I like what you did showing past year’s NW, azucena! I’m going to try to remember to do something similar when I update later this weekend.

I bonds aren't updated yet, but close enough. It ended up being a good year! 2024 is going to be a little rough on the NW with the house maintenance, paying off DS's student loans and Carrot moving to high school (higher tuition) but I'll just keep chugging along.

Of course, as I started selling securities to put into cash the market very quickly bouces back up to nearly the ATH.......so losing a bit of growth there as some were sold for middling gains to losses..... You are all welcome ! Still got in mostly on the upswing as am over 80% stocks. But a few of those sales giving me some heartburn and food for thought! But just a hair over where I was in August - And I think those 11k can be attributed to new contriutions! May we all have very lucrative investment returns for 2024!!!! ETA: ibond interest

lol - talking aout that cash I went to check if the end of month interest had been added yet, and it had! But then mutual funds posts losses after business hours and cancelled the cash interest gains, and then some more!
Just a few hundred extra, but still!

So - all brokerages posted the interest, but not the ibonds!!
I will need to convert the paper ones I have to get the interest numbers off of them. I know you can do it somewhere but don't want to bother with all that, but by now they likely have several months of interest accruing. Think the purchase was in June of 2023.

Checking and savings accounts 64,000 Jointly held brokerage accounts, diversified but weighted toward stocks 229,000
IRA-DH's and mine, diversified but weighted towards stocks 344,000
House - mortgage free 275,000
Cars 40,000
No debt except CC's paid monthly
Total 952,000
I never look at this number, but thought I would this time. It appears oddly low for our lifestyle, but that reflects DH's pension which has no cash value, yet yields low six-figures annually.
I think 2024 will be a heavy expense year and we will draw down the cash to the tune of $30,000+ for sewer repairs.

Thanks for adding your numbers CG and Soup. Interesting to see the retirement perspective.
Soup - mind me asking what type of work DH did to earn such a high pension?

Thanks for adding your numbers CG and Soup. Interesting to see the retirement perspective. Soup - mind me asking what type of work DH did to earn such a high pension? He was a registered civil and traffic engineer who served as department director or assistant director for a total of 36 years in three different cities. He headed up various functions including engineering, street maintenance, permitting, water and sewer, solid waste disposal, and traffic engineering. The pay was less than stellar, but provided access to a very solid pension system currently covering over 900 Texas cities. The system has been nationally recognized for its quality. He contributed between 5 and 7 percent of his gross salary. ETA: The irony is that we lived pretty slim during our working years, and our retirement income is greater than our salaries ever were

Here is my December 2023 update:
ASSETS: Checking/Savings: $226,995 House: $512,700 Retirement: $2,088,809 Brokerage: $73,220 529s: $109,892
DEBTS: $0
Total NW: $3,011,616
As usual, the list above excludes our cars, which are worth around $30k combined, but I leave them out because we're unlikely to sell, and need them to get to/from work, kids schools, etc. in the land of suburbia.
We're up nearly 5% this month, and DH is (for now) in the 2 comma club in his 401k. I've been chasing $3M for a couple of years now, so it is fun to see that milestone, even if it ends up being only temporary.

Hubs only has a small pension of $300 a month, I never contributed to one. You sure don't have to save as much if you have good ones. At least our son is going to, he is a GS13, step 9. So he will have SS and a pension and I believe insurance coverage too.
Folks here are really doing well and I think that is great.

Yes, I started investing in I-bonds due to my well documented cash hoarding problem. At least I could tell myself the I bond money wasn't eroding from inflation.
Annnndddd I see that we've added another $75,000 in cash this year. New Years resolution is that all of DH's bonus and RSUs this year are going straight into the investment account. If I'm feeling brave enough, I might top that off out of savings to be able to invest an extra $10,000 a month.
Jan-24 $2,890,000 Jan-23 $2,355,000 Jan-22 $2,450,000 Jan-21 $2,050,000 Jan-20 $1,660,000 Jan-19 $1,335,000 Jan-18 $1,300,000 Jan-17 $1,110,000 (lost a file with some data) Jun-14 $775,000 Jan-13 $640,000 Jan-12 $570,000 Jan-11 $530,000

Alicia - mind me asking your ages and if you have any kids?
I've begun hoarding cash too and been meaning to post a thread about where to put it and next steps for wealth building.
