Uncle Sam's Plantation: How Big Government Enslaves America's Poor and What We Can Do About It, Revised and Updated Edition by Star Parker (Paperback - Aug 17, 2010) www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?field-keywords=Uncle+Sams%27+Plantation&url=search-alias%3Daps It is no surprise that government attempts at social engineering have proven costly, counter-productive, and oftentimes disastrous. Look no further than the 1960's War on Poverty programs of the LBJ administration, which instead of "winning" the war on poverty, only served to exacerbate the plight of the poor, creating three generations of dependence, laziness, irresponsibility and psychological nihilism - a cycle that has only started to be undone with the Welfare Reform Act of 1996.
But don't take my word for it. Just ask Star Parker, president and founder of the Coalition of Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) and self-proclaimed "former welfare queen." Picking up where she left off in her blisteringly honest memoir Pimps, Whores and Welfare Brats (Pocket Star, 1997), Parker takes big government to task in Uncle Sam's Plantation: How Big Government Enslaves America's Poor and What We Can Do About It (WND Books). If there is anyone who knows first hand the degradation and moral bankruptcy that comes with perennial dependence on "Uncle Sam," it's Ms. Parker - she lived it.
The author lays out her own categorical definitions of poverty and recounts the hard lessons she learned as a welfare mother. In discussing how liberals have hijacked history and used the poor as pawns for political purposes, Parker describes the typical government safety net as simply a way of covering up the social pathologies associated with the bad choices of the underprivileged.
Arguably the most harmful effects of massive government intervention have been the breakdown of the family unit. This is especially true in the black community, where according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services roughly 70% of black children are born out of wedlock. According to Parker, radical feminism has helped to produce this horrible state of affairs. The author shows in surgical detail how buying into the radical feminist party line (i.e. that men are "the enemy," marriage is "prostitution and slavery in a different form," and "money is power") has not only contributed to high rates of illegitimacy and abortion in the black community, but has also rendered many black women "unpaid whores and old maids."
The last third of Uncle Sam's Plantation outlines the author's proposed solutions on weaning the poor off of government dependence and liberal mind control. From analyzing the wastefulness of our current tax system and the counter-productive economic effects of minimum wage and rent control laws, to outlining how Social Security can (and should) be privatized to benefit all those who pay into it, the author displays erudition far beyond the average layperson and an iron-clad compassion born out of the experience of a woman who has indeed "been there, done that."
Star Parker's life is a shining example that individual freedom and self-reliance are indeed possible for those who desire and are willing to work for it. A person's income does not determine his/her outcome, and those desiring a better outcome for their lives should heed this extraordinary woman's words of redemption and deliverance. She is a true inspiration, and this book is a great read.

