Thursday, May 2, 2019, felt like the end of checks and balances in America. It was the day that the Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee stood by and supported the executive branch’s decision to ignore a lawful subpoenaissued by the legislative branch. At this moment in time, we no longer really have co-equal branches of government. And without this system, created with care by the Founding Fathers, we edge ever close to a dictatorship. Trump's subpoena obstruction has fractured the Constitution's system of checks and balances But "the economy"

I am hoping that this travesty of a presidency will force our whole system to really examine how our system has been broken for a while. We need to clamp down on the creep of power by the office of the white house that has gotten very bad over the past 20 years. I am afraid it will be a generation until we can secure voting rights, but I am hoping we can turn back some of the inexcusable gerrymandering practices, as well as restore faith in Congress with less adversarial relationships. Unfortunately, nothing will be truly solved until Citizens United is overturned, and that will take decades. I doubt it will be in my lifetime.

Hmmmm, didn't Obama use executive privilege to cover the extreme abuses of Fast and Furious investigation?? Was Eric Holder found to be in contempt of Congress?

Yes. We have been moving in the wrong direction for awhile.

Can anywhere share what the “extreme abuses were”? I was out of the loop on all that and AS didn’t provide a link.

This scandal is paralleling Watergate is so many ways, except for one big glaring one - the GOP during Nixon's time still supported the constitution and the law of the land. It was willing to step up and remove a GOP president when he exceeded his authority.
The current GOP has abandoned our national principals in order to cling to power, but it can't last much longer. Whether Trump gets voted out of office in 2020 or has a cheeseburger and KFC induced heart attack and dies while watching Shark Week with his current playboy model GF, Trump will be gone soon, and there will be a shit ton of GOPers trying to duct tape their party back together again. A good number of the WH staffers have killed their careers carrying water for this ungrateful POTUS.
