DD's school just cancelled all out of state trips. She is supposed to have a field trip in two weeks to a play center (she's in kindergarten), not sure if that is still happening.
Our company has also cancelled all non-essential travel.
My brother is supposed to start WFH starting next Friday. He's a chemist - they told him to write papers and do research. Only problem is that his daycare is on-site at his place of work, so the kids will be at home with him, too.

Now, not only has our company stopped all travel to other sites, but today they have banned any customer visits from any location. We are officially in lockdown. Nobody comes in the door but employees and the contract cleaning/vending people. Two of our large clients put this in place last week. It seemed extreme at the time....maybe not so much now. We had a big event today in correlation with the Big 12 tournament (basically a big watch party at a nearby pub) that we canceled this morning.

My supervisor just cancelled a work trip I was supposed to take (flying cross country) the week of the 23rd. I was planning to cancel it myself but I held off hoping that work would eventually cancel it for me.

Just got word that a coworker in one of our customers buildings tested positive today. That customer was here last Friday...not sure if that particular coworker was though. I don't think so.

I'm scheduled to teach a class at my genealogy society next month. I contacted the chair of the Educ Dept (also a personal friend) and suggested that maybe I should video my presentation ahead of time so that if we need to cancel, we'd at least have the presentation available for the folks who've signed up.

So how many people do you all think aren't getting tested that could have the virus? I am currently at my company's headquarters and have come in contact with 3 people that all stated they were sick last week with a cough and a fever. They never went to the doctor, just assumed it wasn't the virus because they didn't get deathly ill.

So if that's the case, then maybe the percentage of "mild" cases is actually higher than they think/say?

So if that's the case, then maybe the percentage of "mild" cases is actually higher than they think/say? Yes. I've heard epidimediologists say there are probably twice as many infected people in WA as have tested positive. And those "mild" cases are infecting people, who then think they have a mild case of the flu and they, in turn, infect more. Only in some people, it's not "mild".

I was planning to cancel it myself but I held off hoping that work would eventually cancel it for me. My supervisor was supposed to come to our work site this week (he has been my supervisor for 9 months now and I have never met the man). We just had a department meeting in which we were told that we were needed to work from home as much as possible, followed by a couple of (bad) jokes. So I threw my own (bad) joke in by asking when I should start the coffee for his visit this week...

The BC Health Officer recommended that the World Curling Championship be cancelled. That happened about an hour ago. My dad is disappointed. At almost 90, this was his last chance to see it live. Don't know if unofficially adopted brother is still going to fly in to visit. CoVID19 is in Calgary now and his wife is a nurse so he may not want to risk having anything to pass on to my dad.
As far as I know, the dance competition is still on. It is all hinging on the adjudicators making it here tomorrow. As long as their flights aren't cancelled or they don't back out, it will be happening. There are enough studios in town to be able to run it even if none of the out of town studios make it.

I talked to the director who said that 4 people are out this week with the flu. So 3 were out last week and now 4 this week...I just don't know that people can tell the difference between the flu and the virus unless they have problems breathing and seek medical attention for it. ETA: I can see why whatever they have is spreading through their office. I have noticed a number of them rubbing their noses while sitting in this meeting.

The French president just closed ALL the schools (from daycare through university) until further notice.
As an adjunct obviously we are at the bottom of the totem pole for everything ... I signed up for a tutorial to teach online with Zoom. My tutorial is NEXT Friday, and I have classes Monday through Thursday.
I asked the head of Digital if he could either add or advance those webinars. Amazingly he responded yes, and said he'd be sending out more info tonight.
So I'm just sitting here hitting refresh.
I'm sure my students are all thrilled, and probably drunk at this point. Their teachers, not so much. ETA: I signed up for late tomorrow afternoon within seconds, hope I got in!!!

NHL, MLB, MLS, NBA, March Madness, and the Boston Marathon (although that hopes.to move to Sept) all cancelled or postponed today.
my boss reached out to the team to see who didnt already have a printer/scanner at home bc he is going to requisition some so we dont have to go in to the office at all. currently looking like we will be WFH through April. 😳

Not sure if Disneyworld will follow. Horrible time for the Disney parks to close as Spring break week, at least here, begins tomorrow. My county extended Spring break week an additional week because of the virus.

My state has banned groups of 250, but won't close the public schools. I guess there are reasons both pro and con, but a lot of parents are worried.

One k-12 district apparently just closed... had a child exposed. Another is talking about closing next week.

Our Governor just closed all the public schools in MD for the next two weeks, and encouraged private schools to follow suit. He has also banned public gatherings of more than 250. My husband had a meeting with our church council and they decided to close the private school run by our church to match the public schools.

The Dance Festival is postponed. They should have just said cancelled because I don't know when they'll have the time, space or adjudicators to run a 7 day event between now and the Provincials in June. Assuming the Provincials still happen.
So far DD is still expecting College to continue as usual but we'll see. She won't do very well as an online student, I think. Her and her dad already drive each other nuts because this semester all of her courses are late afternoon and night so she's home all day.
She also will be scrambling to pay for her expenses next month. With the Festival off, she won't have the chargeable time from running her dances. The Dance Studio was already going to be closed for 2 weeks because of Spring Break. Her after school dance program with the School District ended last week. Her other boss didn't need her this week and she booked off next week because of the Festival. Also if people are minimizing time out in public, they probably aren't going to go to a specialty store at the Mall.
On the plus side, unofficially adopted big brother made it here. He was on the highway when the Curling Championships were cancelled so he missed the news. He and DD will now be able to come to DSIL2's Birthday party on Saturday. He will probably drive home on Sunday.

I received a phone call on my way home last night from HR, inquiring about my husband's recent illness. (I had left work early on 2/28 to take him to the emergency room, where he tested positive for flu strain B and was treated for pneumonia, though the x-rays were uncertain.) They asked about his symptoms, diagnosis, tests, and if he was recovering. Also, if I have experienced any illness symptoms. They wanted to know if he had been tested for the coronavirus, and why he was not. I told them that would be a question for the hospital. She did admit that it was invasive, but she appreciated my honesty. I am hoping that they suggest that I WFH for a while.

I'm sorry about your son pulmonarymd but hopefully he'll be safe at home. I know you just took him there! Thanks. He actually was there since January 20, He was living with a lovely host family. His language skills were improving, and he was getting to know Spain. We planned a family vacation and just got home , so we were there when all this blew up. We got him home safe, thankfully. We and he are disappointed, as he was supposed to come home in June, but what can you do
