As usual Ed ignores any evidence that is incredibly damaging to his argument. He keeps trying to point out NY in this situation as nothing but lemmings following their democrat leaders. Failing to notice the link I posted to a snowstorm that required the Air Force and Army to be called out in the 1940s. Surely people were better prepared back then weren't we. Aren't we often told by backassward conservatives that if we could only return to the day so yore..... It really does get tiresome.

www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/12/30/union-workers-reportedly-staged-slowdown-new-york-city-battled-blizzard/Union Workers Reportedly Staged Slowdown as New York City Battled Blizzard Published December 30, 2010 | New York Post Sanitation Department bosses from New York City's snow-slammed outer boroughs ordered their drivers to snarl the blizzard cleanup to protest budget cuts -- a disastrous move that turned streets into a minefield for emergency-services vehicles, several sources and a city lawmaker tell the New York Post. "They sent a message to the rest of the city that these particular labor issues are more important," said City Councilman Dan Halloran, who said he was visited Wednesday by a group of guilt-ridden sanitation workers who confessed the plot. Halloran said he met with three plow workers from the Sanitation Department -- and two Department of Transportation supervisors who were on loan -- at his office after he was flooded with irate calls from constituents. The workers said the work slowdown was the result of growing hostility between Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the workers responsible for clearing the snow. In the last two years, the agency's workforce has been slashed by 400 trash haulers and supervisors -- down from 6,300 -- because of the city's budget crisis. And, effective Friday, 100 department supervisors are to be demoted and their salaries slashed as an added cost-saving move. Sources said budget cuts were also at the heart of poor planning for the blizzard last weekend. The Sanitation Department denied there was a concerted effort to slow snow removal. "There are no organized or wildcat actions being taken by the sanitation workers or the supervisors," said spokesman Matthew Lipani. Joseph Mannion, president of the union that represents agency supervisors, said talk of a slowdown "is hogwash." But he admitted there is "resentment out there" toward Bloomberg and his administration because of budget cuts. His counterpart at the rank-and-file's union, Harry Nespoli, has also denied there is a job action, though he admitted his guys are working lucrative 14-hour shifts. Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser said only: "We would hope this is not the case."

first off, there wasn't 30" in NYC. second, people didn't listen and drove, got stuck and abandoned their vehicles. buses were stuck too.(poor/no/lazy planning by over paid, incompetent, uncaring, crony, govt bureaucrats). and, IMHO, ed is on to something. people in "progressive", largly minority, govt intrusive areas do tend to lay down and expect big bro to do evertything. the "do as I say, not as I do", cause I'm better than you, smug, "independent" mr; bloomberg shouldn't have started patting himself on the back so early on during the storm.

"The workers said the work slowdown was the result of growing hostility between Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the workers responsible for clearing the snow"
No big deal...simple solution, in a time of emergency, which was now, the one department who public depends on in this type of emergency, not the police, the fire, plus by snarling traffic it stops those important folks from doing their job, those who gave out the orders..You dismiss them with cause. see you in court , and if the union wants to strike in sympathy..you let them go too, those who walk out, and rehire with plenty wanting those jobs. Problem solved. Reagan did it with Air Controllers ..Truman did it with Coal Miners ..
Different problem but possible this is what the new Governer of California should be thinking of doing after taking office next week.

Absolutely. New York City is all about "law and order", and totalitarian government interference, Orwellian public surveillance and draconian laws against personal freedoms. THAT is the very definition of the modern progressive/liberal ideology...
