Hmmmmm. Mexico Agreed to Take Border Actions Months Before Trump Announced Tariff DealWASHINGTON — The deal to avert tariffs that President Trump announced with great fanfare on Friday night consists largely of actions that Mexico had already promised to take in prior discussions with the United States over the past several months, according to officials from both countries who are familiar with the negotiations. Friday’s joint declaration says Mexico agreed to the “deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border.” But the Mexican government had already pledged to do that in March during secret talks in Miami between Kirstjen Nielsen, then the secretary of homeland security, and Olga Sanchez, the Mexican secretary of the interior, the officials said. The centerpiece of Mr. Trump’s deal was an expansion of a program to allow asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico while their legal cases proceed. But that arrangement was first reached in December in a pair of painstakingly negotiated diplomatic notes that the two countries exchanged. Ms. Nielsen announced the Migrant Protection Protocols during a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee five days before Christmas. It was unclear whether Mr. Trump believed that the agreement truly represented new and broader concessions, or whether the president understood the limits of the deal but accepted it as a face-saving way to escape from the political and economic consequences of imposing tariffs on Mexico, which he began threatening less than two weeks ago. Full story here: Mexico Agreed to Take Border Actions Months Before Trump Announced Tariff DealThe latter (face-saving way).

Beto O'Rourke has pointed out that Trump does this a lot - he fabricates a crisis and then swoops in to solve the fake crisis with great fanfare, insisting only someone as great as him could have made such a fabulous deal, when really, there was no crisis and he didn't really do anything.
Smoke and mirrors for the Trumpettes.

there's 2 extra steps in there.
1. fabricate a crisis 2. play up/on fears about the crisis to intensify it 3. swoop in to "fix" it with great fanfare 4. Complain that he isn't being thanked/given enough credit for fixing it therefore becoming the "real victim" of the fabricated crisis
(credit for this goes to a tweet that I cannot find anymore. It was actually much funnier using burning down his own house as the crisis)

If I had to guess, I’d bet for many in his circle there are also sell stock and buy stock steps in that cycle...

And also sometimes the 'flip flop to a 180 degree position from his previous position' step, which sometimes includes the sub-step of 'denying his initial position even though there is video documenting the words coming out of his pie hole' step.

Why can't his supporters see it when it's this obvious & a very well established pattern?

Why can't his supporters see it when it's this obvious & a very well established pattern? Some of them don't know because they only watch conservative media.
Some of them see the pattern but like with the Emperor's new clothes, they've invested too much in believing Trump is magnificent to admit they were wrong now.
And some of them don't really follow politics but they liked Trump when he was on the Apprentice and he seems like smart guy, so whatever.

Another false report in the Failing @nytimes. We have been trying to get some of these Border Actions for a long time, as have other administrations, but were not able to get them, or get them in full, until our signed agreement with Mexico. Additionally, and for many years,....
.....Mexico was not being cooperative on the Border in things we had, or didn’t have, and now I have full confidence, especially after speaking to their President yesterday, that they will be very cooperative and want to get the job properly done. Importantly, some things.....
.....not mentioned in yesterday press release, one in particular, were agreed upon. That will be announced at the appropriate time. There is now going to be great cooperation between Mexico & the USA,
something that didn’t exist for decades. However, if for some unknown reason...
....there is not, we can always go back to our previous, very profitable, position of Tariffs - But I don’t believe that will be necessary. The Failing @nytimes, & ratings challenged @cnn, will do anything possible to see our Country fail! They are truly The Enemy of the People!
Hi gang! How've you been?
Additionally, the Mexican government has denied press reports that this is an "old" deal and affirms that this is a new deal which is the direct result of President's tariff threat.

Who am I to believe: the Mexican foreign minister or the perpetual liar in the White House? In this case, I believe the Mexican foreign minister.

Who am I to believe: the Mexican foreign minister or the perpetual liar in the White House? In this case, I believe the Mexican foreign minister. The tall tale about the 'fabulous deal' he negotiated with Mexico is so clearly fluffed up nonsense he's now having to pretend there is something more substantial behind door number 3, but it's so secret, so extra special and wonderful, he's got to keep it a super secret, until it can be revealed in all it's glory to the astonished world.
Or, he has to wait until his base forgets about this promise and moves to the next sparkly object he dangles in front of them, at which point he'll quietly drop any conversation about Mexican tariffs and will deny this ever happened.

You mean like his big threat to close the southern border?