The True Nature Of Politics
March 26, 2012
Politicians in America are employees of the state.
Politicians are employees of the state. What ¡s the mystery? Why are these people (with some few exceptions) so against the American people? Why do they consistently promote socialism? Why do they have no financial responsibility? Why do they always promote socialist agendas like Obamacare and the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act that do away with human and personal liberties that have existed since the Magna Carta was issued? Do not be deceived. Subversive elements can hollow out the soul of a nation without destroying its flag and national symbols, with very few people alert to what is happening. People, in their oblivion, think that they are still free if they don't see tanks rumbling down the streets, armed guards and barbed wire, and fortified buildings with barred doors and windows. Modern population control is not conventional warfare and military occupation. Modern warfare is psychological warfare. War has evolved into a form of false benevolence that masks tyranny in its most pernicious forms. It removes from the collective mind of the populace the thought that those being protected are, in fact, the target of the attack. The pretenses and propaganda are so real that all but a few are deceived about the modus operandi of the political establishment charade. The state-induced psychosis segments and divides strangers, families and friends against themselves and polarizes the collective population against a small, alert minority. This unbalanced situation can go on for years. Unbeknownst to the ruling elite, they continually self-destruct while their greed blinds them to reality that resistance is building sub-rosa. People can be oppressed (pacified) to the extreme with propaganda and social welfare until a critical tipping point or shock potential is reached. At that point, physical pain and privation become general awareness, and demonstrations and riots appear. This, too, can be suppressed with superior force for a time, but the same harsh armed suppression causes a greater portion of the populace to realize that government force is on one side and the citizenry on the other. This triggers a swell of capped rebellion to express itself and join the crowd. So what happens? The state, in its unbridled greed, self-destructs. When the thousands of greedy bureaucrats and paid politicians overplay their greed so that chicanery in government is widespread and widely visible, it sparks social and militant revolution between the state and an aroused people who have guns. This is now! Nothing can change this spontaneous process. It might blow hot and cold with twists and turns in the propaganda and a few million more food stamps. But the end is in sight and the crowds of people are beginning to see reality: A change of regime is at hand. The old entrenched crowd must go, and some must be tried for treason. The hangman must be hanged! Now, my friends, what do you imagine has delayed and postponed the liberation of the people from a greedy and despotic government? The answer is that there are two kinds of people in the world, and always have been, and never the twain shall be one. On one side is the great mass of basically honest people, then there is government. All governments by nature attract greedy and parasitic people. In short, these are people who have the born mentality to live off of other people. Politics and government are perfectly made for them. Keep in mind, there are a few exceptions. These (shall I call them humanoids?) have unusual qualities and attributes of personality that present them as benevolent, caring and concerned people with absolutely no hint that they wear masks that hide them as charlatans and greedy monsters. Under the masks they are Satanists devouring whom they will. Greed and aggrandizement are their silent forte. Many of them belong to secret societies that historically have been at the center of subversive movements. Boy, this is mum! We will call these people humanoids because they are deviants and devious. They have no conscience and no moral scruples. They are no respecter of persons except a feigned glow to extract something. Their every thought is how to make the world flow to themselves. They would rip off their own parents or mate. ¡°Selfish¡± is a kind word we can use to describe them. What shall we call those people besides humanoids? By definition they are psychopaths. A more gentle term is sociopaths. A caveat here is that most psychopaths don't know that they are psychopaths. This makes them even more aggressive and sinister. They can kill people en masse for aggrandizement and greed. They hate wealth if it is not theirs. Sound familiar? Another caveat: There are many rich and wealthy people who are not psychopaths. Government is something for nothing as exemplified in the fiat monetary system. Something for nothing attracts greed and parasites. For sociopaths, government appears to offer something for nothing ¡ª an easy life and easy riches. Sociopathic politicians and bureaucrats are usually intelligent and articulate. They know how to articulate and to harness the power of speech. They quickly learn control words as expressed here, and they repeat the themes of the elite and the party line. They are cold and calculating, and their every intent is to stay in office and stay in government. Almost no politician will advocate a gold-backed currency. They won't even mention it because gold is an economic straight jacket for Big Government and its politicians. No politician will mention limiting House and Senate terms of office. No politician will advocate a bill to eliminate the privileges of office like their special healthcare and retirement benefits. Government is a privileged and plush existence for bureaucrats and politicians. Politicians are afraid not to beat the drums for war because war is the agenda of the warfare-welfare state. They will support and mimic any war propaganda. Sociopaths/psychopaths will sell to the highest bidder as Judas sold out Jesus Christ for 30 pieces of silver. Political sociopaths collectively cannot imagine themselves suffering the same punishment, misery and impoverishment that they have vented upon the American people. They have no conscience and they cannot discern that they are destroyers of law and order and that indeed they are destroying the system. So you will know, in closing, we profile the sociopath: They have glibness and superficial charm. They are manipulative and cunning. Under their feigned charm, they are covertly hostile and domineering. They have a grandiose sense of self. They are a pathological liar. They have no remorse, shame or guilt. They have shallow emotions. They have incapacity for love. They are not concerned about how many lives they wreck. They usually have promiscuous sexual behaviors. They have a poor work ethic but are masters of exploiting others. They have versatility and will change their image quickly to avoid prosecution. They are contemptuous of anyone who understands them, like this writer. They think only of their own immediate gratification. Politicians in America are employees of the state. This must be understood! Until this is understood, we have no hope.GOD BLESS AMERICA ...

