Wow the number of people that became Stars, Where you would think they have it made,, go off the deep end! Which brings up another one,, keeping up with Miley Cyrus.

I will watch anything Ken Burns does so yes I've watched all but episode 8 since I recorded it. I had a tough time getting thru the first three episodes since I did not like the "hillbilly" state of country. But stuck with it because this is the "history" of country music so was watching from that aspect.
I was a little disappointed that they didn't "interview" me about Hank Williams being buried!! I sat on a bluff/hill and watched them put him in the ground. Of course I didn't know the significance of who was being buried since didn't like hillbilly as a 10 yr old. And seeing folks buried in Oak Wood was a ho hum thing for me and friends. I grew up next to the cemetery and played hide and seek there at night.
But back to the subject. Learning the history and how things/artist/music, etc evolved has been a learning experience. I recommend it to anyone who loves to learn something new about any subject. But that's just me
ETA: I'm not a music snob!! I like everything from Brahms, Bach, to ZZ Top - just like some more than others but the history of any genre is interesting!!

DH and I are a bit behind, only midway through episode 4 now, but are enjoying it a lot. We have had a number of discussions over whether it's something about the country music business that makes the stars die young or if the lonesome sound of country music just attracts the sort of stars with troubles that make them die young. I love the little tidbits Ken Burns drops, like rolling through the names of supporting instrumentalists behind a big singer with no comment and then 30-40 minutes later or even the next episode is when one of them gets famous.

I am not a fan of Country and Western music either , the history is fascinating, The rock and roll crowd has nothing on them, when it comes to dying early!! I have always wondered why do so many fall off the wagon when it appears that they have it made?

I have. I don't really like country music, but it's been interesting. . I watched it mostly because I wanted some more insight into the history of this country - from a differnt POV. Also → while I am not very much into country music, I make an exception for Willie Nelson.

Some folks just cannot handle fame and all the 'benefits' and attention it brings.

I have been enjoying it very much. I love anything history related, the old photos intrigue me, along with all the stories.

Not a fan of the genre, but I really enjoyed the history of it. Really fascinating about how country and blues and jazz are all intertwined and how many country artists revere blues musicians and cite them as major influences.

I'm not a fan, either, but the series was fascinating all the same. The stories were very interesting.
It seemed to me that so many of the male stars had really horrible parents, especially dads. Either dads that left early on, or alcoholic, abusive dads. Johnny Cash, for instance.
And poor Hank Williams Jr, being forced by his horrible mom to tour around the country playing only his Dad's old songs, instead of just letting him find his own way, musically.
Maybe you need some deprivation and rejection to be a really great country singer.
