maybe, maybe not.
The fire dept says to go home and check on it. I'm at work. They won't check it because it's trespassing.

If there is a fire, it is not trespassing. Of course, with your permission, it would not be trespassing.

If the building burns down or people get hurt it is my responsibility. I get that.
Fire prevention.

We make entry with the police present. Still need the homeowner to show up for liability reasons. do you have a neighbor that can check?

Jake, I forgot the bs about police presence. Whenever forcible entry is needed. Or to take someone into protective custody so they can be treated.

Arch, once we see flames, the FD can act. For the duration of the fire, they become the owners.

What if the door is open? will they still break it down? back in the hood our neighbors across the hall (all women) youngest daughter cooked breakfast. Burned it. scared the rest of them in the apartment. fire department came in and put out the fire (i guess) and torn out the entire Wall behind the stove!! said they were looking to make sure there were no Sparks back there.

Subrogation - The right of an insurer who has taken over another's loss also to take over the other person's right to pursue remedies against a third party.
If FD is over zealous, the insurance companies will go after them for damages. You would be surprised at how easy it is to get into someones house for a non emergency, no damage done. We have the PD on site for liability. If your experience with the FD has been a wrecking crew then you have a poorly trained, unprofessional dept.

Oven was off.
I have ALL major kitchen appliances off. I'll microwave sometimes and have not used a stove or cooktop in over 10 years. [Small kitchen appliances=rice cooker, Geo foreman grill, slow cooker, electric skillet] [ vegetables(spinach, asparagus, parsley, basil), bought broasted chicken, frozen cooked shrimp, gently microwave Salmon, egg whites]
I'm prone to forget to turn my laptop off which is often left on a burnable surface.

A fireman gave me one of his extra fireman's coats. And when I wore it to work one of my male co-workers said 'Hey! Deb, Where's the fire?' I answered 'It's under this coat. Ya' gotta hose long enough to put it out?'

I'm still waiting for the rest of the story. Was there a fire at Deb's place or next door? What prompted the fire department to call and ask if the oven was on?

I leave my computer on and then I'm worried about a fire starting as I'm on my way to work. Other people probably have the same concerns with their stoves.
