I have resolved to do the Pagan Lent for the 15th year. That means Jan. 2 to Feb. 13 abstaining from alcohol, desserts/chocolate, butter, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes. This also includes riding the Exercycle at least 30 minutes a day and lifting weights for 15 minutes a day.

I'm hoping to finish this year with a pile of cash in my bank account instead of my house.
Assuming that happens, my goals this year are:
Move into a new house and start fixing it up.
Spend at least half of the year out in nature rockhounding for cutting material for my business, rehabbing my injury, and losing the 40 pounds I put back on.
By the end of the year I'd like my art and lapidary businesses to be profitable and well-stocked up for the 2020 holiday season.
I also plan to have some private writing clients and finally leave my current low-paying writing job behind me.

I did not make any resolutions last year. I do have some resolutions for this new year, but I have also learned to accept that life throws us curve balls. If I don't meet my goals due to curve balls, then that's okay. If I don't meet them because I just stopped trying, that is not okay.
Financial Open a ROTH IRA for C Start investing outside of retirement funds New job
Health Get back on a weight loss trajectory
Personal Finish my novella Start blogging on a regular basis again

I need to get healthy in 2020. I've been drinking way too many martinis and eating whatever I want. My mom is having major health issues because of not taking care of herself and I do not want to follow. The good news is that this hasn't been a 20 year lifestyle so hopefully the damage is minimal. The bad news is that it has become my new norm so it isn't going to be easy.

I usually think on this between Christmas and New Years; 2020 seems like a good year to start the decade off right!

Mine are a lot more simple than Rukh's. - Have the kitchen cabinets painted.
- Continue decluttering. Make a second and third go-round if necessar y.
- Be more social and active. Go to the rec center or join Silver Sneakers. Find a church I like and go regularly. Try out the senior center to see what kind of activities they have.
- Be more involved with my kids' kids.
I'm having the kitchen cabinets painted in January. In anticipation, I located the rest of the handles and hinges from where I started switching these out . . . seven years ago. In my defense, I couldn't reach the hinges above the refrigerator or get to the two decorative handles underneath the sink. That doesn't explain the rest of the hinges that I skipped. Lol. Fortunately, I have plenty of handles and hinges left.

I'm not making resolutions, and I'd rather call them New Year Goals. Some are simple, others are just nuisance ideas:
Make bed everyday (no more throwing up the cover) Keep the closet clean and organized NO clothes piling up on the closet floor Eat what I have in the house, no more grabbing something on way home NO MORE crying. Time to start being an adult and "get over it" Be careful with Apple watch and phone since canceled insurance Keep my waste baskets empty Save as much as possible. (maybe I need to join WIR) NO MORE shopping @ QVC

Resolutions Use the quadrant management system and refine my use of the seven habits. I'm good at some of them, but I don't utilize all of them. --Plan each night the upcoming day. Set aside time in my evening routine to make that happen. --Create and maintain healthy eating habits --Find something to do with my life that is outside of work and parentingGoals --Lose 20 more pounds (have lost 10 pounds in the previous six weeks) --Start paying parent plus loan for DD#1 --Continue with only cash for DD#2's college (avoid taking out loans) --Pay $14K toward camping trailer (minimum required payment totals $5,200 annually) --get into a doctoral program for educational leadership | start program in Fall2020 --read 40 books (this was a 2019 goal, but I only reached 32 books) --Take one weekend per month for "getting away" (This was a goal in 2018. In 2019 my health issues prevented most traveling.)

When we summered in St Sauveur des Monts, we used a trap baited with bread. Caught hundreds that way. I think we ate them all, because I don't see ANY crayfish in the Laurentians any more.

We have a lot of traps and leaded line and floats and used to get them often but don't know places near his new house. I soaked a trap in his river and got nothing. I will try down river or lakes and creeks until I find some. His neighbor went fishing/crabbing today and brought us Dungeness crab, I should ask him if he knows where to get crayfish since he is that kind of person.

We just wade in with a net and scoop them up in the shallow areas. Way more fun than waiting on the traps to work! Also, some of our grocery stores carry them in the frozen seafood section. Maybe check your local stores?

