I was able to get all the eggs back in the carton intact. And the thing I was most proud of for the whole day.
Oh, giramomma. I feel this so hard. It won't last forever! Firebird - Welcome back. Sorry to derail your thread with my complaining. I hope you do foster care. I have always wanted to do this for older kids since there's such a need and little kids are not my jam. I don't think my husband would go for it though.
No need to apologize! I would like to take in an older kid too but we'll see. DH needs a different work schedule and a job he likes better before we could even consider it, though. Things are pretty bananacrackers at the moment. I'm starting to get a slightly panicky feeling every time Monday rolls around. Hey FB... DD is about to turn 3 in January and after thinking/discussing it to death, we have decided to start trying for #2 at the beginning of next year. DD is in nursery school (she is loving it), and gymnastic / ballet on the weekend. Part of us wish we tried for #2 sooner but part of us think we will be thankful for the age gap (depends on how things work out there will be a ~4 year age gap in between them).
Aww DD sounds adorable. Good luck with her little sister/brother! We've tried for a second kid two or three times but it's never happened and I'm starting to be okay with that. It'll all work out for the best in the end. So glad your niece is with you!!! Hope she and babybird are the bestest sisters!!
They get along well enough, but the age gap is too large for them to be really close - at least right now. For the time being, it's enough for me that they treat each other with kindness and respect. DN is always great about helping out with Babybird when I ask her to (probably because I almost never ask) and when they don't have school the next day, DN will let her stay in her room so they can watch movies together. It's really sweet. I finished my phd last year and got a new job with big salary bump, director title, managing a work group larger than my old division...still pretty small! I'm up to 4 direct reports and a few indirect reports...also have my side biz starting to go .......so everything I was looking for professionally. I'm also finally at an income level where real wealth accumulation could be on the horizon.....
WOW!!! Color me impressed, that is freaking awesome!! I'm so happy for you! I'm sorry you're not happy with the new job but hopefully you will be able to accomplish your goals so much faster now. DD graduated last year, did a semester abroad. DS to graduate in December.
Ahh, time flies! That's so cool. DN has been talking about doing a semester abroad, I think it would be a great experience for her.

Firebird! Good to see you! Babybird is seven? Dang, put that kid to work already! It's it YMAM way, after all! I'm OK, though DH's health is deteriorating. I am planning to retire from full time employment in May, 2020. I will still work (freelance writing is going well enough that it will be a good supplement), and we have no outstanding bills, so we will be fine. I am still running, swimming, cycling and doing triathlons. Just did the local senior games today.

It was such a great growing opportunity, and DD loved it - although at times it was hard for her. If DN wants to go, I think it is really a fantastic experience for someone - it really isn't anything that can be recapture at a later time in life. So definitely could be a regret if passed up.

Stop it. That is ridiculous. You are AMAZING! Sorry about your DH, that has to be hard I'm glad to hear from you, though. I agree and honestly, this is probably her only shot (right now she is not planning on college). So I think it's really important to consider deeply. If she saved the money to cover at least half of her expenses, I'd be glad to kick in. I know how special it was for me to go to Europe in high school (once in my sophomore year and again right after I graduated). I would probably have jumped at the chance to live abroad.