CAN'T FIND THE THREAD ON THE BOARD FOR GREECE SO WILL PARK IT HERE FOR NOW!
Rebellion Spreads ... EU Elites Have Miscalculated?
Thursday, April 05, 2012 – by Staff Report
For those who missed the story, a 77-year old retired pharmacist – Dimitris Christoulas – has shot himself to death in front of the Greek Parliament in Syntagma Square, protesting the degradation of his country. It is a call to arms, a poignant moment in Europe's unfolding drama, reminiscent of the Buddhist self-immolations of south-east Asia that so captured world attention. His suicide note refers to the Quisling regime of George Tsolakoglou under Axis occupation in World War Two. We have entered perilous waters in Europe. Greece is not an isolated case. Variants of the Greek tragedy are unfolding in a string of countries as they embark on similar policies of self-feeding contraction, as will become clear over the next two years. Spain's youth unemployment is already 50.5pc. – UK Telegraph www.thedailybell.com/3764/Rebellion-Spreads-EU-Elites-Have-Miscalculated

Hey Ty, this is Cool I'd move there if it were in Idaho or Montana. One wouldn't need a golf course .. just pick out a tree and have a shot, then putt into a gopher hole. My golf season is going to start late this year, if at all, due to an unanticipated problem with my crushed wrist.
Prayers and hugs to you'll.

Wyoming town - population 1 - sells for $900,000 to Vietnamese buyer
SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) - The town of Buford, Wyoming - population 1 - was sold for $900,000 to an unidentified buyer from Vietnam on Thursday after an 11-minute Internet auction that attracted worldwide interest.
The tiny Western town garnered online viewers and bidders from 46 countries for the sale of 10-plus acres with a convenience store, gas station and modular home located in southeastern Wyoming between Cheyenne and Laramie.
The buyer, who wished to remain anonymous, flew to Wyoming from Vietnam for a purchase he likened to "the American dream," according to a statement released by Williams & Williams, the Oklahoma auction house handling the sale.
"Owning a piece of property in the U.S. has been my dream," the buyer said in the statement.
Don Sammons, long the town's sole resident, moved with his wife, Terry, from Los Angeles to the Buford area in 1980. In 1992, six years after his wife died, Sammons purchased the town.
Sammons decided to auction off the Interstate 80 hamlet, billed as "the nation's smallest town" and named after Civil War Union Army General John Buford, to move to Colorado to be near his adult son.
"My family is gone. Our purpose for moving here has kind of been completed, and now I want to find out what other adventures I have in store," Sammons, 61, told Reuters in an interview.
Speaking before the sale, which was broadcast online, an executive with Williams & Williams said the firm had never seen the level of buzz that attended the Buford auction.
"Auctions always bring a lot of attention, but even we were amazed at the amount of attention to Buford worldwide," said Amy Bates, chief marketing officer for Williams & Williams. "It's the Wild West in the U.S. It's owning your town and getting away from it all."
The high-elevation town sprang to life in the 1860s as a military outpost amid construction of the transcontinental railroad.
Buford's population dwindled when the fort moved to Laramie and the county seat was shifted from Buford to Cheyenne. For some decades, Buford remained a central point for outlying ranches.
The settlement is one of two tiny Western towns recently put up for sale by owners whose spouses have died and whose grown children live elsewhere.
Pray, Montana, population 8, has been placed on the market for $1.4 million by owner Barbara Walker, 52. The town had been in the family of her late husband since 1953.
The 5-acre town sits in the Paradise Valley near Yellowstone National Park, a scenic, mountainous area home to celebrities like Jeff Bridges.

