Anyone else watching? I've become obsessed with the show but scared to death to discuss it with anyone else. I'm very much aware of why I am watching the show (the three happiest years of my life were spent in West Africa) and that it is feeding a hunger that I did not know that I had. Unfortunately, this also means that I'd probably be watching the show even if it was quite bad.
I'd like to know what others think of the show. Does it make you cringe? Do you secretly love it? Do you watch it only to laugh at the Detroit-fails? (There seems to be one in every episode.) Do you tell people about loving it or hating it?
Let 'er rip.

I love that show! I watch it because it's really funny. I didn't know it was supposed to make me cringe. Is it supposed to be racist or something? Yes, it does stereotype, but don't all sit-coms do that? I don't know anything about "Detroit-fails".

While the show is nominally set in Detroit, every once in a while they get the little things comically wrong. That's what I mean by a Detroit-fail. I rather appreciate the fact that Abishola rides the bus. This reflects the astronomical cost of insuring a car in Detroit. Unfortunately, I suspect that the buses don't run nearly as often as the show portrays. Ergo: Detroit-fail.
On the other hand, the show does try get the physical landscape right and every once in a while one of the outdoor scenes really impresses me. The show has obviously gone to great expense to try to get the details right. The sheer ugliness of the exterior of the MaxDot factory would be a good example of this. The same could be said for the scenes that include snow. Snow has got to be insanely expensive to film.
As much as I love the show, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the first few episodes had a lot of jokes about bodily functions built into them. That's tamed down a bit, or at least gotten less gross. Most of the gas jokes are gone now and the pee jokes are kinda plot-driven and handled in a much more delicate manner.
There's a lot in the show that is easy to mock. That's definitely part of the reason that I am so shy about loving it.

Lol! I didn't even notice. As a nurse, that part of being human was part of my life for decades. Patients' gas and pee and poop stopped grossing me out a long time ago. It means they're still alive, and a normal part of recovery.

Yeah, all of those processes are natural and normal. It's the laugh track that's unnatural.

I watched the pilot. It was amusing and well written, however, it made me uncomfortable.
Bob is technically a stalker.

I encourage you to keep watching streaming. The pilot is rocky. If I had my way, nobody interested in the series would be able to see the pilot or would somehow be induced to watch further episodes..
I really can't argue with you that bribing a coworker to cough up the home address of a coworker is really unromantic/illegal/sick and wrong.
OTOH, I don't think that Gloria did this for the $100 (half of which she gave back to Abishola). She was probably very aware that Abishola lived with her auntie and uncle and that giving Bob the address probably exposed him to much more risk than Abishola navigated on a pretty much daily basis.
The series will grow on you if you let it.

I really like this show. I miss Mike & Molly and this seems like a good fit for Billy Gardell. I hope it gets renewed by CBS.
