Happy 2020 everyone!
I have $3,000 saved for my property taxes from 2019 that I'll count toward this year's goal. I will add $350 from each monthly paycheck until it reaches $4,500. My plan is to remain aggressive with maxing out my retirement accounts and that will start with my first paycheck in January (it won't come until the end of the month). I added $1K that I have left from my December paycheck to my taxable investment account.
Happy saving everyone!

Resolution 01/02/20 $300 (Goal: $35,000) I would like to join this year. I am hoping that providing updates will motivate me to be more consistent. One issue that I have with scheduled savings is that DH's income fluctuates on a weekly basis, and we both may or may not receive annual bonuses. I am going to try to reach these goals without the bonuses, but not totally sure that I will make it. Account | Goal | Saved | % of Goal

I'm going to do the same thing as in 2019 and keep two savings buckets: one for planned spending and one for keeping. The one for keeping I'm planning on funding by weekly and monthly cash saving. Keeping | Savings Goal | Amt Saved | % Saved | Total | 1,500
Finnime1 $0 1/2/2020 (Goal 1,500)
| Savings Goal | Amt Saved | % Saved | Amt Spent | House | 10,000
| 0
| | | Travel/Vacation | 2,500 | 0 | | | Car | 2000 | 0 | | | Gifts/Misc | 4,000 | 0 | | | Total | 18,500 | 0 | | |
Finnime2 $0 1/2/2020 (Goal 18,500) I anticipate needing to spend even more on the house, but I'll start with the 10k. My DD is getting divorced and needs some help, so gifts/misc is higher than usual and likely to go even higher.

Okay, I think we finally have some financial savings goals set for 2020! 1. E.F. to $2,000. It took a big hit in 2019 (still thankful it was there) so it will be a rebuilding year. 2. DS1's savings to $2,200. This is funded by birthday/gifted money, piggy bank cash ins, and $100 we give each kid out of our tax return. 3. DS2's savings to $850.00. Again, this is funded by birthday/gifted money, piggy bank cash ins, and $100 we give each kid out of our tax return. 4. Start a vacation fund. 2020 Savings | START | CURRENT | GOAL | STILL NEED | Emergency Fund | $1,000.00 | $1,000.00 | $2,000.00 | $1,000.00 | DS1's Savings | $1,960.29 | $1,960.29 | $2,200.00 | 239.71 | DS2's Savings | $734.55 | $734.55 | $850.00 | 115.45 | TOTALS | 3,694.84 | 3,694.84 | 5,050.00 | 1,355.16 |
NikiZ628 1/2/20 $3,694.84 (Goal $7,300 WIRS2)

Hi all......feeling way behind here and not ready to update my goals yet. My BF's mom passed on Dec 22, we left for Iowa on Dec 23.....drove this time from WA. This presented its own challenges with the weather but both of us were off work until today, so we took the cheapest avenue versus buying plane tickets again. Unfortunately, we didn't make it back until late Saturday night and yesterday was a whirlwind of laundry etc. We still haven't even celebrated Christmas with the kids and opened presents. Thus the feeling of being behind. I transferred most everything out of savings and paid it on the credit card that was slowing building up with all the remodeling and traveling.....so I will be starting very low in the savings accounts and that worries me. Give me a few days and I will get my goals posted.
Happy New Year all! Teachermom

teachermom, to you and your BF. And remember that all savings is meant to be spent at some point or other, on something or other. Even retirement savings. So, please don't despair. Just appreciate the fact that you had the savings to spend during this difficult time. You can always set more modest goals for saving in 2020. At any point in 2020. Lots of Savers increase or decrease their goals throughout the year. If having your high multi-year goals gets you down and makes you wonder what is the point of trying to save, it's time to rethink your goals toward something more modest,