Inside Islam: What a Billion Muslims Really Thinkwww.snagfilms.com/films/title/inside_islam_what_a_billion_muslims_really_thinkInside Islam: What a Billion Muslims Really Think Synopsis Inside Islam: What a Billion Muslims Really Think, a new documentary film from Unity Productions Foundation, explores the expertly gathered opinions of Muslims around the globe as revealed in the world's first major opinion poll, conducted by Gallup, the preeminent polling organization.
Gallup researchers began by asking the questions on every American's mind. Why is there so much anti-Americanism in the Muslim world? Who are the extremists and how do Muslims feel about them? What do Muslims like and dislike about the West? What do Muslim women really want?
Crucial policy decisions hang on these questions. They continue to generate passionate disagreements in the public square. Yet for all the heat and controversy, the actual views of the world's Muslims have been conspicuously missing from this debate.
Now, we have the missing answers and statistics, gathered, parsed, and analyzed not by pundits but by professional researchers.
As part of this groundbreaking six-year project, Gallup conducted tens of thousands of interviews with residents in 35 predominantly Muslim nations, as well as smaller populations in Europe and the USA. The broad extent of the polling has delivered findings for the world's 1.4 billion Muslims with a plus or minus accuracy of 3%
Focused on the issues of Gender Justice, Terrorism, and Democracy -the film presents this remarkable data deftly, showing how it challenges the popular notion that Muslims and the West are on a collision course. Like the research, the film highlights a shared relationship that is based on facts - not fear.
Experts featured (A Partial List): Dalia Mogahed, Executive Director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, John Esposito, University Professor, Georgetown University, RamiKhoury, Editor of the Daily Star (Beirut), and Kenneth Pollack, Director of Research, Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institute.

OF COURSE THIS DOES NOT AFFECT THOSE IN WASHINGTON, NOR THE MUSLIMS, NOR UNION MEMBERS.
SCARY STUFF.
If you are so angry about the idiots running our government, you don't plan to vote, read this. Most Americans have no idea what is going on, unless they are on the net. The main stream media is so biased it is criminal.
Forget about getting to age 75, this exact thing happened to me this morning at Danbury hospital here in Ct. I was scheduled for a cardio-lite stress test. This is a tread mill stress test where during the process they inject nuclear dye into your blood stream and then put you in a CAT scan or something similar and take a picture of your heart. If all is good the heart shows up red, if there are blocked arteries anywhere that portion of the heart shows up pink. I have had three of these tests in the past twelve years due to blocked arteries discovered in 2000. They use the test to determine if I need a roto router or a bypass operation.
So I arrive at the hospital at 8 am this morning and I am in the process of checking in at Cardiology and the lady says that my appointment has been canceled. She makes a call and speaks with someone and hands me the phone. It is a nurse in cardiology who says that my medical coverage denied the procedure. I said it was routine, part of my heart maintenance process and ordered by my PCP and with approval from my Cardiologist who is the head of Danbury Cardiology which is right where I was standing. She goes, "yes but we were denied our request". So I say, I have Medicare so what is my backup insurance doing denying anything. Then the bombshell, she says it was the Medicare board that denied the procedure.
At that point, I turn to everyone behind me, and it was a long line, and I say to them "well you won't have to wait too long today because my stress test procedure was just canceled by a Medicare Death Panel. I am only 67 so can you imagine what is going to happen when we really get old". The entire waiting room and everyone there from patients to staff just went dead silent. So I turn to the front desk and tell them, " I guess I will have to write a letter to the editor of the Danbury News Times and call my Senators and Congressman and let them know the Death Panels have already convened". Then I walked out.
By the time I got home the message machine was blinking. My PCP had already called and so did the hospital and guess what, Medicare decided to approve my stress test procedure and if I could get back down to the hospital they would fit me in right now for this 3 hour procedure. I told them I couldn't make it, that I was going fishing because I didn't know how many more fishing trips I could get in before I went into cardiac arrest but not to worry about me costing the government any money because I am a 30% disabled Army veteran, due to Agent Orange poisoning which is what caused this heart problem to begin with, and I qualify to be buried for free in a plain pine wrapper in the cheap graves section at any National Cemetary. I certainly don't want to cost our government any money so maybe we just won't do this procedure anymore and we can use the money to redistribute it to all of the illegals to keep them alive so they can mow the lawns at the National Cemetarys. "Oh, yes. We are seeing cutbacks throughout the services we provide. For example, we are now having to deal with patients who would normally receive dialysis can no longer be accepted. In the past, there was always automatic approval under Medicare for anyone who needed dialysis -- not anymore." So, what will be their outcome? "They will die soon without dialysis," she stated.
What about other services? She indicated as of 2013 (after the election), no one over 75 will be given major medical procedures unless approved by locally administered _Ethics_ _Panels_. These Panels will determine whether a patient receives medical treatment or not. While details on specific operating procedures and schedules, Dr. Allen points out that most life-threatening emergencies do not occur during normal hospital business hours, and if there are emergencies that depend to be resolve within minutes or just few hours, the likelyhood of getting these Panels approval in time to save a life are going to be very challenging and difficult, _if_ _not_ _impossible _she said.
This applies to major operations such as receiving stents, bypass surgery, kidney operations, or treating for an aneurysm that would be normally covered under Medicare today. In other words, if you needed a life-saving operation, Medicare will not provide coverage anymore after 2013 if you are 75 or over. When in 2013? "We haven't been given a specific date -- could be in January or July....but it's _after_ the election."
This is shocking to any of us who will be 75 this year. Her advice -- get healthy and stay healthy. We do not know the specifics of the actual implementation of the full Obama Care policies and procedures -- "they haven't filtered down to the local level yet. But we are already seeing severe cuts in what we provide to the elderly -- we refused dialysis to an individual who was 78 just the other day....we refused to give stents to a gentleman who was in his late 80s." Every day, she said, we are seeing these cutbacks aimed at reducing care across the board for anyone who is over 75.
We can only hope that Obama Care will be overturned by the Supreme Court -- otherwise, this is a _death_ _sentence_ to those who are over 75....perhaps you should pass this on to your friends who are thinking of voting for Obama this year.
Regardless if you have private health care coverage now (I have Aetna Medicare Part B) -- it will no longer apply after 2013 if the _Ethics_ _Panels_ disapprove of a procedure that may save your life.*
*Scary, scary, scary. Think about this? You? Your parents? Your loved ones?
Didn't know about it? Of course, not. As Nancy Pelosi said...."well, if you want to know what's in the bill, you'll have to read it....." _After_ it was passed.
This is a graphic reminder of the need to stay healthy. Get your plot now at Forest Lawn....while they last. Is this a death sentence to those of us who will reach 75?.....Yes!*
* Now is a good time to click on your <Forward> button.

