chance.

We still haven't had a deep killing frost. The grass has stopped growing but some of the weeds are in glory. Maybe after Thanksgiving I'll do a winter-ready clean up of the yard and gardens.

But I say this as someone who gardens n semi tropical weather so what works for me might be mute issue for you. But I lost coleus top due to uncommon frost once and decided to do test run with roots and plant came up in spring. Just a thought.

Too late, the DW already dumped the pot a few weeks ago when it happened. It got raked in by her spider lilies. We refill them with fresh black pond mud every spring.

Spent the last two days in mortal combat against a sea of weeds. May have got a case of poison ivy. (Only need to be within visual distance of a poison ivy vine to start itching, apparently).
While I’m making my assault against the viscous enemy with clippers and a rake, three vehicles that look like golf carts but sound like gas powered riding lawn mowers (I think they’re a kind of ATV?) are buzzing relentlessly around in the neighborhood. The guys driving them are not kids - look like 20 - 30 years old, and one is grey headed. I’m wondering if they are Thanksgiving guests of my neighbors across the street. I wish they’d take the noisy things out into the country and ride them off road - we have a hilly, wooded, curvy neighborhood and the way they are zipping around it would be easy for them to get crunched by someone in a vehicle. That would ruin Thanksgiving for sure.
Still, they’ll be gone before my poison ivy is, most likely.
Christmas shopping today, then back out to trim and hack and weed tomorrow.

I think some of my plants are just as confused by the weather as I am about my plants.
I moved all the containers on the deck up against the brick walls of the house the day we were first forecast to get close to freezing at night.
There are 3 rosemary plants. One looks like it’s knocking at death’s door. The one closest to it looks a little better. The 3rd one not only looks fine, it has a little flower and a lot of flower buds.
The French lavender, which IIRC is not as cold hardy as the English lavender I have elsewhere, suddenly started blooming again a couple weeks ago, after looking half dead with no flowers since mid summer. Right now it has 5 small flowers and a few buds that haven’t opened yet. I don’t recall reading anything that said to expect that. It seems to be doing ok without my help, so I’ll just continue to leave it alone despite my strong urge to try to help it. My “help” doesn’t seem to go well for my plants lol.

On a lark late summer I planted the butt end from a head of romaine lettuce to see what it would do. It eventually sprouted a small stalk with little flowers and it surprisingly went to seed. I now have four or five little heads of romaine lettuce growing. Caesar salad here I come.

It has been so unseasonably warm here the daffodils have broken ground. They are in for a rude awakening in a bit. Under normal winter weather conditions they begin to break ground in mid-Februaryl

Today I noticed the kitty willow catkins are swelling- all things that usually don’t happen until February/March. And another possible early arrival - tornados on Wednesday.

Got a handful of air plants from Santa. Have put them in globes in the window - let's see if I can keep them alive

Or did we get that cold snap in early December and from now until May we’ll have warm unsettled weather with fierce outcrops of tornados?

Romaine got recalled so often I decided growing my own was hopefully safer.

And the single Dog stinkhorn mushroom (picture above) multiplied to about two dozen by Saturday morning due to the warm temps.

Cut back my mums yesterday. DH says I cannot take my hanging fuschia with me when we move this summer. He doesn't think it's supposed to be a perennial and therefore doesn't flower enough for him. I'm annoyed.
I need to pull and compost my sunflowers. They're in cutting beds that are out of sight, so I keep forgetting about them.

We set multiple daytime high temps records in December. Yesterday morning I woke up around 4 a.m. and turned on the TV to see where the storms we were expecting were. The Weather Channel showed us a 70 degrees. That's like early October over night temps here.

But that’s the norm.

This house doesn't get much sunshine indoors, so this year I bought a little light box/indoor garden setup. My herbs are actually growing pretty well with it. Right now I've got all the fresh cilantro and dill I can eat. I'm gonna plant some basil next. Of course I wish it was bigger, but I wanted something that fit on my breakfast table.

Please, please share more about your light box/indoor garden setup. I don’t get good natural light here, but there are a few herbs I’d really like to be able to grow indoors.

I have a hyacinth whose leaves are a couple inches above ground. I think it's not deep enough. I piled some mulch around and on top of it, but if I have time, I'm going to see if I can put more there. I think last year it did a similar thing and did not grow or bloom when it should have.

On Christmas we were able to eat with the French doors open to the screened porch and the ceiling fans running which was good, because SIL and her whole family came with some disease. So far, DH haven’t gotten it.

Ack looks like that bulb set off side-shoots. Two more sets of hyacinth leaves poking up. Today. we allegedly hit freezing briefly. Almost all our lows going forward will be below freezing.
