Went out to check on my peas today and noticed a whole lot of “volunteer” tomato plants. I only grew two types last years a cherry type that was extremely prolific and a regular one that didn’t give many tomatoes. The cherry tomatoes kept falling into my veggie beds so I guess that is where these come from. I’ll let them get a little bigger and get rid of the little ones. I’ll see if any of my neighbors want a plant or two. My oregano came back full force as did the parsley. I planted some onions and they’re growing well as are the peas I planted. I planted some carrot seeds along with some lettuces.
Everything seems to be growing well. I still need to plant green beans, but it may be a little early for those.

I'm jealous of all of you with baby tomatoes already. My tomato seeds haven't even sprouted yet. My sunflowers and peas are just starting to peak their heads out of the dirt. For something new this year I'm gonna try to grow some loofah. They have sprouted and actually growing pretty well already.
I'm planning for my sunflowers to be huge. I'll let you know how it goes. Last year I had a couple that were really big but not ready in time for the fair. This year I saved the seeds and I'm trying to grow the new plants from those saved seeds. I'm starting them earlier this time.

A blossom on the other tomato plant, too! Yippee. They'll be cousins.
For years we've had BLTs for supper on the Fourth of July. Looks like we'll have plenty of tomatoes. Now if I just knew how to grow bacon...

Of one my cherry tomato plants has about 5 little ones and lots of blooms. The other one is just lots of leaves at this point, so it will bear later which is good. Thai basil is putting out leaves and I'm finding seedlings from it and the sweet basil coming up between the flagstones.

I forgot to mention that the first iris is blooming. There are buds on the peonies. Yippee. It really is spring So far what's blooming is that one iris with many more budded and ready to open, knockout roses (24 yellow, pink, and red rose bushes!), dianthus, snapdragons, forget-me-nots, azaleas, marigolds, euphorbia, anemones, zinnias, phlox, creeping phlox, Achillea ptarmica ballerina, pink salvia, lavender and Mona lavender, lobelia, shamrocks, impatiens, and the white star and blue star creeper that's a ground cover wherever there aren't any flowers planted. The ground cover is nice because it doesn't care if it gets walked on and it has tiny little white or blue flowers all summer long. The tulips, daffodils, and crocus are done. There are also some accent plants that don't flower...Persian shield and dusty miller and there may be coleus later (depending on how long the $$ holds out!). Another four to six weeks and everything will be in bloom! Next up of the bulb flowers after the iris will be daylilies, then canna lilies, then some obscure Asiatic lilies that I can't identify, then gladiolus. Sixty Ixia bulbs were planted for the first time, and I have no idea how long before they bloom. Have I mentioned that I love my garden? Can you tell that I get excited watching it grow?

The first pepper plant I bought is also having a "baby." She should considering how I brought her in last night because of a freeze warning, took her back out for a sunbath, and brought her back in tonight because of predicted storms. This is a lot of work for one pepper. I am kidding. And the real reason that I am doing it is that DH and I grew peppers a few years ago together, and it was fun to do it together. We would make jokes like, "If you will grow big and strong, you can come into the big house with us." So I am trying to recreate a nice memory in the midst of all this chaos.

We ate some of the garden cherry tomatoes over pasta tonight. Lots more coming. The other plants look pretty good. Even the lemon tree has flowers on it.

I noticed the daisies and iris plants I put out last year are coming up again. I'm excited. None of the flower seeds I put out a few weeks ago came up. I guess the birds ate them all. My fresia bulbs I got this year are just sprouting. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

For some reason our peach tree didn't have any blossoms on it this spring. Huh? That's a first.

I forgot that there are also geraniums and columbines in bloom. Geez, I looked at the list and wondered why I whine because I want the garden to get going. It is going!

oped They're on my phone, not on my laptop and I don't know how to get them from phone to laptop. Push them in with a stick? I'll have to ask DD. As soon as I got to "upload" in your message, I knew it was beyond my, um, skill set BTW, is mroped your DH? Every time I see the board name, I read "moped."

DH got a Japanese Maple tree from some friends a few weeks ago. When it was planted in their yard it had dark red leaves but now only half has red leaves. The other half has green leaves. It’s really strange to see. We only planted a few weeks ago, so maybe the green leaves will change to red. My black walnut tree doesn’t look like it will leaf out, but I’m holding out hope that it will recover after the plumbers cut through its root system while trying to fix the broken pipe last year and the year before. They said they’d replace it if it died, but I will guarantee they won’t at this point.

The globe amaranth I ordered a week ago have finally been shipped, but for today at least, I've lost interest. I'll probably be dead by the time they get here or by the time they're planted or by the time they bloom.

My lilac-colored azalea (tucked into a corner of the house) is in full bloom. My magnolia tree (which I LOVE) has buds but today’s storm seems to be blowing them off. Hyacinths and daffodils are in bloom along the edge of the road. A vole or some other varmint sheared the leaves off a line of tulip bulbs along a fence and ate the bulbs, leaving the leaves. YDS and I have a plan to expand the veggie garden. We will need fencing to keep the critters out and hatched a plan to use downed tree limbs for a rustic frame for the chicken wire. We will also build a squash arch out of tree limbs to leave ground space for other veggies. I have 110 pots of hot weather veggies seeded and hopefully doing their thing under the soil.

Some hints for some of you newbees….if your seeds haven't come up, they likely need some heat under them to keep the soil warmer....there are warming pads available, but I've also used a corning warming tray or an old electric blanket as long as it doesn't get too hot. Most heating pads get too hot even on low. Some folks in the past even used Christmas lights that get warm under their trays or under their shelves.
Same thing if you have planted them outside...no sun, not enough sun...the soil isn't warm enough yet. One way to check that...an el'cheapo thermometer...dig down about 4-6" and bury it. If it's not registering at least 50º, wait til the soil warms more.
One problem with no peach tree blooms..."might" be not enough chill hours over the winter to trigger the blooms. Each variety of peaches have different requirements for chill hours (hours below 45º for a certain length of time). If you know your variety...you can google to see what it requires.
If that Magnolia tree is a 'southern' Magnolia & not a pink one....a word of advice if you want to float a flower in the house....
Day 1, it smells up the whole house, Day 2, it's turning brown, Day 3, it's really brown. Day 4, it's a slimy, stinky mess so don't try to pick it up...take the whole dish outside to it....BTDT!

I have a mental picture of a fat and self-satisfied cat parked on top of what used to be seedlings. The Ixia that I planted last week still haven't broken though. I can't remember how long it took the last time I planted some. I'm sitting on every red cent this summer so the garden is going to have very few annuals. Sunpatiens? They aren't even at the garden center yet. Still have about $40 in Home Depot gift cards that will probably be used for maintenance products like fertilizer and fungicide. How boring.

They don't change colors to be uniform. it's really pretty looking when it's filled out with leaves.