HSBC allowed money laundering, Senate says
July 16, 2012|Wallace Witkowski, MarketWatch
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — HSBC Holdings PLC allowed drug traffickers, terrorists and rogue states to launder several billions of dollars because of poor controls, the Senate Subcommittee on Investigations said in a statement late Monday.
The committee plans to hold a hearing on the report Tuesday morning, including testimony from HSBC officials and federal regulators, some of whom were also criticized in the report for failing to address the problem successfully.
“Foreign HSBC banks actively circumvented U.S. safeguards ... designed to block transactions involving terrorists, drug lords, and rogue regimes,” the subcommittee said.
Among the charges, HSBC serviced high-risk customers in drug-trafficking countries with weak anti-laundering measures; allowed $19.4 billion in transactions linked to Iran to go through their affiliates over a seven-year period; and provided services to certain banks in Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh despite their ties to terrorist financing, the subcommittee’s statement said.
Other issues cited included allegedly clearing “$290 million in obviously suspicious U.S. travelers checks for a Japanese bank, benefiting Russians who claimed to be in the used-car business,” and offering accounts to bearer-share corporations, “despite the high risk of money laundering and illicit conduct.”
“HSBC’s compliance culture has been pervasively polluted for a long time,” subcommittee chairman Sen. Carl Levin said in the statement. “Its recent change in leadership says it’s committed to cleaning house. That commitment is welcome surely, but it will take more than words for the bank to change course.”
In a statement dated Monday, HSBC admitted that its money-laundering controls “could and should have been strong” and promised to address the issue.
“In the past, we have sometimes failed to meet the standards that regulators and customers expect,” the bank said. “We will apologize, acknowledge these mistakes, answer for our actions and give our absolute commitment to fixing what went wrong.”
HSBC said that the steps it plans to take include a doubling of spending on compliance and adopting a single global standard for guarding against such problems.
American Depositary Shares of HSBC (US:HBC) (HK:5) (UK:HSBA) fell 2.4% in after-hours trade Monday, after having closed the regular session down 0.3% ahead of the Senate statement. OCC slammed The subcommittee’s report, the result of a one-year investigation, also strongly criticized the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which cited HSBC in 2010 for deficiencies in its anti-money-laundering safeguards.
“Subcommittee investigators found that the OCC had failed to take a single enforcement action against the bank, formal or informal, over the previous six years, despite ample evidence of ... problems,” the statement said.