Intro: I am a teacher and mom of 3 grown boys (32, 30, 26) in WA state. My BF has 2 kids, boy and girl, 21 & 19 .....so basically all the kids are grown though the 26 and 21 live with us and the 19 with her mom. We are in the process of consolidating homes and getting mine ready to sell. It has been a lot of work and we still have a ways to go. Eventually the plan is to also sell his home and build/buy something smaller and more conducive to our future lifestyle and retirement. Looking forward to that as the house right now sits on an acre of grass & trees that needs to be mowed and taken care of. Ultimately, we would like to be debt free and retire in about 5 years. Right now finances are all separate so goals here are just mine.
Update: I think I have my goals set....at least to start out the year. I still have quite a bit of updates on my house to get it ready to sell, so that will be the focus first....then we will see. Savings 2020 | Fund | Goals | Beg Bal | Jan 2019 | YTD | Spent | End Bal | % Met | Emergency Fund | $25,000.00 | $1,000.74 | $0.00 | $1,000.74 | $0.00 | $1,000.74 | 4.00% | Vacations | $10,000.00 | $180.05 | $135.00 | $315.05 | $0.00 | $315.05 | 3.15% | Home Improvements | $8,000.00 | $8.17 | $200.00 | $208.17 | $0.00 | $208.17 | 2.60% | New Car | $25,000.00 | $10.66 | $0.00 | $10.66 | $0.00 | $10.66 | 0.04% | Car Maintenance | $3,000.00 | $0.81 | $50.00 | $50.81 | $0.00 | $50.81 | 1.69% | Gifts | $4,000.00 | $120.08 | $100.00 | $220.08 | $0.00 | $220.08 | 5.50% | Total Savings | $75,000.00 | $1,320.51 | $485.00 | $1,805.51 | $0.00 | $1,805.51 | 2.41%
Teachermom 1/7/2020 $1805.51 (1/1/2020 $1320.51, Goal $75,000)
Thanks for all your condolences....they are appreciated.

Here was my shout-out from Seriousthistime, for year end 2019...made me laugh out loud because DH bought his new to him vehicle on New Year's Day. He searched high and low for an almost new, low mileage vehicle, and they love to make deals at year end. Now I can make a realistic savings goal plan.
plugginaway22 Kudos to you as a back-to-back dancing banana winner, having scored in 2018 as well. Thank you for sharing your experiences. You set a good example of establishing a plan and carrying it through consistently which makes for stability now and with retirement on the horizon. Personally I am encouraged as I observe you calmly keeping your DH's new car wishes under control by just sort of kicking the can a bit down the road. My DH and I need some of that can kicking

Looking forward to a in the Household Fund with my next update. This update could have been better if I had not received a bill for my next insurance payment that has gone up A LOT! I set aside the funds for insurance with every paycheck which I don't track here, but I will be short for the March installment so I had to plump up that account and increase my regular deposits going forward. And WOW! I got a decent raise this year which will start with the next paycheck, but - I'm hoping to retire this summer so to max my 401(k) and catch-up contributions I have them spread out over 18 paychecks instead of 26,
- I increased my withholding for federal tax during the last few months of last year and I'm going to keep that number until I see how I come out for 2019 and estimate my 2020 tax situation if I do retire as expected, and
- It's a new year and my Social Security deduction ended during the last few months of last year because I exceeded the income limit and with the start of the new year they are back with a vengeance.
I was feeling comfortable before this paycheck. Suddenly I'm feeling a bit stressed. Maybe it's good to feel this way before retirement.

Finished 2019 with about $27,800 when my goal was $25,000. Part of the overage was the way paychecks fell at the end of the year.
I want to keep feeling the savings pinch so I'm increasing my 2020 goal to $30,000.
Paycheck savings of $1635.
Azucena 1/10/2020 $1,635 out of $30,000 (5%)

My first paycheck of the year means our first transfer to savings for the year. We need to get online and set up C's ROTH this weekend so that we can transfer money into that starting with my next paycheck.

