Update: Resolution 11/23/20 $34,300 (Goal: $35,000)I am still coasting to my goal with automatic deductions from my paycheck for the 457 plan. We have temporarily stopped all other savings due to buying a house. The asbestos removal started today and we hope to move in two weeks. We have a bid outstanding for some cement work in the outbuilding and will probably need to buy a bunch of random things that we don't know about yet. Account | Goal | Saved YTD | % of Goal

Hope everyone had a nice, quiet, safe Thanksgiving. I cooked the big meal and then DH and I made deliveries to my Mom and daughter. It was a beautiful day, nice enough for DH and I to eat out on the patio and we really enjoyed it.
Did a quick look at numbers this morning, and even though I haven't yet figured out if we saved any money this month, I see highest net worth due to this stock market. Need to really get a snapshot of spending the past couple of months and update my spreadsheets.
The nice weather also helped DH to get motivated to finish yard cleanup and put up some Christmas lights. We had been leaning toward less decorating the past few years, but now that there is a toddler grandchild who LOVES lights, well now we are putting up more, ha-ha.

Finally reached $5K. Now I'm trying to decide if I should continue to save for the rest of the year and start paying off my truck in January.

Only 2 more paychecks until the end of the year! I'm busting at the seams in terms of "extra" spending, but I think I'll at least make my savings goals for 2020.... and try to reel it in in early 2021.... Rukh O'Rorke [2] Multiyear EF Goal
$21,015.80 (Start=$500 / Goal=$20,000) EF at 21k. Kind of a paradox in 2020. I've managed to save about 50k all told this year, between EF, 401k, and HSA. Did 10k more than planned into the EF after having one large RI project billed. So very many negatives in 2020, trying to at least see the bright spots. I did finally contract out the first step of necessary home stuff, will be 2700 so that is a drag. Currently have about 5k sitting on credit cards, with about 4k needing to be paid mid Dec to avoid finance charges. Medical bills as well as the usual monthly bills/food shopping and some holiday splurging. Have about 2k in billing for RI this month, so waiting on that to come in. One last project for December expected. That will all really help get me back on track. But - more medical bills also expected to roll in in Dec with a small surgery for DD. Hoping that all goes smoothly for that! - and moneywise - can always take out of HSA if necessary, but I've been hoping to be able keep HSA as savings, and then as I get more built up, invest some of it for long term health care costs. Keep the faith everyone! On last month to make your goals.

For now we are fortunate to have our health and jobs, minimal expenses and the very intense desire to save so that we are prepared for no jobs, with a possible earlier retirement than planned. The world feels a bit bleak right now and sometimes I am having difficulty seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Grand-baby #3 is coming soon!

I missed my end of Oct/beginning of Nov update so here is November's numbers! I'm going to meet my goals. I have 2 more paychecks to put about $850 into that 403b! I really need to sit down and play with some numbers. I don't think I'll race the 403b again because that's automatic. I think I will track the Roth because I've been so lax on doing it over the years. I think I'm going to put a bigger goal on the general savings too. I hope everyone has been safe and healthy and that you continue to do what you can to avoid the 'Rona and any other illnesses.

Yikes, I thought I missed one month update -- no, it was 3 months!
Still chugging along. Due to changes at work, made some strategic changes to 403b contributions, redirecting most of those funds to my taxable account. I won't hit the 403b goal, but I don't have the energy to re-do my goals AGAIN.

I finally got to take a staycation last week. It was glorious! I just slept in and did much of nothing. I was really starting to get snappish and forgetful at work so the break was badly needed.
Everyone take care.

The last $1,000 in C's ROTH will go in at the end of this month. I don't expect I'll put the last $200 in general savings. We decided to indulge ourselves and buy a hot tub as a Christmas gift to ourselves. It won't arrive for another 4-5 months, but still have to pay for that now. Overall, very happy with what we managed to do savings wise this year, and am hoping that we'll be able to do close to the same next year, given my new job and raise.

Only 1 more paycheck to go and still on track to meet all 2020 savings goals!! Rukh O'Rorke [2] Multiyear EF Goal
$18,816.31 (Start=$500 / Goal=$20,000) used 2700 for tree trimming and removing a lot of extraneous trees (that I should have gotten myself at the sapling stage... ...definitely a personal stupid tax....or maybe....a I-was-in-grad-school-for-5-years surcharge....) But another 250 rolled in with the paycheck. Since this was a multiyear goal, and I still have more than what I wanted at end of 2020 (10500), I'm calling it a win..and still over 2 week left . But if I said I needed to also bank the regular student loan amounts not being paid..... [img alt=" " class="smile" src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png"]

