All of the new members who have come out of hiding should join us on networthiq. And the old members who haven't updated in two years should hop to! Add the tag "YM" to your profile. You will have to post two entries before you appear. www.networthiq.com/tag/YM/all

Funny, I was just reviewing my accounts for eoy 2010. I have an old networthiq login but haven't been there for ages. I'll have to go update it. Thanks for the reminder.

ok I signed up what are the 2 entries? Click on "add new entry" in your profile. You can input your data for any given month, so if you know it from prior months because you keep it elsewhere you can put in multiple entries. Or just put in your current data and then update it next month.

I hadn't been there for awhile, and last I looked my account was gone. Not going to go through the trouble again, if they deleted my old info.

I haven't posted in almost exactly a year. I'll start it back up real soon, though.

SVT,
sorry to hear that. With the market tearing it up over the past year, I would expect that most people have increased their net worth's over the past year.

The house will be sold and I'll start my new job with a 70% pay increase, all within a month. It's all good! : )

Yeah my account was deleted too. Oh well. Does that mean all your net worth has been wiped out?

I look at it and say it's whackadoodle. I have mortgage debt, but none of the gigantor student debt loads some folks are carrying. Of course with no degree, my income prospects are lower as well. Except maybe compared with the Greek lit degree LOL I still find it difficult to consider home equity as valid input to my net worth statement. Sure I could sell the place, but ya gotta live somewhere. Looking at that number makes me think I should be living like a queen. Hardly. I'm still scrimping and saving to get by. And, I have a roommate to make ends meet. So there ya go. It's whackadoodle. Don't let other people's numbers get ya down. Your own are the only ones that matter.

At the same time, you'd have to pay rent if you didn't own, so if you don't count the equity, you shouldn't count the mortgage.

I like to count my home equity in my net worth.
I like tracking the value of my mortgage and watching my net worth go up as I pay off my mortgage.
I also like tracking it to know if I sold my house, how long I could rent a place with the proceeds from the sale of the house. Granted, there would be other costs of selling, but I like it for the benchmark. ie, if I have $60k equity in my house and I could rent a place for $1k a month, I would be able to live for 5 years off the equity in my house.

if you don't count the equity, you shouldn't count the mortgage. Well in my case they just about cancel each other out. I guess that's a good thing.