Nine int'l companies submit final bids for National ID card project
KATHMANDU - Nepal
KATHMANDU, July 14. 2013: A total of nine international companies have submitted their final bids for the multi-million dollar national ID card project of the home ministry.
Three French companies, two Chinese, two German and one company each from Malaysia and Finland have submitted final bids as the extended deadline to submit the tender document expired on Sunday. Officials said an evaluation committee comprising experts formed earlier by the home ministry will now evaluate the bid documents before taking a final decision on awarding the contract for the project.
According to home ministry, the companies submitting the final bids include Aisino Corporation (China), Gemalto Oy (Finland), Consotrium of Thales Communications and Security (France), Budes Druckerei (Germany), Giesecke & Devrient GmbH (Germany), Safran Morpho (France), Oberthur Technologies SA (France), Anhui Communications Services Co Ltd (China) and IRIS Corporation Berhad (Malaysia).
Earlier on June 27, MoHA had decided to extend tender submission deadline of the national ID cards project for 15 days after the previous 15-day extension expired. Officials said the decision to extend the tender submission deadline was taken with a view to making the bidding process more competitive. Altogether 50 international bidders had purchased tender forms for the national ID card project over the period.
The National ID Management Center (NIDMC) under MoHA had first announced global tender on April 29 with a 45-day deadline. The deadline was later extended for 15 days to ensure participation of more firms in the multimillion-dollar project.
The government´s multi-million dollar project to distribute biometric national ID cards courted controversy after nearly a dozen aspiring international bidders lodged complaints that the tender specifications were manipulated to suit the interests of one specific company.
Though NIDMC suspended a technical official involved in the manipulation of the specifications and also made amendments to some of the specifications made in the original tender invitation, there are still concerns that the amendments have made the database management system and biometrics, also known as Automated Fingerprint Identification System, vulnerable.

Floating dead pigs resurface in China rivers
www.scmp.com/sites/default/files/styles/486x302/public/2013/08/05/232.jpg?itok=-JBdnAKQ
Workers move dead pigs at a bio-safety disposal in the Zhonglian village of the Jinshan district in Shanghai. The nightmare of dead-pig dumping in waterways near Shanghai has returned to haunt China's river inhabitants, despite government vows to crack down on the practice. In the months since authorities fished out more than 10,000 dead pigs from Huangpu River and its tributaries in March, farmers still appear to be disposing of the carcasses the same way. Internet searches for "dead pig" and "river" have resulted in media reports of similar incidents every month since the first stories made international headlines, sparked public outcry and prompted water safety concerns."Over 70 dead swine salvaged from Hunan Liuyang river", the headlines say."Dozens of dead pigs floating in Chengdu — odours overwhelm passersby”
"Ten rotten pigs in Hebei may have been dumped by vendors"
The latest story came on Saturday, when photos were published by China International Broadcasting Network showing dozens of rotten pig carcasses floating in waterways in central China's Wuhan province.
Government officials and media blamed pig farmers and sellers for dumping the carcasses in the rivers because it costs much less than burying or incinerating them.
But some experts have attributed the dumping practice to rigorous crackdowns on black-market pork dealings earlier this year. Authorities have clamped down on peddlers who buy dead pigs and sell them illicitly.
The government has also sought to dispel public concerns about the pollution of the rivers, often the source of drinking water for cities.
An agricultural expert compared the plight to “a few flies in a swimming pool”, reported the Beijing News. “Disgusting? Maybe. But how much of an impact will it really inflict on the water quality?” he said.
Some local residents, however, have found an unexpected fortune in salvaging dead pigs from rivers. Villagers in Jiaxing who used to earn 30 yuan a day fishing, now make as much as 150 yuan (HK$190) a day picking carcasses from the water.

