Having coffee, then getting started on the pies.
I bought a small pie pumpkin, but also a can of organic pumpkin puree - I think I'm feeling lazy.
Beyond meat let me down, no chicken strips!! What the Fruit??
Also - there were no french fried onions, not for ready money! A small horde of customers were asking, what I disappoingment, I do hate to make my own! Not difficult but pretty messy!
I'm trying to scale back overall - our menu is
Roasted vegetables (butternut, parsnips, brussel sprouts, leeks, cauliflower) Dressing mashed potatoes green bean casserole creamed spinach mushroom gravy There's vegan roast from trader joes for those who eat gluten - picked up this gardien stuff for the GF but it is not good (samples last night!), very upset with beyond meat! I may as well do tofu. May be doing that scallion celery salad as a side, maybe a green salad. Whole foods had non infected romaine, got 2 of those, but didn't get the pomegranate to make my pomegranate vinaigrette. Nor much to put on the lettuce either. Could do candied walnuts, that's a start. Wish I'd bought the pomegranate.
doing apple and pumpkin pies with whipped coco topping from sodelicious. Pretty good, but the light version is horrendous!
For nibbling: Spinach dip with crackers and crudites.
What are you cooking? When do you start?
My kitchen has been super clean for a few days, specifically deep cleaning for the holidays. Now that it's time, I do hate to start and mess it all up!

Going to SIL tomorrow. I am in charge of rolls, spinach dip w/veggies and pumpernickel bread and drinks. Already went to the grocery store this morning and was able to get everything except the Raspberry Vodka. Liquor store doesn't open until 10:00. We celebrated Thanksgiving with my family this past Sunday. I cooked almost everything.

My kitchen is a horrid mess at the moment and needs to be shoveled out before beginning T-day prep. We will be having a generic Thanksgiving day meal. Turkey Stuffing Mashed Potatoes and gravy Canned Cranberry Sauce - DD loves this stuff and says it isn't Thanksgiving if we don't have it, whatever. Asparagus Green Bean Casserole - if DD has all the ingredients. They shut down all the schools in her town this week due to norovirus. She said she said if she didn't have all the ingredients on hand she wouldn't go to the store and risk bringing Norovirus home. Again whatever. Rolls Orange Jello with Mandarin oranges in it. Pumpkin Pie - which Mom will be making. I would rather have Lemon meringue pie but then Mom would leave most of it at my house and I don't need to eat a whole pie.
We will be having a small group this year, just 6 people, and two of them are aged 2 and under. Right now I don't care if we have Thanksgiving or not but it is at my house so I will get it pulled together and get it on the table. Guess I should get the giblets/neck pulled out of the turkey and start making some stock.

absolutely nothing traditionally Thanksgiving. oh wait, I'm making a cheesecake today because I want one. I'm doing an Italian red sauce spread tomorrow morning, so I only have to cook once this weekend while my kitchen gets painted. we can sneak in and reheat via microwave without creating too much of a mess. as far as Thursday, it's basically going to be "help yourself at your leisure" as I've invited a few friends that weren't going anywhere to come by for the day. I have a bunch of stuff to do, but football will be on, food is tasty, and there's plenty of wine! currently planned: vegetable lasagna meatballs chicken cutlets/parmigiana eggplant parmigiana grilled chicken Caesar salad

I also made pumpkin pie, coconut cream pie, and chocolate cream pie. Seems excessive for 6 people, but everyone likes something different and leftovers are always great! Last year my daughters were vegan (DD1) and vegetarian (DD2) for a holidays so I am SO glad they decided to go back to eating some meat because I had to cook two of most things last year (vegan turkey, vegan mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes, vegan pies, etc).

I bought a turkey roll made with a pastry from trader Joe's. Its thawing now. I have 2 bottles of cranberry wine for it and a bit of homemade cranberry sauce. That's it. Because that is all I want to cook in my tiny rv 😁 I did buy my mother some 6 inch pie plates. She loves them as she can't eat a whole pie either and she loves a variety.

We are going out of town and will be in an airbnb. So, I ordered
Prime rib (my family doesn't like turkey) Stuffing Mashed potatoes Cranberry sauce Glazed carrots Rolls Pumpkin pie
I will also make
Green beans Cole slaw or salad or something fresh and cold Sweet potato pave (I have never made it before, so I will let you know if it is good) Apple pie or an apple galette (I don't know if we will have a pie pan) Pumpkin cookies Apple caramel cookies Candied nuts
That should hold us. I already made mac and cheese for tonight, and breakfast burritos for the weekend.

