This printing everything out in a notebook thing is a good idea. I have always had a notebook of passwords to all accounts BUT, now that most financial places are requiring the authentication code...how would survivors even get into our cell phones to retrieve codes to access accounts? Haha, all becoming complicated.

I have a sealed envelope for my executor with passwords, etc. On the envelope it says DO NOT TURN OFF PHONE.
Once he gets into the accounts, he can turn it off.
I know as soon as the credit union learns a member has died, they turn off online access.

Following the recent establishment of our trust, we consolidated our banking so we now have one savings and one checking account. We have 2 joint brokerage accounts, and one IRA brokerage account each. I do need to write a small epistle to add to our trust document binder that points out some exceptionally valuable items that our executor might overlook, like the silver flatware. Most folks assume tableware is silver plate. This is vintage sterling and worth a lot to a collector. Ditto platinum being mistaken for white gold by amateurs.

Most folks assume tableware is silver plate. This is vintage sterling and worth a lot to a collector. Ditto platinum being mistaken for white gold by amateurs. One of the best services the estate practice that handles my trust provided was nagging me to give them all my account information so they could have title for all the accounts transferred to the trust. I probably would have procrastinated without their regular reminders. Now it's all recorded in the trust and the trust documents specify the executor, and the estate practice will intervene if there is a snag in sorting it all out, so that was a real relief. That is a good point about making specific mention of items like silver flatware. I inherited 2 sets of sterling flatware that should probably be accounted for or at least mentioned as items of value. My cousin who is executor would probably figure it out, but why take chances.

My attorney told me to make a list of things I wanted to go to specific people and items of value.
When it came to dividing up my parents' things, my sister kept saying mom said one of her kids could have that. It wasn't in writing and it was pretty much everything I wanted. So I told her it isn't in writing.

Here is my November 2022 update:
ASSETS: Checking/Savings: $219,974 House: $512,700 Retirement: $1,613,018 Brokerage: $34,445 529s: $74,097
DEBTS: $0
Total NW: $2,454,244
As usual, the list above excludes our cars, which are worth around $30k combined, but I leave them out because we're unlikely to sell, and need them to get to/from work, kids schools, etc. in the land of suburbia.
Yay for still moving in a positive direction!

Here is my December 2022 update:
ASSETS: Checking/Savings: $217,790 House: $512,700 Retirement: $1,573,983 Brokerage: $37,483 529s: $68,454
DEBTS: $0

As usual, the list above excludes our cars, which are worth around $30k combined, but I leave them out because we're unlikely to sell, and need them to get to/from work, kids schools, etc. in the land of suburbia.
And back to moving in a negative direction - down a bit less than 2%.
Ditto everyone else who is ready to say by to a crappy stock market year in 2022. At the end of 2021, we were at $2,877.989, so we're down about 16% since the end of 2021. And that's after maxing out 401ks for DH and me, backdoor Roth IRAs for each of us, funding each of the kids' 529 accounts up to what we can deduct on our state income tax, and paying a giant 2021 tax bill. Fun.
On the positive side, I also took advice from this group and made sure we lived some, so we took some awesome (to us) vacations with our kids in 2022. Hoping they remember Grand Canyon/Saguaro/Petrified Forest and Yellowstone/Grand Teton trips as fun and memorable, plus Disney World. Cheers to 2023 and the adventures it brings!

Welp a super sobering update for me!! Thankfully I am holding on to millionaire status, by the skin of my tiny little teeth. Thems the breaks..... Word on the street is increased market losses in 2023, so I am resigning myself to lossing my double comma status in the new year. It will hurt, but obviously I'm not retiring soon as I had thought at the bright shining outset of 2022. Just checked my spreadsheet....I was at 2,030,194 at the start of the year, so I am at a 48% loss. Just needed a 20-25% increase from there to retire.....instead I got the beat down of nearly being halved...... I think I'm the biggest loser! Do I get a prize Let's see what 2023 brings, whatever it is I will try to roll with it with patience and grace.

Last year 1/2/2022
Roth $185,622.60
TIRA $38,960.19
457 $168,029.01
Taxable $68,634.09
Total $461,245.89
This year 1/4/2023
Roth $162,869.56
TIRA $33,975.03
457 $160,049.50
Taxable $56,660.73
Total $413,554.82
Difference: -$17,691.07 Contributions: $25,500 (457 and Roth)
I can't afford to max the 457 anymore, and I'm not retiring anytime soon so it doesn't really matter, but it hasn't been fun throwing money into a hole this year.

Tesla coming back a bit, and an overall good month in the market. Up about 25% since start of year. I think I may have dropped below the 1m mark sometime through the month, but I didn't look! so we can say it never happened! There is no evidence......

wow! I thought I was letting the team down by not reporting out yesterday, so I hurriedly got together my numbers before it got too far from the first and come here for a lamo update and hahahah! Only one update!
I am up some small change, about 0.4% TLA going from 1,306k to 1,311k, so I was feeling no need to trot out my tables for this. Everything is kinda sorta the same - some up a few dollars others down, etc.
Carry on, citizens!

Did I miss something on this thread? Who has a brother who isn't helping? It was a response to jenpen that appears to have deleted the post. Sorry about that. I'm usually annoyed when people delete posts, but yes, I did post about the personally -- not financially -- devastating year I'd had, but then realized I wasn't comfortable putting that out here. Extremely grateful for TheOtherMe's words of support.