Improve physical fitness--started weight training already
Remodel kitchen--already chose a design and made a down payment for the cabinets.
Start master's--this has been on the back-burner for a few years.
Declutter (still)--have been working on this one for years, but still have a long way to go.
Otherwise, I'm in survival mode, but the above will improve current issues I have.
Would like to do, but not pressing--practice my instruments, read some books (get back into fiction!)
Limit: playing games on phone, alcohol and carb intake, yelling at the kids (started earlier this year)

I've been thinking about this a little bit today and will come up with a list before Wednesday. The next two (maybe 3) years are going to be so hard that I think goals that serve my mental health are going to be a lot more important than financial ones just so I get through. I have such a hard time making those kind though!
I have some basic financial ones.
- Hoping to gross 50K again (means 10K of OT and bonuses) - Maxing HSA - 401K just to the amount that AGI is less than 26K. No overdoing it! If I gross 50K that means about 15K to 401K.
The rest I'll stew on . I need to make things like "get my damn overcluttered house in order" into something measureable and attainable.

2019 was not so good for my health resolutions. In 2018 I lost 30 pounds, established a lot of healthy habits, and by mid 2019 they were gone. I ended the year up 45 pounds. Highest of my life.
I think my focus this year is going to be on actions, and not results. If I say I'll do x minutes of this or that each day, plan my breakfast and lunch 5 days a week, and that sort of thing then I'll be doing the things to get to the results. Theses will be my minimum baselines, so then at some point later next year when habits are reestablished I can feel free to do more.

I need an entire life overhaul and trying to fit it all into new years resolutions probably isn't the answer, but you have to start somewhere--right? I keep thinking I'll get around to thinking about things but conveniently manage to avoid it. So maybe tomorrow night will be my time.
Some random thoughts I need to put into actionable plans...
- Read more books and less internet. - Journal - Stick to meal plan. Get the kids and I on a 50% of our plates are fruits and veggies and have a 7 day a week dinner planned and prepped. - Keep up with jiu jitsu. Add in boxing. Get 300 minutes of aerobic exercise a week. - Continue practicing cello -- maybe I can play the star wars them by the end of the year. - Get control of finances and stick to a budget. Save for pesky things like appliance replacements. Planning a real vacation would be amazing. - Figure out school plan. Am I going back, if so for what, where, and with what money. If not, why not and what's my plan. - Stop avoiding my marriage. Blech. In some ways this should go to the top of my list, but that's not happening. - Get re-licensed for my job.

Right at the top, quit wasting money, I just buy whatever I want, need to do less of that. That is at the top, restraint in spending.
Get our hardwood floors in this year. Finish painting DD's room, bath, and my office. That finishes the upstairs. Put in backsplash in kitchen, might take about a week, have material purchased. Help hubs get the rental finished and buy no more that need that much work, get it on the market this spring or summer. It definitely will be, he is getting there.
Sell motorhome, hard for me to do, will fight myself for that one, sigh. Let son have one or both boats if he wants them or sell Sell hubs old truck. This will reduce fixed expenses, also we found we can travel cheaper in a car or truck.
Continue working on weight loss, I will settle for 20 pounds more off this year. Continue on working on eating better, doing good, but could improve more. It's not going to fix the cholesterol, but might help keep it under control.
I am still planning on a garden this summer, not giving it up till I can't walk to garden, LOL!
Sew more, I already read stacks of books.
Be nicer to hubs and try to be better to DD too.
Declutter, that is a continual process, but I have gotten rid of about all the clothes I want to go at least for now, have a sack of jams of DD's. Neaten food storage, I did go through a month or so ago and purge stuff, wasn't bad.

I still haven't come up with much besides the financial ones and reading. I put the check boxes chart on my fridge to hopefully check off 12 books for 2020. I know that isn't much compared to some here, but it will be 9 more than I read in 2019.
Work does this wellness check every year with 9 factors and then assign a "high", "moderate" or "low" risk to each. Thankfully, I have no high risk ones, but this year I have FIVE in the moderate, up from ONE last year and one that is flirting with high risk. I would like to end 2020 with a better report from work and move at least two of those moderates down to low risk...somehow. I need a plan for that though.
