As a Texan, I'm not surprised. I never really thought much about different Southern accents until we moved to Georgia. To be honest, I didn't even realize I had an accent much less a hard Texan accent until we moved here. Hubby & I both still get confused looks from people in Georgia followed by "you aren't from here are you?". Sometimes I think it's more of the phrasing tho than the accents.

One of my favorite examples of a Boston accent is Matt Damon when he's turning down a job in Good Will Hunting.

I grew up in western Massachusetts where we really had no accent. Years later, I found myself on a bus in Florida sitting next to some cowboy from Texas with a heavy Texan accent. We conversed. The cowboy suddenly said to me in his Texan drawl, "You talk just like they do on TV."

I saw someone post what someone put on twitter:
Someone tweeted the article with:
2. Boston
And then someone replied to the tweet with:
1. Everyone else

I was told that too when I moved here in '96. "Slow down" they said.

I am just not a country girl, at all. I do not find the Texan accent sexy. I actually don't find any southern accents sexy.
When I moved to Italy, many of my Italian friends were surprised I was an American. Apparently, they thought all Americans have a southern accent. They were also surprised that I very rarely use slang when I talk.

I was told that too when I moved here in '96. "Slow down" they said. They tell me that all the time. Depending on whether I get irritated or not, my reactions vary greatly. If I am not irritated I just rty to slow down. If they tick me off I give them the stink eye and tell them "this is me talking slowly. I speak much faster in Dutch".
That statement is true btw, but only pulled out for irritating people who don't pay attention and want everything pre-chewed for them. They want you to talk slooooooooowwwwlllyyy so they don't have to think.
