I guess I should have said ‘kitty willow’ - apparently you can’t use the p word even in the botanical sense.
I don’t have a willow- I don’t think they do good down here, probably too hot.

Agghhhh spent a couple hundred bucks on a wire fence all around my raised bed veggie boxes this spring AND I JUST FOUND A BUNNY INSIDE IT!!!!!
Squeezed up under the wire fence edge.
And this was a big adult bunny too, not the little babies I’ve been seeing playing in the yard.
How do I keep the fence on the ground? Would garden stakes pin it down? Hire Elmer Fudd? (He wasn’t that good at getting wrabbits though was he. )

Tomorrow I’ll water earlier in morning ,I watered for an hour today 11:00 to noon Tomorrow rain predicted in afternoon but gardener said not to depend on rain.

I would think some sort of stake would hold it down. I'd space them no more than a foot apart, maybe less depending on how tight they hold it. If you have any sort of border around the garden, you could attach the fence to that.

My bed is raised about 10" and I have my fencing near the top on the inside of the edging. The dirt has held it down so far and the bunny hasn't been back for the smorgasbord. My lettuce is growing like crazy now.

I had to separate one of my rosemarys. I potted them like they came, which was 3 in one pot. I put them all in one large pot. But I didn’t do it right and they were looking crazy. So I took 2 out and put them in separate, smaller pots and left one in the large pot. That one still looks crazy because I was hot and sweaty by the time I got the other 2 together. And my little hand trowel or whatever it’s called seems to have disappeared and I dare not stick my bare hand into the dirt. I’ll fix it eventually.
Despite my best intentions to leave my little survivor Lavender alone, I didn’t. And almost killed it again. But it’s a true survivor because there’s green new growth growing from the half dead parts. I feel like I should apologize to the poor plant.
All my other lavenders are thriving, thank goodness.
The May Night Salvia that was growing so fast in the pot, is not looking too good now either. Sigh.
The day lily in the wood planter that I didn’t think would bloom because it gets so much shade has lots of buds now. More than the one in the other wood planter that bloomed first and gets more sunlight.
My violas are still hanging in there, well except for the one I killed, but I already told y’all about that one.
And I really think my bare root roses are dead for real. Darn it!
The daylilies and salvia in the mailbox bed are doing fine. Yay! Mister pulled some of the weeds out of the bed yesterday. The crepe myrtles in that bed have way more leaves than I remember them having the past couple of years. So much that they are shading my flowers in the early afternoon. Now I’m wondering if they’ll get enough sunlight to continue to thrive. I’m not sure what to do if they don’t.
So that’s my latest garden report. Happy gardening everyone!

Pink, anything in pots will dry out quicker than what's in the ground. If you are watering them all the same, you may need to change that.
Those roses may still be ok. Don't give up on them yet! Bare-roots always take a lot longer to grow, in my experience, anyway.
Also, most stores (around here, anyway) offer 1 year guarantees on their perennials, bushes and trees. If the roses really are dead, check the return policy. You may be able to get a replacement or your money back.

You can just remove some of the offending crepe myrtle branch to let more light in to the plants below- myrtles are flexible that way.

I think they do have a 1 year guarantee, but I just threw away the packaging last week when I was cleaning up in the garage. . I haven’t dug them up, I’ll leave them and keep waiting to see if anything happens.

The great cicada invasion has precipitated an explosion of the population of tiny dinosaurs, aka birds, around here. And to mess with my mind, the cicadas in flight strongly resemble overweight humming birds. This is some summer.

F*ucking rabbits ate my rose bush! Going to have to put something around it to keep them out.
Something is also starting to snack on some of my flowers. Bastards.

Looks like the cicadas aren't coming here. The map I saw had them stop at the Chesapeake Bay and I'm on the Eastern Shore. Most are around DC and surrounding counties. They have been seen by weather radar!

We have none on my street. Now driving to the airport in Baltimore County we could hear them over the radio and road noise. Glad we don't have them, that would be obnoxious.

I'm trying to figure out what decided to much on one of my succulents. NOTHING ever eats succulents, but something definitely gnawed neat semi-circular sections out of a lot of leaves in one pot.
My new pollinator garden hasn't draw too many butterflies yet, but I have lots of bee action there, in my crape myrtles, and on the succulents that are blooming.

jerseygirl About watering! Water early in the morning so that the water can soak in and doesn't evaporate. The hotter and sunnier the day, the quicker the evaporation, which won't do your flowers any good, and watering late in the morning when the sun is already pretty high can burn both flowers and lawn. Also, water your flowers from the bottom to prevent fungus and powdery mildew. Best way to water from the bottom is with a soaker hose unless you have an irrigation system. Your flowers probably only need a couple of inches of water each week and your lawn only an inch or two unless there's a drought in your area. Don't water in the evening; it's another thing that promotes fungus.

happyhoix I think a sedum is a succulent, and nothing ever ate mine either. Fortunately, my nibbled-on succulent is a very common and prolific type where every leave that breaks off makes a whole new plant. I think it's some sort of Echeveria.

I’m sitting on the deck looking at one of the funny colored daylily flowers. It’s pretty. It’s rained a lot lately, so I haven’t watered any of my babies. In fact, I’m concerned that some of them have gotten more water than they like over the past few days. It’s a good thing I don’t need to water the ones that aren’t on the deck. There was a snake in the front yard yesterday, about a foot from the walkway I use to get to my lavender plants. Unless I can convince Mister to water them, everything that’s not on the deck is on its own until further notice. I’m skeert!

Waiting for the lilies to bloom, and just like last year a deer has already started munching on one. The one nearest me only had a main stalk and a side stalk. Apparently last night or early this morning it decided now was the time to eat the flower before it bloomed. Not sure how to protect it. Do you think covering them at night with plastic or paper bags might help? Any deer repellent that actually works? Put out the rest of the blood meal I had around two of the three plants. I'm hoping to buy some Rose Tone in the near future for the roses, so I can look for deer repellent if someone found one that works. It was only about 4 feet from two apartment doors. They are pretty fearless when people are sleeping.

The black snake that eats the field mice under the house sometimes comes into the storage room under the screened porch where we keep the lawn equipment and chemicals. I haven’t seen him but found two snake skins. Now, before I enter the room when the weather is warm, I open the door and stand there on the threshold for several minutes, checking out the floor and rafters for movement before I go in. My neighbors probably think I’m nuts. Better than scaring the neighborhood with a blood curdling shriek.

My update- I fertilized the raised beds and then we had rain on and off all week, along with hot temps. Raised bed veggies are growing like they’re in a hothouse, which they pretty much are. Lemon drop squash has a ton of little squash flowers - I better figure out how to cook them. Tomatoes all have little green babies. So far so good.
Went to get one final potted plant for the front porch and they were having a 50% off sale. Had a bunch of poor sad dried out iris - not a good time to plant them but I can keep them in the shade until time to plant them in the fall. Poor things, I set them on the porch and watered them good and I swear I heard them sigh in relief. They perked up a few leaves. Hopefully they’ll be okay until I do the new iris bed in the fall.

Yippee. The lawn got mowed this afternoon. It was hot, but I waited until most of the lawn was in the shade. Now I don't have to do it tomorrow. Instead, I'll be up and dressed and ready to roll as soon as it's light out in the morning to get cracking in the garden. There's a lot that needs doing because of my neglect in the past week. I'm ashamed. Do I look ashamed? No? Ok. How about now?

Lillies are starting to take off. We were surprised my brother said he only planted three bulbs last year. The one that bloomed fried so we didn't think they'd come back. Clearly we were wrong.