OK, I finally went back to the 2019 thread and grabbed a table for 2020. also, I need to set up my tagline. what do I need, the overall goal? I forget what this all adds up to, did I have it listed last year? I can't remember. last week, I put a $20 bill in the jar. I pulled the 10 of diamonds to go with it. I'll have another update tomorrow Card | Spades (1x) | Diamonds (2x) | Hearts (3x) | Clubs (4x) | A | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 3 | 3 | 6 | 9 | 12 | 4 | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 | 5 | 5 | 10 | 15 | 20 | 6 | 6 | 12 | 18 | 24 | 7 | 7 | 14 | 21 | 28 | 8 | 8 | 16 | 24 | 32 | 9 | 9 | 18 | 27 | 36 | 10 | 10 | | 30 | 40 | Jack (11) | 11 | 22 | 33 | 44 | Queen (12) | 12 | 24 | 36 | 48 | King (13) | 13 | 26 | 39 | 52 |

Yes, you did have it listed last year. Your first post of the year said the goal was $910.

Finished 2019 with about $27,800 when my goal was $25,000. Part of the overage was the way paychecks fell at the end of the year.
I want to keep feeling the savings pinch so I'm increasing my 2020 goal to $30,000.
Paycheck savings of $1635.
Azucena 1/10/2020 $1,635 out of $30,000 (5%) wow! great end to 2019 and a great start in 2020!!

today's card was chosen by a cruise acquaintance. I had decluttered some swag from past trips by mailing them to other cruisers. one was nice enough to send me a card with half the postage included. so I added that $5 to the jar with the 5 of spades. this year seems easy so far, here's to keeping it up all year! Card | Spades (1x) | Diamonds (2x) | Hearts (3x) | Clubs (4x) | A | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 3 | 3 | 6 | 9 | 12 | 4 | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 | 5 | | 10 | 15 | 20 | 6 | 6 | 12 | 18 | 24 | 7 | 7 | 14 | 21 | 28 | 8 | 8 | 16 | 24 | 32 | 9 | 9 | 18 | 27 | 36 | 10 | 10 | | 30 | 40 | Jack (11) | 11 | 22 | 33 | 44 | Queen (12) | 12 | 24 | 36 | 48 | King (13) | 13 | 26 | 39 | 52 |

I am starting year 3 on this thread and OH how it has helped me to save! We are coasting toward retirement and we are in general stash mode, not really saving FOR anything, just building money for options. We both have precarious employment situations, making it hard to plan. We are both maxing our 401ks and his HSA.
Keeping it simple again, with a savings goal of $1000/month. DH bought a 2 year old vehicle, with 17k miles on it and a payment we plan to cash flow.
plugginaway22 1/11/20 $45,641 (goal $57,641)

Debthaven 11/01/2020 552 E (Savings goal=2000E) Debthaven 01/01/2020 8000 E (Saved savings, goal met) I just added last year's interest LOL. Financially, things are VERY up in the air here. The tenant from our Wonky Studio is leaving at the end of Jan. We will try to sell the studio, but if we can't get a decent price for it, we will need to buy furniture and household items so we can rent it as "furnished". DH will cover any costs we need to pay before we sell, to be reimbursed when (if?!) we do. I am so thankful to him that we have that option. Here in France, regular (unfurnished) apartments have a standard 3-year lease. Furnished apartments have a standard 1-year lease. We do NOT want to have to deal with 3-year leases anymore. So if we can't sell the studio, we'll need to furnish/equip it. Also, there was a misunderstanding at Job 2, and I lost another 15h of teaching. Happily I have already made 6/15 of those hours up by subbing. I'm hoping to make up the rest since the semester has barely started. I also wanted to mention that my pension (the equivalent of SS) is automatically taken out of my paychecks, so I don't track that. For better or worse, we've invested the rest in rental RE.
plugginaway22 your DH seems extremely patient! I hope he's enjoying his new car. :-)