Payday deposit of $961. Savings rate has slowed down as I'm not bothering to be as careful with spending in the craziness of the world right now. As I'm seeing online black friday deals, I'm buying things for our family and house. Likely also going overboard for kids Christmas as we're going to have to keep them busy thru this long winter. Waiting for the third bid for our flooring project. Found the luxury vinyl that we want for the basement. Trying to find one to match/coordinate with the upstairs hard wood. 1000 square feet of basement and 3 upstairs bedrooms. Likely cost $13k that comes from our overall savings. Just got our first direct bill property tax after refinancing and taking it out of escrow. We'll pay it ourselves when it comes, we said. Bill is $4700. Yowza! That will also come from savings. And, don't get me wrong, isn't unexpected but the timing right before Christmas along with the flooring bill is a triple whammy. Not escrowing is still the right choice for us. Plus refi put us at 2.5% interest rate and 15 yr repayment instead of 27 more yrs out of 30. Saves us $100k in interest and also means that I'm no longer pre-paying at all because our overall interest is $50k which I can live with. Dancing within $3800 of having $100,000 in liquid savings for the first time ever. Stinks not to at least kiss that goal but btwn flooring and taxes, buh bye for now. Will start fresh in 2021 and still overall pleased with our 2020 given that DH has been on unpaid leave and only netted $2100 this year instead of $25,000. 11/13/20 Azucena $24,402 of $30,000 goal (81%)Final update for the year. Feels a bit like confession time. We spent $12,000 on new floors and $5000 on property taxes this month. The flooring replaces carpet that we've hated since we moved in 3 years ago. This was pulled from savings, so we'll end the year right at 10,000 in savings. Looking at 2020 in the mirror, - we didn't know DH would only work in Jan, netting $1400 instead of $17,000 - we paid $14,000 cash for a used vehicle for DH after his bite the dust at 212k miles - we refinanced our mortgage to a 15yr at 2.5% saving 100k in interest and setting us up to pay it off 12 years faster - we skipped escrow, hence the tax hit just now which made us say what were we thinking but it was the right choice to cashflow given they were holding about $500 extra for us perpetually and we've proven that we can save for it - we prepaid a couple grand for spring break at the beach - maxed my 401k All in all, I can't complain about the position we're in even with this late savings hit. We were within $5k of reaching $100k in liquid savings - would have been nice to see that milestone. Will likely set the same $30k goal for next year as it did push us to save. 12/14/20 Azucena $10,000 of $30,000 goal (33%)

Nice to see the likes/support. I was a bit worried we'd overspent but my gut still says we made the right choices given the environment. All 3 bedroom floors are finished now and they make me smile when I enter instead of wincing about the yucky carpet.

Final update for 2020: I did not hit my $13,000 goal. But I did hit $10,000 total. Which is nothing to sneeze at.
I'm ok with this. I think if 2020 had been a normal year and I could traveled, I would have ended up even farther behind. I bought some things I didn't plan on (hello spin bike and other home exercise equipment!) and I bought some new furniture for our place to spruce if up a bit. But I managed to keep saving through all of this, which I'm counting in as a win. And we didn't increase our debt, which is another win.

Everything is still up in the air for me but I got close enough for the time being.
Work is wobbling so I am holding off on doing much of anything until after the new year.
Everyone has made steps even if they weren't huge they did make a difference.
Have a safe and reasonably healthy holiday season.

Update: Resolution 12/24/20 $35,500 (Goal: $35,000)I met all of my savings goals for the year, although I took a step backwards when I raided the brokerage account for a down payment on a house last month. I haven't figured out a plan for next year yet. I haven't received a full month of utility bills to see what the costs are, and there are a number of house projects on the horizon that don't have exact prices. Hopefully I will have the new goals figured out by the end of Jan. Thanks so much for organizing and running this thread. It has helped me to consistently stay on track throughout the year. Merry Christmas everyone. This is my last post of the year as I just got my last paycheck! When I look at my numbers, I have to admit that I'm proud of myself but I don't feel like I really stretched myself. I still haven't made the time to sit down and figure out my goals but I won't be racing my 403b again because that's automatic. I really want to work on bigger savings and my Roth IRA. I'll be 50 in 2021 so I can add $7000 to it. I have been bad about putting money in during the past years so that is really my #1 focus. I'm going to keep up with car savings but may not race it. I plan to do some work on my home (or paying someone to do it) and with how 2020 has been I don't think I can be too careful about the stability of my job and income. It's been great to be back in the group again. I was saving before but belonging to the group again just made me think about it and focus a little more. I hope you all are having a good Christmas, had a good Hanukkah, and that we all have a healthy and wealthy New Year!
