Governor Wolf (PA) essentially shut down my county for the next two weeks. Friday is a typical work from home day for me but today it feels like day 1 of my slow drift into insanity.

I just saw that Disney World is closing. I’m still an optimist, they are only closing through the end of the month and I’m going the second week of April, they could be open by then. I do have fully refundable plane tickets and hotel rooms, so I won’t be out anything if I stay home. They also just cancelled all schools in the state for at least three weeks. My wife now has four weeks of unplanned paid vacation (her spring break is the week the cancellation is supposed to end).

I thought you were close I'm not. We took the train, which was definitely more crowded than the museum.

Colorado has declared a state of emergency and many school districts are going to online classes. For my son (HS senior), it starts Monday. Week after next is spring break and they haven't yet said what they're doing after that.
My employer has probably curtailed travel, but I couldn't tell you to what degree because my position has never involved travel. I do know that some of their conferences have been converted to online, which also doesn't impact me. The one thing they're doing where I am is having everyone prepare to work from home - which has never been allowed for us peons.

Our governor finally bit the bullet and canceled all public schools until April. Not because she thinks it will stop the spread of the virus, but: "I have heard from superintendents, school board members, teachers, parents, and students that it has now become impossible to functionally operate schools due to workforce issues and student absences. Schools are experiencing critical shortages in staff, and superintendents are concerned for school personnel who are at elevated risk such as those over age 60 and those with underlying medical issues."

What part of the state are you in? Everyone out here in redneck land seems to think this is "just a cold" and has been blowing it off. However, I think they are starting to take it a bit more seriously from the current state of the toilet paper aisles...

So far just 3 cases here, but it's only a matter of time since all were community acquired.

Illinois and I think Indiana are "shutting down" for the next 2 weeks too.
It looks like the individual State Governors (and city Mayors) are doing what the Trump Administration wouldn't do - the right thing.
Why didn't the Trump Administration spear head this? Why didn't Trump talk about this on Wednesday IF the states doing this WAS part of bigger US Government plan? Why is Trump NOT a leader??

We were just instructed to not come into the office for the next three weeks. I have to come in next Tuesday for a few hours, but other than that we are basically locked out, in work from home mode only.
This feels really strange, but my company feels it’s the only way to keep the virus from spreading amongst those who have to come in (we literally keep the lights on, so we’re an essential public service). The belief is the risk is too great that one infected person could take the whole company down.

West Virginia has closed ALL public schools for an "undetermined amount of time".

PA has closed all schools for the next two weeks.
I'm surprised, as we have had no cases on this side of the state yet

Our gym is connected to a public high school, so it closed as of today and will be closed at least for the mandatory 3 weeks. My DH wanted to go join planet fitness to fill in the gaps (it is much closer to home, but no pool for the kids). I think I have him talked out of it. I feel we should try to stay home as much as possible to help the cause of flattening out the curve.

I’m in PA closer to middle and 2 had already closed based on potential exposure.
Am I right in understanding they don’t have to make these 2 weeks up ...

Thanks! I'm also very glad about the drive through food service... assuming the kids will have access.

Our schools decided to just extend spring break until Wednesday. They're going to use Monday and Tuesday to figure out a way to instill social distancing between the students at communal things like lunch and recess and to maybe consider staying shut down longer.

I just read that Apple is closing their stores for 2 weeks. I still can't get past Disney closing during spring break. I would bet money that some family will show up and feel like the Griswalds at Wally World.

I’m in Ohio. My kids school closed a day earlier than the mandate and wife and I are working from home Monday/Tuesday - and likely will continue if we don’t experience network issues from our entire offices working remotely. On Thursday I went to the grocery store to top off what we need for the next 30 days or so. We won’t be leaving our house or visiting with anyone. I’m an asthmatic and I don’t want to take the risk.
I think our state is being proactive and making decisions for the common good of all (even residents of other states) and they’ve been methodical in how they’ve instituted these orders. Daily press conferences in which the governor pleads for everyone to take caution then he gives a preview of the orders he will be signing in the next 24-36 hours. He’s prepared us to the point that I expect next week their will be an order to close daycare centers and mandate work from home for all office workers.
I just don’t think that most can comprehend the concept of exponential growth. What we see now is not what it’s going to look like a month from now. It’s a numbers game. I know all of us like numbers. Plug some of these numbers you’re reading about in an excel spreadsheet and multiply it by 2 every 6 days.
Not having testing is somewhat of a problem because we’re not able to quantify it to people to emphasize precaution and habit changes. But in reality with so many cases supposedly having mild symptoms the numbers we’re seeing now don’t really mean much because those asymptomatic or experiencing mild symptoms probably wouldn’t be going in for testing anyway. I think the medical professionals have a good idea of the numbers they will be dealing with. And that’s why we’re seeing the orders and mandates - it’s because there’s just no good way to quantify it to people.

I have a friend who teaches with one of the English in China services and she was talking to one of the moms and explaining what it was like here now and mom said... that’s about what it was like here a month before it got bad.
