Can you download a Kindle book onto a PC or tablet, or does it have to be downloaded to an actual Kindle?

You can download it to the Kindle app. I have several ebooks on my Kindle app on my iPhone and iPad. I do have a Kindle Fire but I haven’t used it in several years.

I have the kindle app downloaded on both my iPad and iPhone. I also have some “app” or something so I can read on my laptop. It was super easy to figure that out through amazon/kindle. I have a kindle, but I’m more likely to read on my iPad. The kindle really is only for sitting in the sun and reading.

You can download the Kindle app onto almost any device. Just remember that for devices that might not have internet access when you want to use them, you will need to make sure the books you might want to read on the various devices are loaded onto those devices (you do that on the Amazon website). For devices that have internet access, you can access your Amazon account and get the books from there to read on the app.

Ya, what they said.
You can read Kindle books on any device that has a kindle app (I read on my Kindle Paperwhite, my iPad, and my Samsung Galaxy S9).
For travels, i just download a book to make sure i can read it without WiFi.

As everyone else has said, you can download the books to anything that can run a Kindle app.
For long stretches of reading I sill prefer my actual Kindle. A nice feature is that the books will sync across devices. So, while I may prefer reading on my Kindle, I can still read on my phone in a pinch if I'm without it, and as long as I'm connected to the internet, the book will sync to my last page read. As someone with more devices than any one person needs, its a nice feature.

I have been using the library apps Overdrive/Libby to download digital content books in kindle format, and MP3 books. I keep telling myself to discontinue my Audible and Kindle Unlimited Memberships, but I have not yet done it. Audible is better than Kindle unlimited. Maybe it will be a New Year's Resolution.

I just download everything onto my Kindle when I charge it up, then I put it into airplane mode. Leaving WiFi on eats battery up much faster. I only had to recharge my Kindle once on vacation......and that was only because I wanted to get on my return flight with a full charge. I think I was still at around 30% after 3+ weeks.
I bought a few books before I got my Kindle to read on my iPad, but really don’t like reading books on it.
