playspent.org/Saw an article about this on MSN. It's a pretty interesting game about poor people making choices about money.

I made it on the first try when I didn't try to pay the bills, lost on the 2nd when I did. Failed the typing test 3 times which is weird, because I then went to typingtest.com because I thought I was going crazy and yes, I can still type between 50-60wpm, so I don't know what's up with that.

I think it is unrealistic. In my month I had a car accident, a toothache, chest pains, a rent increase all in one month. Also, the grocery prices were insane. $3.00 for spaghetti? I can get that free after coupons, same with the $1.00 hot dogs. Pasta sauce regularly goes on sale for $1.00 (although it tastes like crap). I can make my own vegetarian pasta sauce for $1.00 as well. Milk is more like $2.50 and can be bought at places like CVS, where you can pay with your rewards dollars (making it free). A low income person is likely to utilize food banks as well, where they can stretch those food dollars further. And the rent was too high. If I were in an area where rent was that high, I'd pack up my belongings into my car and move somewhere that the rent was lower. Around here, a two bedroom can be found for as little as $395, utilities included. It isn't in the best area, but it is a place to live, and even the "bad" areas here aren't all that rough.

Yea, a lot of the choices were what I considered to be more moral decisions, which are things we already argue about on the board.
The car accident was for $550 of property damage, my kid was in the car with me when I hit a parked car--do I pay the bill or flee the scene.
There were others too--I went to the school play instead of helping the neighbor move for $50. But was I was offered a "free" concert with friends I turned that down to avoid the babysitting fees.
I contested the $250 speeding ticket, which cost me a day of work--but I figured the ticket was higher than the day's pay.

I just did. I had $138.00 left but rent ($800) was due the next day. Passed the typing test first try. Got a temp job for $9.00 an hour. Temping, I made more than $9.00 in the late 80's. I gave back the $10.00 someone dropped, put plastic on the window, went to the play, asked to bum a ride from one of my friends since my car broke down -- waiting to see replies on FB, since that's where it takes you too. Interesting exercise. I only bought milk, cheese, eggs, fish sticks and fruit. I was getting food stamps the following week!!!

Interesting. I couldn't pass the typing test. On the first round, I was out of money early on. Round 2, made it to the end of the month but only had $10 left. Round 3, made it to the end of the month with $450.