Scientists to cook world's first in-vitro beef burger Last Updated At: 2013-08-03 1:20 PM
LONDON: A corner of west London will see culinary and scientific history made on Monday when scientists cook and serve up the world's first lab-grown beef burger.
The in-vitro burger, cultured from cattle stem cells, the first example of what its creator says could provide an answer to global food shortages and help combat climate change, will be fried in a pan and tasted by two volunteers.
The burger is the result of years of research by Dutch scientist Mark Post, a vascular biologist at the University of Maastricht, who is working to show how meat grown in petri dishes might one day be a true alternative to meat from livestock.
The meat in the burger has been made by knitting together around 20,000 strands of protein that has been cultured from cattle stem cells in Post's lab.
The tissue is grown by placing the cells in a ring, like a donut, around a hub of nutrient gel, Post explained.
To prepare the burger, scientists combined the cultured beef with other ingredients normally used in burgers, such as salt, breadcrumbs and egg powder. Red beet juice and saffron have been added to bring out its natural colors.
"Our burger is made from muscle cells taken from a cow. We haven't altered them in any way," Post said in a statement on Friday. "For it to succeed it has to look, feel and hopefully taste like the real thing."
VIABLE ALTERNATIVE?
Success, in Post's view, would mean not just a tasty burger, but also the prospect of finding a sustainable, ethical and environmentally friendly alternative to meat production.
According to a 2006 report by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), industrialized agriculture contributes on a "massive scale" to climate change, air pollution, land degradation, energy use, deforestation and biodiversity decline.
The report, entitled Livestock's Long Shadow, said the meat industry contributes about 18 percent of global greenhouse-gas emissions and this proportion is expected to grow as consumers in fast-developing countries such as China and India eat more meat.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), annual meat production is projected to rise to 376 million metric tons by 2030 from 218 million metric tons in 1997-1999, and demand from a growing world population is expected to rise beyond that.
Post cites FAO figures suggesting demand for meat is expected to increase by more than two-thirds by 2050.
Animal welfare campaigners applauded the arrival of cultured meat and predicted a great future for it.
"In vitro technology will spell the end of lorries full of cows and chickens, abattoirs and factory farming," the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) campaign group said in a statement. "It will reduce carbon emissions, conserve water and make the food supply safer."
A study published in 2011 comparing the relative environmental impacts of various types of meat, including lamb, pork, beef and cultured meat, said the lab-grown product has by far the least impact on the environment.
Hanna Tuomisto, who conducted the study at Oxford University's Wildlife Conservation Research Unit, found that growing meats in-vitro would use 35 percent to 60 percent less energy, emit 80 percent to 95 percent less greenhouse gas and use around 98 percent less land than conventionally produced animal meat.
While Monday's fry-up will be a world first and only an initial proof-of concept, the Dutch scientist reckons commercial production of cultured beef could begin within the next 20 years.
"What we are going to attempt is important because I hope it will show cultured beef has the answers to major problems that the world faces," he added.

A2-B-C: A Documentary Film by Ian Thomas Ash
North American Premiere at the Rhode Island International Film Festival
12:15pm Saturday August 10, Providence, RI
Fairewinds has done a lot of work about the ongoing crisis in Japan after the Fukushima Daiichi disaster, and we wanted to bring your attention to an important documentary premiering in North America this weekend. The film is called A2-B-C, and it focuses on the health effects many children in Fukushima are experiencing in the aftermath of the radiation exposures from the March 2011 triple meltdown. Life in Fukushima Prefecture means radiation hot spots in school yards; pre-cancerous thyroid cysts; radiation detectors on backpacks; government officials and even doctors who don’t seem to care. The reality of daily life in Fukushima Prefecture is a parent’s worst nightmare.
With another nuclear accident statistically likely to happen within the next eight years, we need to know what’s at stake when the nuclear industry cuts corners, regulators protect profits over people, and governments refuse to admit mistakes were made and help is needed. This film focusses on the consequences of one bad day in the lifespan of a nuclear power plant. This is the mess that nobody is taking responsibility for. These are the human casualties of Fukushima Daiichi.
A2-B-C is premiering in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday August 10th at 12:15 at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. For more information about attending this screening, please visit this website. For more information about the filmmaker, you can visit Ian Thomas Ash’s website.

Beethoven Moonlight Sonata (Sonata al chiaro di luna)
"I listen to this movement every single day, There are those of us who do understand and appreciate the grace and purity of classical music, the ability to pore out ones heart and soul without a single word, and get the feeling across better then any language."

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him, better take a closer look at the American Indian."