I need to dig up a recipe for stuffing. We've been unhappy with the GF stuffing from the store the last few years. Tonight I will be cubing and toasting the GF bread I bought. And I think I'm going to start on the desserts. I'm not completely sure what desserts I'm doing but they're going to involve canned pumpkin in some form or other... DH brought home the turkey yesterday. It'll go in the turkey roaster (nesco) with ghee and whatever seasonings sound like a good idea at the time.
Mashed potatoes, gravy, a veggie and rolls will round out the meal. DH wants to do something with brussel spouts.

I don't host for the holidays. A local co-worker and her extended family adopted me 25 years ago. While the co-worker passed away last year from cancer, I'm still considered family. So I go to their homes for holiday meals.
As their daughter would be out of the country for Thanksgiving this year, the hosts' T'day meal was held a week ago this past Sunday. I brought a couple spinach casseroles. It was a hit.
We are all going out for dinner tomorrow evening.

Pretty much the same thing we have every holiday that the family eats together (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthdays) with a few exceptions:
Turkey - no stuffing because it's gross Ham - for some reason for all holidays we have turkey and ham both Mashed potatoes with chicken & noodles on top Deviled Eggs Corn Rolls Green bean casserole which is Thanksgiving only
At my in-laws on Friday (it's always Friday for their place) we always have steak and crab from the grill with some random sides that my MIL felt like making. As happens every year, I will be convinced that crab is really good (they are HUGE crab legs which would be amazing if I liked crab more) and that I should give it another try. I will spend 10 minutes cracking and obtaining approximately a nickel-sized piece of crab which is delicious, but realize that the work is not worth what I get from it, and that crab is simply a vehicle for butter. I'll throw some butter on my potatoes or steak and proclaim butter victory and mock everyone else for putting in such hard crab-cracking work simply to obtain the butter in the bowls already in front of them.

I picked up rolls this morning from a local bakery.
I need to make mini pumpkin cheesecakes. Someone else is making pumpkin and pecan pies.
Cranberry salad/relish whatever was purchased at the deli.
I'm helping my grandma with green beans and sweet potatoes.
My aunt/uncle are making Turkey and mashed potatoes.
I might try to do noodles. I've been thinking about it and hoops post made me want them more.

We're going to my daughter's MIL house tomorrow. We will be taking cornbread stuffing (because DH must have the cornbread version), and old family recipe for a pineapple marshmallow salad, pumpkin cheesecake (a Paul Dean recipe that is always a big hit) and 5 or 6 bottles of wine.

This is actually how I feel about lobster. Yummy but not worth the effort to get it out of the shell. Now if someone ELSE is getting it out of the shell, I will happily eat it.

It's probably because I just destroy the crab legs getting the meat out.

On coastal Connecticut, there is a seasonal restaurant called the Nordic Lodge. It is a seafood, all-you-can-eat buffet, including fresh lobster. Myself and a few co-workers went there for dinner one time in the mid-80s. We went for the lobster. We focused only on the claws and the tail. Countless lobsters were devoured. Individual price for adults back then was $27. Well worth it. Every now and then, I check their webpage to see what the current price for adults is today. Last time I checked (a couple years ago) the going rate for adults was $97. Not a place one would dine on a regular basis, but a treat every couple of years.

Only 3 of us so trying not to overdo it. 13 lb turkey is smallest I could find. DS likes the legs so couldn’t do a turkey breast.
Turkey Cornbread dressing and gravy (see below) Mashed potatoes Roasted butternut squash Green beans (not casserole) Apple pie (gift from realtor) Sweet potato pie Walnut pie (maybe)
Thanksgiving is only time that I allow cream of *** cans in my house. DH uses it for his family recipe, southern style “gravy” that goes on cornbread stuffing. It is cream of mushroom, cream of chicken and chicken broth.

oooh - another one I forgot is the sweet potatoes! We just do baked, so not a lot of work. But.....My list is getting longer.... pie dough chilling, made some fresh cinnamon rolls to keep people away from the pies

I've had good luck with the N-R-gy brand classic white with tapioca for making dressing.

Sometimes I see them listed as in Connecticut and sometimes in RI. Just checked their webpage: current price for adults is $103.

$103 is nuts, especially for me knowing I can't even touch the seafood.
and the location changing, that's just bizarre lol... I also thought it was down toward Narragansett, which isn't all that close to CT, so I was way off. I knew it was south of Providence, at least.

We’re going to SIL’s and I’m bringing ham and pumpkin pie. They’re making two turkeys, one roasted and one fried, mashed potatoes with gravy, Mac and cheese, sweet potato, green bean casserole, rolls and a few other desserts. There will be at least 30 people there, so we’ll need all that food. Probably will go home with the turkey bones for soup and the ham bone for DD to make pea soup.
